    I'm the 10th great granddaughter of Ann Foster, "Goody Foster". She was accused of witchcraft in Salem. She denied under torture until her daughter and granddaughter were accused. She confessed to save their lives. She died in jail awaiting her execution. This wasn't ergot poisoning. This was young girls afraid of getting in trouble, blaming a slave, then loving all the attention they got. Little bitches acted like they were being attacked by demons when Ann Foster and others were brought in front of them. The people of Salem treat it as something to make money off of, not the deaths of innocent people.

      It's been a great many years since then. That said i totally agree with you! Human nature seldom changes and it's within our nature to give up our own safety and if need be our lives to protect our children. Ann foster more than likely never ever gave it a 2nd thought. As for her accusers well it seems mob mentality never changed either. Be proud of your ancestor and thanks for sharing.

    Young lady, I can confidently say that out of all the channels with ppl narrating scary stories, the paranormal, etc, you are my favorite to hear. Your documentaries are extremely intriguing and put together in a fantastic way; the editing and visuals timing with your voice, shit is perfect. But yeah chica, keep up the good work. It's going to take you to places you didn't even fathom you'd be at.

    I was sort of half listening to your videos while doing other things when the story about the washer woman witch came on. I know what was wrong with those kids. They had a condition called Ehlers Danlos syndrome. It causes joints to over extend and dislocate spontaneously. It can cause low blood flow to the brain causing people with it to stare off into space or be unable to remember a word. They would look bewitched and like their tongues were being held. People with EDS usually have a host of other medical conditions that go along with it. One of those conditions is Dysautonomia. The brain is not able to control the autonomic system well. It causes heart palpitations, shortness of breath, sometimes seizures which would cause the body arching.
    Now off to listen to this again as I would like to look into it further.

      Interesting. I think many of the accused also had the condition because they're all similar in phenotype when described

    These documentary-style videos are the best and really help your channel stand out from other "Let's Read"-style horror narrators. You separate fact from conjecture in a clear way, then show how they relate to each other. Basically, you come across like you're an actual scholar. Props!

    6:35 I get the joke now in Monty Python's movie "The search for the holy grail".
    And to the rest of the video:
    If people were indigenous -> They are demons , they must be cleansed or Christianity must be brought to them by force.
    If people (In Europe) were trying to preserve their ancient believes,rituals or herb medicine healing -> Burn them,they're witches.
    But you shake your head and say: Humans were crazy those days, but not much is changed fellow human. Now-days people interested by the metaphysical are rejected by modern scientists, people who care for nature are called Hippies, people who believe in the supernatural are scolded and the ones who want to make you think about something are called "Edgy". It is the same as the medieval only in milder position. Those days you would be burned on a stake and vanish in smoke, now-days you will be ridiculed until you repudiate your own opinion.

    I find this documentary a very well put one! As a witch, it's a little hard to find things that aren't super grating on my nerves, lol. I find it interesting that in Pope Innocent's decree, there wasn't actually an order to start killing witches nor did the church actually expressly give those orders out but it certainly didn't stop the bloodshed at all. I know also that you mentioned that the speculation as to why there was so much violence towards witches that if ever wanted to, I would love to discuss with you!

    The symptoms the children suffered are similar to those of strychnine poisoning, which include agitation, fear or apprehension, painful muscle spasms, and tightness in the jaw. One symptom in particular that matches the description given in historical records is, due to severe muscle contractions, uncontrollable arching of the neck and back.

    Three of my ancestors were punished for being bokkenrijders. One was tortured to death and hanged, one died in prison and luckily my auntie was one of the few lucky to escape prison and punishment. The trials were mostly based on confessions under torture. There were so many families left behind broken. That kind of shit is why church and state need to stay seperated.

      I used to practice witchcraft and sorcery, and made quite a few friends who called themselves "wiccan." A few of them didn't use what they knew for good or to benefit others. So, yes, there are those who do use magic for evil.

      Well not all witches are pagan or wiccan, nor do all witches take an oath to harm none.
      Unfortunately there are witches using their craft for weird and bad things.
      But it is good that the one's who are wiccan and/or follow the Rede keep informing people about the positive sides of witchcraft.

    + The Paranormal Scholar Great video. I like your work and the way you narrate your videos and do your research and homework. Your videos are very much among the best, as they cover many of the lesser known chapters of history and stand head and shoulders above most similar channels, which simply rehash the same tales which are old hat to even the most casual listener that has sat in a world history class. Your narration style, the way your videos are put together and presented, and the research you put into your videos is truly impressive. Equally as entertaining is reading the comment sections, where hypocrites that claim to be Christian verbally assault "Wiccans", "Satanists", and various idiots that are just as clueless about the occult as some hypocrites are with their versions of Christianity. Your well put together videos and the high comedy of the comment section make for good, informative entertainment. Well done.

    What insanity prevailed in those times. Amazing how many accused poisoners were considered witches. Like poison doesn't work on its own? I so appreciate your diligence in resrarch. I pray to all my gods that this never happens again, but I see it coming on a racial basis, as well as a religious one. We need to strive together to make sure this never ever happens again.

    I found this in my researches⬇
    Tony Robinson has a really interesting 3 part Quasi-Documentary/Exploration series called; 'SuperStitionS." the imminent scholar of Ancidnt& Modern History& Witches& Witchcraft is featured! I so enjoy Mr. Hutton each time I get to learn from him! He does many fun historical documentaries with Dr Ruth Goodman lil Tudor Village Life etc. It's very fun. In Superstisions, Tony, historically accurately, shows how they captured these unfortunate souls as 'witches' and how they may be tried or tested. It's amazingly brutal.

