    Two four year olds- that's heartbreaking. Very sad.

    The reason the kids didn’t have on life vests will haunt the parents for life.

      This wasn’t death due to drowning. This was death due to impact of a boat and children trapped underneath it. Every child on that boat had life jackets on, and even some adults also. One of the survivors is a 7 year old girl in the ICU with serious impact trauma and spinal cord injuries. The boat flipped them out and fell over on them. This is a case where life jackets prevented removing children from underneath the boat because they couldn’t be pulled down underneath the surface out from under the boat.

      The life jackets are no joke. But their explanation of events leading to the boat flip are absolutely a joke. 6" waves did not contribute to this boat flipping

    • @a.walters123
      @a.walters123 2 місяці тому

      @@mattrebholtz3869 it was being towed, the wake/waves and the aggressive momentum of the tow caused it to capsize. I had a hard time understanding this as well until I UA-cam’d pontoon boats capsizing and saw how easily and prone they are to this. Either way, the family didn’t do anything wrong here. The kids all had life jackets, the professionals - the tow operators and owners of the boat rental - did not ensure that this family was safe.

    So sad. Another case of people not wearing life jackets. The elderly and children especially. When you drown being "uncomfortable" wearing one isn't going to matter.

      Why do you assume no one was wearing a lifejacket? All kids were wearing vests. One of the survivors is a 7 year old girl who is in the ICU with severe impact trauma and broken bones. This boat tipped over with all of them on it, trapped some underneath and impacted on others. This wasn’t just a simple drowning because parents didn’t put vests on their kids.

    The bow of a pontoon boat can torpedo under the water when overloaded and cause the stern to come out and possibly flip the boat. This happened to me when I was a kid but we didn't flip. I now own a pontoon boat and that memory makes me respect the water and boat loading and balance.

      Another source said that they were trapped underneath the pontoon, so maybe they did have lifejackets, but they needed to remove them to swim down to get out from under the boat.

    • @a.walters123
      @a.walters123 2 місяці тому

      My God, make sure you educate yourself before making comments like this. These kids ALL had vests on, and even some adults as well. The boat was being towed, and the operator didn’t ensure that the boat was properly balanced and didn’t tow at a safe speed. The entire 25 ft boat capsized, tipped over with all 11 people being thrown into the water. The children were all in the same section of the boat, which was the first part to hit the water, and they were trapped underneath. Some people ended up in the ICU with broken bones and spinal cord damage. This wasn’t simply a drowning due to negligence. The parents and family here did nothing wrong. I hope to god they don’t see your comment, I would suggest editing it.

    I’m just asking a question. OK I’m not presuming anything. This boat is being towed obviously it broke down, correct? Why isn’t everyone on the boats all boats involved wearing lifejackets not believe in them and they were children. They should have life jackets on maybe not the adults and I am against that too because I know lifejackets save peoples lives. And last time I knew when I was on Lake Powell all children will require to have lifejackets on.

    • @a.walters123

      They all had lifejackets on. And most of the adults did as well. The boat was being towed too fast, through a wake zone, and it tipped. The kids were impacted by the boat, and then trapped underneath. There’s people in the ICU currently with broken bones and serious head trauma. This wasn’t just “stupidity”, unless you count the tow operator. I hope to god the parents don’t see your comment, that’s an awful thing to incorrectly insinuate towards grieving parents.

    The boat pulling the pontoon leaves a huge wake behind. Sounds like the pontoon was in the wake and was caused to flip.

    • @mattrebholtz3869
      @mattrebholtz3869 2 місяці тому +1

      This is the only explanation that makes even a little sense. Front boat loaded down riding with the bow up and the rope wasn't long enough and the pontoon got stuffed at an angle, rolling the boat over. 6" waves played no factor in this boat flipping.

    They could well have been wearing life vests. In fact, it's quite possible that they were trapped under the barge with vests on, and the vests made it possible for rescuers to recover their bodies. I think other main points to investigate in addition to use or non-use of PFDs will be the training and licensing (or more likely non-training and non-licensing) of the operators of both boats, towing speed, lead distance from the towing boat to the towed boat, effects of any wake action on the towed vessel, any possible overloading of either boat, and any substance abuse impairment. The Go Fund Me aspect is fishy: Insurance should cover these kinds of expenses. Not carrying insurance on a potentially deadly motor vessel is neglectful, crazy, and hopefully illegal. If there is insurance, grifting off these deaths is just plain bad. It's sad. My condolences to the loved ones of these people and best wishes for recovery to the injured. Everyone who's going to operate a vessel, please be trained, licensed, and insured.

    This is why as an adult you should already know how to swim to save your life and not rely on a life vest. Also you always want to have small children with their life vest no matter what because they can't really can't swim too well. I blame all the adults that were on this boat also the ones that could not swim for themselves

      @@gprangregardless, the people responsible here are not the parents and family. They were renting a boat, which broke down, and the same company came to tow them. The company had the legal responsibility to make sure they were towed safely. The comments here are heinously savage, accusing the parents of neglect somehow. All kids on that boat were wearing life jackets, they were killed due to impact and being trapped underneath.
