I've always felt Link was destined to be the next Yoshi, in the sense that a dedicated main will one day push him really far using his own natural weird jank and stuff. If he was just a little less sluggish he'd be a really good rep I think
Yeah that dedicated main is TAS Link, LOL. It would be cool if a developer made it so pressing down on the arrow pad converted old link to young link and back. Also if he could use A attacks while carrying a bomb and throw the bomb like a battering item with Z.
Hey MetiCu thanks for crediting Germ for discovering the acid drop and for bringing some of link's more underutilized secrets to light. I really enjoyed the vid. That said I'd like everyone to know that bomb launching was discovered and crafted by Savestate and not Aklo. Felt the vid might be misleading in that regard. That's all from me, hope to see you all at a tourney someday soon.
Heya! It's umo. Thought it was a good video too giving props, especially to germ and acid dropping. I still remember when the linkcord was calling me dumb for saying that's acid dropping back when yinks and others were calling it fuze dashing.
I love how the Goron Rolling tech is named after something actually in Zelda. It makes it seem like the move was actually intended and added by the devs to Link’s moveset.
I calculated it and Link actually is the worst overall across the series out of the original 12. He's worse than Kirby and Jigglypuff, they're low tier in 3 games but are saved by being top tier once. I mained Link in Smash 4, his kit has a lot of cool stuff that makes him a unique character. He has a high skill ceiling which leaves a lot of room for potential.

I think one of the many unknown great things to happen during 2020, due to obvious reasons, was not only the creation of Slippi but the incentive for otherwise underappreciated characters to finally have a way to feed on matches even if it takes many losses to finally understand how they could actually be viable. Looking from the outside, Smash has always had this unique place of being a locals game where most of what becomes the norm has to be developed by going cross country to any number of these tournaments or events or reading external forum posts/guides written by the people who could afford to do that legwork. It's insanely valuable in itself and probably why cool narratives like the 5 gods could exist, but the data was always limited. There was a time when you had your KoreanDJ's who had to money match in order to get ahead or entire regions of the world like Japan that would be dismissed unless considerable effort was made by top players to explore those places to see what the Smash community could be like. For all the hardships this game has faced, do in no small part because Nintendo is a dinosaur to borrow Woolie's analogy, it has the best grounds to never truly die now. It has it's past glory built on the underground, where meeting people and word of mouth developed most of what the meta was initially... and now it has the traditional aspect of every other fighting game where grinding against an infinite number of faceless players from around the world, and in many of our cases getting reck for a long time till we get good, is going to challenge that offline norm for the better. It really needs both of those things to have a future. This game is far from solved and people are still passionate about it.
Totally agree. I've always believed that " low / mid tiers " weren't all as bad as people thought.the people that mained them just needed more time and practice to understand where there chars are weak and where they are strong
I feel like Link is similar to Samus in that they both have some very niche but powerful and hard to perform tech, making them have a lot of potential, but not getting their time to shine
Even with that tech, their weaknesses still make it hard for them to compete with the top tiers played by the best players. At the end of the day, you have to be able to consistently win neutral exchanges. It turned out that Yoshi was a good enough character, that if you mastered his tech you can go really far.
Link is basically the character that depends the most on being used by someone who knows how to use every tech in order to find success(actually, might be second to Mewtwo)... but at that point, you could just main anyone else that can do better and have an easier life, unless you're trying to prove a point or something.
People think tier lists are God's Laws.... Of course the most practiced characters are at the top. You ever wonder why a game that hasn't changed in almost 20 years still updates its tierlists? Any character with unique abilities/moves can be best if played by the right person.
m2k hasn’t played melee in like two years man, you can tell by watching him play he was rusty as hell. Kuya failed to combat him ledgecamping (in a situation where ledgecamping is the worst thing for mew2king to do to get a win) and then threw the match.
@@antagonizingusername It was literally impossible to damage M2K in that game because of how it works in Melee. M2K knew this. That's why there was a rule made against it.
