I think Canon is behaving as if it is the chief of the professional camera market. We wait other brands to offer competent technology at an affordable price 👍
I don"t use the Meike drop-in filter adapter (yet), but do have one of their lenses I use on my Canon M5. It's the 12mm f/2.8 manual focus, manual aperture (pretty sure the same lens sells rebranded as an Opteka). I only need it occasionally, so bought it for the low price compared to the Canon EF-M 11-22mm. Frankly, I was surprised by both the very good image quality, smooth operation and excellent build quality! It has a very solid, "old school" lens feel to it. Way better than I expected. While I have largely been brand loyal with Canon, I have to say there are a lot very good quality 3rd party lenses and accessories being offered. I also use the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 lens on my M5, as well as a Commlite lens adapter and a set of Viltrox macro extension tubes in EF-M mount. I've also been experimenting with K&F filters, ever since my old go-to B+W raised their prices! There's some innovative stuff too, such as what Kamlan, Venus Laowa and some others have been offering. So much gear, so little time! 😎
I have the Meike and all 3 filters and have been very happy with them all but have shot a few times and the ND has been on and I’ve shot without noticing so I always have to check it’s not on, it would be be great to be able lock the filter off, great for the price and I like have the filter behind the lens instead of having to screw on
I have this filter as well. I love it especially since I mainly do wedding work and its easy to go from indoors to out doors now cause I don't have to rebalance when I remove the nd. Only complaint I have is that it gives me a green tint, but I just corrected it in camera by pushing more magenta in the color settings. I've misplaced it many times tho. Mine has a scratch cuz it fell on gravel once. However it doesn't show up in camera unless I get lens flares and the flare is in the direction of the scratch. But who cares it adds "character"😂😂. Over all great adapter and I'm looking into getting the promist dropin aswell.
I have the canon drop in filter adapter (with Canon drop in CPL filter) but was not happy with reviews of the Canon Drop in ND. So I got this Meike drop in ND and it fits perfectly in the Canon adapter and it works perfectly.
I have the Meike adapter with the clear and ND drop ins for my R6. I got it back in January (I believe) from Amazon here in Germany. I absolutely love it. Aside from a few minor AF issues (eye detect) it's been absolutely perfect.
I juz received mine a couple days ago & tested it. Before that all of my lenses were adapted using normal viltrox adapter. I had a little bit of AF issue when using eye detection. I think it cant detect the eye as far as my normal viltrox can do. But most of the time it was great & joy to use. Now it replaced all of my filter. I use it with my eos rp. Now the body can act like it have a sensor cover. I must say that i never regret having it. It's good to know that the filter is cross compatible coz i juz wondering the same. Thank u for making this video 🫡
i have the jjc one for the M50, same thing as this, i have lots of lee square filters and third party screw in filters for various lenses so money isn't a limiting factor, its the faff of using them when you not using them all of the time, the changing of end filters and the inconvenience of not being able to use the lens hood or / and lens cap is whats made me leave them at home if its not a specific shoot that i know i'll need them with the drop in its a no brainer, the only down side to the ones for the efm is the larger body of the adapter does eat into the already small M50 hand grip, but i do now take the adapter out with me much more than i ever did with the end filters so well done to the boys and girls that made them but an additional item they need to have for this unit (at least the efm) is a filter holder for the un usd two filters, as it is they just get stored in there plastic boxes which are large and bulky for the size of the filter, a small plastic holder for the two would be great addition
Kolari make a wide range of filters for these drop-in adapters, so they are extremely handy. I have both the Canon and the Meike adapter and found, the same as you, the Meike adapter to be spot on.
@@AlbertLeungKY Oh. And the company "Breakthrough" make another filter adapter, again using the same format of filters, and have an even bigger selection of filters available.
Mine works great, and there was no way I was going to get the Canon one with its loose dial. Solid mount, even with the huge Sigma 60-600. The colour shift is fine to work with, and actually helps me with matching with some of the cameras I use. The only problem I've had is when I opened the clear filter the release button and spring fell out, closely followed by the internal latch and spring. I worked out how to put it together again, but the c-ring that holds it in place is defective. I'm sure they'll replace it, just a bit of an inconvenience. Other than that all working well.
Ijust bought an R7 and this very filter adapter and cant say enough good things about it. In fact, I just uploaded my amatuer review of the R7 and mentioned this in it and why you need it.
Why can't anyone not make an adapter to use Mirrorless lenses on Canon DSLR's Surely that would be more viable product . Whereby i could buy Mirrorless lenses to use with my Canon DSLR's ie 850D/90D
Great review! My main concern it's not the fact that the colour shifts to warmer tones, I'm seeing in some of you shots, like the outdoor one, the sky is blown out, almost like it reduces the dynamic range in highlights compared to the Canon one. Even the other shot were you are turned into a computer and the outside from the window is also more overexposed. Did you notice this pattern? Thanks
Thanks! That’s probably just minor exposure difference with the limitation of no hard stops on either fillers if that makes sense. For example, did you notice more details in the shadow on the same shot?
@@AlbertLeungKY yes I was thinking that probably was an exposure difference because on the indoor shot there's more detail in the shadows, but the outdoor one not as much, at least until you the moment when you change the ND amount on the Canon one. For this reason I'm quite torn between getting the Meike or a second hand Canon. You are still happy with the results of your Meike?
Why can’t they make an RF to RF version? You have to have EF lenses in order to have this great filter. I know the same applies to the Canon version, but why can’t there be a straight RF version?
any adapter between an RF lens and RF body would upset the focusing distance. The distance is already correct for RF to RF in other words, adding length would nerf the image. (but yes, if I could have one, I'd buy it lol)
This is more useful for video shooters so Canon didn’t design the RF mount for this purpose as they want people to buy their cine line professional video stuff.
@@genxtechguyyeah also with DSLR the mirror takes up 24mm of space so this adapter is essentially aligning it correctly as if the R body was an EF body. The new RF 35 1.2 has a filter at the back of the lens but that doesn’t solve the filter for other RF lenses. The body should have it really
The EF to RF adaptor is only possible because of the extra flange distance of the EF mount. An RF to RF adaptor would act like a macro tube, throwing off focus and effective aperture etc.
No, a Canon mount and the Pentax Mount are different and incompatible. Having said that, you can find adapters to take a Pentax lens for use on popular mirrorless brands but I wouldn't suggest that as a transition path to mirrorless for a variety of reasons.
one month later, Canon will sue Meike and ban this adapter😂😂😂😂
😪
