Mark, just found your videos ! Really nice work. I am sure you spend a lot of time editing and putting together a quality video, so Thank You for the hard work! I am about 3 minutes away and used to fish there a few years ago. Last year I thought about putting my kayak in, but never did. This year I will since I added an electric motor. Learning a lot watching, so thanks again. I see I really need to get a fish finder and learn how to use it. That should keep me busy. Maybe I will se you on the water.
Thank you Dave I appreciate it. I am glad your enjoying my videos it means a lot. It’s a labor of love I enjoy the editing as much as the fishing. You will enjoy the lake, Green Lane, she’s a gem!! Yeah a good graph will definitely help out, thats awesome!! Have decided on a brand of fish finder? Look forward to seeing you around the lake! tight lines!!
Mark, not sure what sonar system to get yet. Will do some searching. Cost will be a factor. I spent $200 on lithium battery, so my play money is low. Battery was worth every penny though.
Nice! I have a small Dakota lithium Battery I use on my kayak. Expense but worth the money! I find that the prices on good sonar units drop a lot in November/December. End of year before the latest and greatest units come out.
Mark, I bought a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv, sonar unit. This will fit my yak well and looks easy enough for a first timer like me to figure out. Got my appointment to register for a rack spot on the Grsen Lane Res. Now we need some warmer weather. I have had enough snow...gotten all can out of this experience !
That was the beginning of this week. I talked about fishing, but our lakes were still iced up. Solid rig there, anything that gets you out on the water! On a side note, I am going to see the guys from Susquehanna Fishing Tackle at a show tomorrow. Gonna ask them about the cabin fever sale.
Yeah the video was from Sunday! Beautiful day. Thanks man, I appreciate the views, that little boat is a labor of love. Thats cool going to see the guys from SFT at the show!! Looks like they got a great booth setup at the show! I saw a Facebook live chat they did. Won’t be long now cabin fever sale will be in two weeks.
Any chance you or have you seen anyone who’s taken the rivets out of the seam and split the boat to mod or wire on the inside? Looking for info and can’t find much
Great video. I just picked up my American sportsman 12. My question is, when attaching things to the boat do you use any kind of adhesive as a backup for the screws. For instance I want to do a simple Scotty anchor lock on the bow. Did you use any adhesive when you screwed down your Scotty accessories ? Thanks in advance
Awesome! What kind of material is the deck itself? Was looking to do the same to my sun dolphin American 12 after seeing your video using 1/2” green HDPE 24”x48” sheet or similar to mount my trolling motor on.
I use 3/8” thick piece plexiglass I found in the trash. I grabbed the piece, it sat in the garage for months. I thought what the hell use it. It has worked well! Try plywood, and put fiberglass resin on it to seal it! I did that to my 14’ Sylvan. Worked well.
Would you be able to share links to the various gear items? I just got a Sum Dolphin American 12, not the pro, though and I'm wondering how well kitted out I can get it. I don't know a lot about all the electronics you show and I'd like to read up on them a bit. I see 2 transducers with a mount for a third and I'd like to understand what they can all do. Are the plates over the side and back prefabricated or did you make those and rivet them through the plastic? Great looking setup, will poke through your vids to see if I can see you fish in it.
The fish finders are Lowrance Ti’s 7” and 9” the 7” is ran on a standard 83/200 khz transducer, the 9” is using a totalscan transducer. I made the bow plate out of 3/8” plastic. All screwed together with S.S. Sheet metal screws. Thank you, I love adding to it each year. Thanks for watching I hope this helped.
So I purchased a Minn kota quick release bracket for the trolling motor, (Minn Kota Trolling Motor Quick-Release Bracket MKA-16-03) I trash picked a 3/8” thick piece of plexiglass. You can use 1/2”plywood. I took a piece of cardboard and marked it up as a template, and cut it to shape to fit over the front of the bow area. I cut out the area where the existing mount for a trolling motor was on the boat. I doubled up the plexiglass where the quick release motor bracket mounts for extra strength, you can double up the wood. Once I cut the plexiglass to match the bow area, I sanded it and painted it. I drilled the holes for the quick release plate. Mounted the plate to the plexiglass. I then lined the plexiglass up over the bow to and centered it. Drilled holes into the gunnel rail and pop riveted the plexiglass to the bow area. I hope this helps! You can hit me up on Facebook or Instagram and I can send you pictures in messenger if you need! Thanks buddy for watching. I appreciate the views.
I used a hole saw 4” and carefully cut holes in the bow area and stern area into the interior shell of the boat. I used an electricians wire fish and ran the fish from the bow to the stern and taped the wires to the metal fish and pulled them through. There is some foam in between the inner and outer shells of the hull. It took a few tries to get past it. I cover the holes with a 4” pvc electric cover plate
Exactly, the boat has a double hull, there is roughly two inch gap in some spots others and less than a inch between the hulls. I carefully used a 4” hole saw, I cut 4” holes into the gunnels in the stern, mid section and bow area and used a electrical fish to go from hole to hole. To run the wires. Then covered the holes with 4” square plastic electrical junction box covers. Cut out holes in the covers and installed seal tight connectors ran the wires thur the connectors and sealed all gaps with Marine grade silicone. I painted them camouflage colors. Just take your time when cutting the hole.
Yeah there is some foam, it’s not totally solid so I was able to get around it in spots using a. Electrician fish! www.amazon.com/Klein-Tools-56331-Optimized-Housing/dp/B081TVR4N7

Hey Josh, no I used a 4” hole saw and carefully cut a holes inside the boat, watching not to go all the way through both hulls. I fished the wires through the open space between the hills with an electrical fish. Then I covered the holes with a plastic pvc 4” square outdoor electrical plate. I used marine grade silicone to help make a water proof seal around the cover. Just take your time drilling into the inner hull! Thanks for watching. If you need anything else hit me up on Instagram and I can message pictures and stuff to you.
off topic. Do you feel the boat bends easy due to the plastic material its made of? every time i ratchet strap it seems like areas strapped bends. or is this pretty normal?
Yeah, especially in the heat. It will bend a little. Just don’t over tighten it. But it’s pretty think plastic. I have drug it through rocks for years now and it gets some scrapes but it’s tough.

do you keep this over behind the high school or down on hill road? How long do you need to quarantine a boat before they let you use it?

18th is earliest we can get our boats up there right?
Correct
Can’t wait man
I believe if your boat is on the rack on the 18, you can be out on the water by the 28th
Same here I just got a new hook reveal with Side scan and mapping.
Daniel Hostetter dude that’s awesome, the side scan really is such a valuable tool!
What is your experience using it over the weight capacity?
None I never overload it. I usually fish alone. With two batteries and some gear
OVF, I have overloaded mine without issue. My son and I are both over 250 and she handles us and our gear without issues. I think she even takes waves better with both of us on it.
