Jeff Petroski videoed the 1999 Moore/ Bridgecreek F-5 tornado at very dangerous close range, following it.
Afterwards I called his number and incredibly he answered.
    Talked a few minutes.

Gary England, one of the premier if not the best meteorologists in the world. He is the lifeline to the people in the path of this tornado, which, by the way KILLED people in Bridge Creek and Moore, Oklahoma. Val and Amy helped him to make sure people knew the needed to be underground.

The other crazy thing is the 2013 tornado closely followed the exact path of the 1999 EF5 crazy how it looked to have started smaller and got so large and it moved FAST.

Probably the best video I’ve seen, I refused to chase this one because I was terrified by the conditions my synoptic meteorology teacher told us students about that morning. This video helps us learn about tornado formation, how the center of energy is dodgy at first, then how it starts gaining momentum. Very good video.

These videos are so fascinating. I live in Lawton, and I vaguely remember these tornadoes, only because it was my third birthday and I spent it in a closet with my mom and brother. Tornado season's here again, I'm pretty excited and I hope this year is the year I can see a live tornado.

my mom and i were visiting lawton last november to go see my brother at fort sill for the army graduation and on the way into moore (of course this was late at night when we got there)we heard the sirens going off and im like theirs no way we’re getting hit with a twister in early november all i do remember from that storm was the lightning was intense besides the quarter sized hail but it was downpouring like crazy and the winds we’re gusting i would say about 40-45mph or something close to it but no sign of any funnel clouds.my mom wasnt too happy about it but i was looking fwd to seeing something that night it would of been my highlight of my oklahoma trip cause i wanna be a storm chaser someday and just driving on I44 gave me chills cause of the three EF5’s that ripped that highway to shreds over the years.

Its crazy watching Jeff Piotroski's video of the same event and comparing the vid quality and the tech you guys were using to what is in use now. At one point in Jeff's video the people on the spotter radio freq tell him or someone else to call 911 from a landline to report a location!

    - engine revving
    - wipers squeaking
    - little bit of rain and wind

I think Gary called in to work that day.
Seriously though, such awesome power. An EF 5 tornado can take the lives of even those who do everything right. That is a power you must respect. If you hear sirens, get underground if you can. If you cannot get underground, protect yourself the best you can and prepare for your afterlife. A direct hit above ground from an EF 4 or 5 tornado is something you are unlikely to survive. Pay close attention to watches in your area, and do not take warnings lightly. You cannot predict when the big one might hit. Always better safe than sorry, or worse.
