I'm glad to have gotten to eat at the Norwin Diner before it closed. 1991-1995 was really the golden age for WQED in my eyes. So much amazing original programming and I'm sure it didn't hurt that I was a young child and was the first American generation to have Barney, Thomas via Shining Time Station, and many of the other great children's' shows on PBS at the time. I still watch PA Diners (and all of Rick's shows from this era) regularly and they just never get old.
Ahh what memories Serro's aka Norwin Diner brings back. As a family, we started going to the 'steel' diner starting in the early 1970's and through the decades until the Norwin Diner was no more. The food was fantastic and affordable. And the pies were heavenly, especially the lemon meringue with the incredibly high meringue. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who misses this place.
Dinners closed in the pandemic, l appreciate the ones that still hold that nostalgia,I go to them once or twice a month ,it's a great feeling ,how,it reminds me of my first dinner visit with pap.😁🙏
I was a waitress at Norwin Diner in 1974-1975. I remember one day the owner asked myself and another waitress to pick the bugs out of the noodles that were in a large bucket. I walked out instead of doing that. I never ate there because I knew what went on in the back.
Was the Serro's/Norwin Diner at the site of the current Jacktown Plaza on Route 30? I've been on that stretch of 30 from the Turnpike to 376 several times in the past, and the building has been long gone. The stainless steel Serro's that became the Morgan Eastland Diner in Butler is now in Erie on Presque Isle Parkway, and is now called Sarah's Diner, and also includes several other older buildings from the area. The Jerry O'Mahoney Serro's has since been restored to it's original look, and is now on display at the Lincoln Highway Roadside Museum on Route 30 between Latrobe and Ligonier, which also serves as the museum's snack bar.
That’s a throwback
Morgan’s Diner closed in 2003 and moved to Erie and now is called Sally’s Diner

Thank you so much. Glad we were here for you as a young learner and still with you as a lifelong learner!

This one closed over a decade before the pandemic.
Lincoln Highway seems like that would be a great trip.🤗
It certainly is. Especially throughout the majority of Pennsylvania.
One of my all time favorites! The music cues help make it for me. Any info on where you found these tracks?

I think everyone knows you’re full of shit.
Why did you get rid of the full documentary?
Hi Joseph! You can catch the full documentary (and even more great content) on our Passport app: wqed.org/passport

Yes, the left half of Jacktown Plaza is where Norwin Diner sat. I worked there 1993-1995.
