Probably the best video I’ve seen, I refused to chase this one because I was terrified by the conditions my synoptic meteorology teacher told us students about that morning. This video helps us learn about tornado formation, how the center of energy is dodgy at first, then how it starts gaining momentum. Very good video.

Gary England was the chief meteorologist at the time, and we were talking to him over our Getner system which broadcast over the air. On that particular day, the cell coverage was weak in many areas so our communication was very difficult.
I was at OU and oblivious to how bad this was until we were told to take shelter. You, Amy, Gary, and the rest saved many lives. (Cell coverage was not great back then)
This is the definition of great storm chasers. Professional and know there shit. Well done. Terrifying how big it became but these men were nothing short of professional going about it.
Impressive video and a spectacular tornado! There were points where the circulation appeared to be very intense. Was there any scouring of the field or substantial trenches dug up along the track of this particular tornado?
blueznjazz123 This reminds me of the Elie, Manitoba F5 tornado, it was only about 200 yards wider than this one but had very intense rotation. It swept entire houses off their foundations and threw several vehicles into the air that included a tractor trailer and a van loaded with drywall.
I think Gary called in to work that day. Seriously though, such awesome power. An EF 5 tornado can take the lives of even those who do everything right. That is a power you must respect. If you hear sirens, get underground if you can. If you cannot get underground, protect yourself the best you can and prepare for your afterlife. A direct hit above ground from an EF 4 or 5 tornado is something you are unlikely to survive. Pay close attention to watches in your area, and do not take warnings lightly. You cannot predict when the big one might hit. Always better safe than sorry, or worse.
