    Love Dokes, drugs ruined him.

This fight is a reminder of why the 7 1/2 year reign of Larry Holmes was underrated. For the most part, Joe Louis' Bum of the Month Club was a legitimate list of bums whereas a good portion of Holmes' 20 title defenses were against decent to very good fighters. For example, in successive title defenses, Holmes defeated Ocasio, future heavyweight champion Mike Weaver, and Number 1 contender Earnie Shavers who may have been the hardest puncher who ever lived. It's important to note that Ocasio went on to become the Cruiserweight Champion of the World.

      Amen. Perfectly stated.

Joe Louis fought the best of his day. Prime Ezzard Charles & Jersey Joe Walcott, Braddock, Max Baer, Billy Conn, Max Schleming, John Henry Lewis, Tommy Farr etc . In Louis' day, it was common for fighter's to fight 5 times a month.

I DO agree that Holmes’s list of opponents during his reign is underrated. However, the latter part of his reign was spent largely defending against younger or less experienced or deserving challengers (Scott Frank, Marvis Frazier, Bonecrusher Smith, and David Bey). He had struggled with at least two of the young guys (Witherspoon and Carl Williams). However, Holmes seemed to find ways to NOT fight the tougher contenders in the heavyweight division: Pinklon Thomas, a MOTIVATED Greg Page, Dokes and there were no rematches with the likes of Witherspoon.

@@exar657 Like I said, anyone who was a SERIOUS threat to Holmes, he didn’t want any part of in the last few years of his reign. Do you really believe Bey and Bonecrusher deserved title shots MORE than someone like Pinklon Thomas? Pinky started calling Holmes out in ‘83. Bonecrusher beating Bruno WAS a big deal, but there’s no way it should have leapfrogged him over Pinky (who may have already won the WBc title by the time Bonecrusher and Holmes mixed it up). It shouldn’t have leapfrogged him over the recently deposed Michael Dokes either. As for Page, as I’ve said elsewhere, when he was motivated, he was arguably the best young heavyweight in the division. Unfortunately, you never knew which Page would show up. Obviously, Holmes didn’t see him as a pushover, that’s part of why they never got together. And Page DID win the title from Coetzee. A Coetzee fight should have happened for unification purposes. Hell, I think Tim Witherspoon deserved a rematch with Holmes, but we both know Holmes didn’t want any of that because he barely squeaked by Terrible Tim. Then there was Tony Tubbs. Because Bey beat Page, you could make a case for him (since he was the USBA champ), but Holmes COASTED his last couple of years as champ. Now… the other factor in all this is Don King, but that’s a whole’notha conversation.

Dokes was lucky to get a draw.

Had it 5-5, a legit draw. Dokes' boxing saved him in the latter part of the fight, though Ocasio won the 10th round.

I had Domes winning by 2 points based on ring general ship.and effective punching and he just looked the part.Ocassio was laying all over Dikes.

Come on,Ossie's no heavyweight. He can't punch at all...Ossie's a Junior heavyweight.. Ossie, " The Boston Crab" Ocassio...he got that nickname because of him being very, very No,Legged.

Dokes avenged that draw in the rematch stopping you ccasio in one round. Occasio became a cruiserweight world champion. After that. His more natural weight

Most times a very close fight like that with Dokes being undefeated. They will call it a draw. Because it's hard to give Dokes his first loss. Like that

Dikes probably was either Coked up like he was against Coetzee,or hung over from partying the night before. He could have found a dealer in San Juan very, very easily.

He had a strong shot, but most likely loses.