    My 10th GGrandfather was John Proctor. The movie "The Crucible" was very loosely based on his life in Salem Village. Both he and his wife owned a tavern located outside the Village. He didn't have an affair with his accuser. She was 12 yrs old and fired for doing a lousy job working for Mary Proctor; why she accused Mary. There was also a land dispute with a neighbor involved. She was executed after John because she was pregnant, but as soon as she had the child she was hung. I have the entire transcript of Johns trial with my genealogy records.
    A lot of those accused admitted to witchcraft to be spared from execution.

      Try to understand us.
      Power corrupts, and as I former Occultist and today a born again Christian I confirme this with all my might. I went from wanting small things like seeing if magick was real and having a bit of "innocent" fun with it, to casting curses on people, trying to augment my intelligence by rituals, make myself invisible by asking demons give me a hand, and fianlly become basically a metamorphe.
      Maybe you haven't yet come at that point where you realize that as you do not believe in God there is no objective reference for morality, and that therefore everything goes as long as you have the means to fulfill your will.
      A will which will become stranger over time.

    • @hufflepuffle6103
      @hufflepuffle6103 7 років тому +17

      Christelle Paige on a side note... Ive no idea why respecting nature and all living things... harming no one or ourselves... is in any way considered to be satanic. Why can't you just respect other peoples beliefs rather than trying to shove yours down others throats? It really is quite unnecessary.

    • @hufflepuffle6103
      @hufflepuffle6103 7 років тому +8

      Christelle Paige some wiccans practice abortion yes... however I think you should ask someone personally about their opinion rather than damning a whole group of people. I do not agree with abortion unless it is in the case of rape. I think children are gifts and whether it is unexpected or not one needs to learn to deal with the consequences of being irresponsible. HOWEVER, if someone were to go through with it i would much rather it be in a safe hospital environment rather then a botched surgery that could end both of their lives. Im not saying its right but people will do as they will. It is not my place to judge them.

    Many of us know these stories, but now what I am curious about is if these same reactions of those women were happening on the trials today (just hypothetically speaking) what the nowaday physicians and psychologists would diagnose? I am just so so curious, as it seems that we don't see such behaviour anymore at all...

    There's a great documentary on the witchfinder general and his...buddies that you can find on youtube called "Witch Hunt: A Century of Murder", you can find it under "A century of Murder" in two parts...about 45min each. Really great further watching with a lot of re-enactments and stuff.
    Also if any fans of the paranormal scholar watch star trek...the cardassian trial system reminds me of the witch hunts...guilty...and the courts only exist to prove them guilty regardless and feed the machine of the idea of witches.

    I've always wondered if a couple of actual witches are what caused the witch hysteria? Maybe there were a couple people practicing witchcraft and after finding that, people went kind of nuts thinking witches were everywhere. Either way so many innocent people lost their lives it's a terribly sad situation.

    very nice video I know quite a bit about sorcery and witch craft as I was a former occultist. I'm still working up the courage and time to mail u my story just put me down as anonymous when I do k. I was a way of the left hand path, sorcerer who pulled rituals from the original golden dawn methods, before it was fashionable and all these people popped up online saying you can have infinite knowledge. I didn't view dark entities as solely evil depending on how you referred to them and communicated. They're stuck here just as we are. A friend from the internet and my Catholic Church is what saved me from the occult and dark magik. The witches hammer was just as evil as the witches they were hunting who were way to smart to really be caught they headed west and south towards the capital cities of the new world. Any way just thought I'd toss that out . Great documentary , as always.

    Hi Paranormal Scholar :) i have to correct you on Denmarks last witch... Her name was first of all Anne Palles, and she was executioned in 1693 :) Just a little correction, i still have more to see of this awesome video ;-)

    • @TheParanormalScholar
      @TheParanormalScholar  7 років тому +1

      Glad you're enjoying it, David! Yes, Palles was the last to be legally executed for witchcraft in Denmark. However, there are other 'executions' which are said to have happened, performed outside of the law as a sort of mob justice, including Anna Klemens in the 19th century. Sadly, belief in and fear of witches took a very long time to die out - if it even has, entirely, today!

    It's interesting that the methods of testing if a person was a witch (water trials etcetera) were exactly the same as those recommended by the Mesopotamians, what some Christians would call heathens So they copied the methods of those they considered to be "evil" to root out "evil"?

    Of note, perhaps, is when witches existed as soothsayers and magic practitioners among the Anglo Saxons in heathen times their were two forms of the word as English was gendered, Wicca (“Wikka”), male, wicce (“witche”), female. In old English literature the male form, Wicca, is more common indicating most “witches” were men. But it’s the less widespread female form that survived into Early Modern English as witch as a pejorative. It’s inescapable that this reflected an increasing misogyny being promoted through society, especially in England.

      Kudos to you for letting your daughter choose her beliefs. I think the parents could show their child their own beliefs, but ultimately the child should be able to choose what they want to believe in.
      Plus most people aren't used to other people being accepting of other beliefs and will go ballistic for someone having a different belief. Really dumb in my opinion, but I'm more of the live and let live ideology.

      No, confession often meant that being spared from execution. Execution would only be considered if someone showed signs of relapsed heresy.
