In upstate S.C. looking to buy 100 Bob White quail soon. Almost go my pen ready. I need to build a brooder. Thanks for the great information 👍. New Sub.
Hey Big Mike thanks again for your comment Our brooder house for our quail is 24 by 12 because we had so many birds at one time and we have it separated into different sections to move birds as they hatch from section to section before they're ready to go out to the grow up in. We will be doing it a video on it soon make sure to keep a lookout
Wow, I agree with all supper great information. I recall dad was going to raise quail but never got off the ground. Now I'm wanting to raise Bob White, Due to I miss the call of a south Texas Bob White quail....thanks my God bless all...BR549

Very informative, I have one hundred bob white chicks coming in May. Video's like this are very helpful in getting me prepared for them. A lot of people recommend Turkey starter for the chicks in the beginning, will this work as good as what you use?
+sirocco454 thank you for your interest and commenting on our video will be having another one come out very shortly which will be more complete and to answer your question on the starter feed any good quality chick starter feed works good I like to try to use a medicated one just to help the birds along a little bit the turkey starter is good. One thing to remember is at first they do not want their food to be to course you want to gradually work up to a more granulated food once again thanks again for your interest in our Channel. If you have any more questions we may be able to help with don't hesitate to let us know
thank you Bill thank you for the kind words and for taking time to watch our the videos We have a few others on our Channel also if you haven't seen them yet
Thank you so much for all this good information. I am expecting coturnix chicks to hatch in a couple of weeks for the first time and have been contemplating setting up my brooder. I have a question for you. I will be using a ceramic heat emitter for a heat source which will not have a light. During the day the chicks will have plenty of light from a window but at night will I need a source of light for them to find food and water. I would imagine they eat and drink around the clock but just making sure. Also I have two different foods for them. One is 30% protein turkey starter, the other is a 24% like the one you use. Can I mix these to increase their protein.
Yes they will be active throughout the night Sandra, But there not in the wild and we don't usually keep a light on them at night so I would say not necessary but it is your own preference. Now a light at night will allow them to grow quicker because they will be eating more. Yes you can mix the foods together but regulate how much they get at first so there body's will adjust to the change, Thank you very much for you support and watching. Let me know if you have any other questions
The Tennessee Red Quail are the most cannibalistic, but are the meat bird, so for meat bird, I use the Jumbo Bobwhite, very calm, some are even docile, pets, not nervous as the northern Bobwhite quail IS. Wisconsin Bobwhite will weigh 14 oz. full grown, and will be full grown at 5 months old, so it will dress out at 9 oz. I stick with the Wisconsin Bobwhite Quail, and, or the smaller Texas a.m. Quail will be full grown at 12 weeks, but dress out at 7 oz. And the metal type trough is a poor insulator, so he needs to insulate the out side of his metal trough. You can use nothing more than a washing machine box, or a refrigerator box, and I would not use a infra red bulb, but do use two different 100 watt C.F.L. natural day light bulb, one at each end of my box, all boxes were free. His feeder is a excellent idea.
that's a very interesting piece of information on the Tennessee Red Quail thank you for sharing it with us and also thank you for your support and watching our videos
I have found by experience, that marbles are much better than rocks, they are easy to clean and sanitize, but the biggest advantage is that the light reflecting off of them attracts the newly hatched chicks, and helps them get started on the water. I use food troughs and use them in it also to attract them. Yes, you have to spend more time filling them but I don't produce on such a large scale as you. Thanks for the very well developed video by the way!
I'm sorry that we didn't see your very good information that you posted until now... Sometimes it seams we don't always get our questions and comments from Gonow. as we should. But yes that is super good info that you shared. Thankyou and thanks for watching
I am having a hard time finding quail or game bird feed with a high enough protein content. I am wondering if I can grind up meal worms or grain free dog food along with the game bird feed to bring up the protein content. Would this be ok for the quail?
Yes you can grind up mealworms or anyting that would have the protein in it that would help that as long as you don't have a large number of birds We use a game bird feed mixture which is a lot like buying bird seed but one of our feed suppliers makes it and it seems to perform really well
Hello Mike, I would use one of the large water tanks. That's what we are using and Works quite well as you can control the humidity and temperature easily by placing a top on it. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching and commenting Jim
What do you suspect if you have Quail chicks in there first week to week and a half laying around dead, not piled up, just scattered around everywhere in your building.
+Daniel Kahle Daniel, you will usually have some dieoff of chicks as there is usually some sick or unhealthy new born chicks. We give ours a vitamin/electrolyte solution that will help, Are they warm enough Aprox 92/95 degrees in the brouder the first few weeks. Use pine shavings not sawdust, they will eat the sawdust.Use a red inferred bulb to deter pecking. The first several weeks is a time when young chicks are susceptible to anything. I hope this helps.thanks for your comments
+frankbravura the only thing about the dirt is that it would be harder to keep clean. Wood shavings will absorb better and is easier to handle as you will need to change the shavings a few times to keep things clean. Thanks for your comment and for your support
Great video. Very informative. Just for clarification for those looking to replicate the set-up, that’s 2” PVC.

At what age can bobwhite quail go outside without heat?

Also, for 50 small birds, you can use one of the kiddy pools that you find at dollar stores at least til they get to where they can jump uot
I have 50 Bob white quail coming in a few weeks what size stock tank do you recommend
Hello Mike, I would use one of the large water tanks. That's what we are using and Works quite well as you can control the humidity and temperature easily by placing a top on it. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching and commenting
