This is still very alive and present in everyday life. Here in Texas today, if a neighbor turns in the name of a woman who is seeking an abortion after 6 weeks, that neighbor will receive $ 10,000.00. And the woman who is seeking an abortion can be arrested and sent to jail. Today is May 22, 2022 not the 1500's.
I am an old woman. In 1967, I became pregnant right after I graduated high school. There was no choice but to carry and birth the child. It hurt our families but most of all, my child. We have never had a normal relationship...it's almost as if she knew that I never wanted to be a mother so young. What I see now is horrifying. But the big question is why has there NEVER been any federal legislation proposed. After 49 years, nothing! I no longer donate to the cause, or vote because it's obvious the powers that have always been never meant us to have choice really. It's all bullshit, nurses need to learn abortion techniques and teach them to other women. This happened before Roe vs Wade was in place, it was known as Call Jane.
The very last sentence: " Being spiritual doesn't buy you out on doing the nitty-gritty work that needs to be done." That's a very powerful way to finish such a magnificent documentary.
In watching this again, i love that the baths of Sulis are mentioned as I come from a Celtic tradition. These films are such a comfort in the times in which women currently find themselves in America. We are entering a dark time for women in the US, with the beginning of rights of women being removed. i honestly feel sometimes as if we are in the opening scenes of "The Handmaid's Tale". May the Goddess watch over us all.
Wonderful to read your words. this is my second viewing & I too I'm struck by what is happening in the USA today. I see the parallel as men once again try to gain elevation by destroying the autonomy of womankind. This will not happen again, not in any form.
"i honestly feel sometimes as if we are in the opening scenes of "The Handmaid's Tale"." If that is the case, when has the human race *not* been on the verge of turning into "A Handmaid's Tale"? There has been *NO* age in human history when Women have had it better, and I say that as a trained historian (FWIW). If you know of a time (a historically-documented time, that is) when the situation is better than now, I would love to hear when and where it was.
That's why we need historians such as the folks who put together this fine documentary!! Modern historians for the most part are not ideologically biased to any great extent: they pursue what REALLY happened, instead of just swallowing the "official" version of history, which is usually not all that accurate in some very important aspects. Try showing this film in schools in many parts of North America for example - you'd get parental screamings by the galore!
@@spolch9482 - The Burning Times never happened. Christians did not wage War on Paganism in The Middle Ages and did not Burn Pagans at the Stake routinely. Pagans also didn't have a Unified single Religion or consistent belief system held accross Europe. Pagan Societies also did not Treat Women as Equals to Men, only for Christians to strip women of their Rights. In fact, Women were generally given Greater Rights under Christian Societies than in Pagan Societies. Pagans also did not have a positive view toward Witchcraft, and Witches were not an integral part of Pagan Religious Practice. The idea that Women who Knew about Herbal Healing and who helped cure the sick were viewed as Witches and executed by The Church is silly nonsense. The Christians did not view Herbal Healing as Witchcraft. In fact, Medieval Christians Thought Witches did not exist. Witchcraft was more associated wit a different sort of Herbal Remedy. Namely Hallucinogenic Herbs which cause Visions. In other words, they understood Witchcraft in The Bible as Drug Use, not actual Magic. There as also no Central figure known as "The Goddess" in European Pagan Societies.
The true evil was committed by a hierarchy of men in the name of god. These men claimed to be Christians but were the least christ like people of their era.
But the scariest part is, they'd never recognize that. We're seeing this again with the rise of right-wing Christian fundamentalism here in the States. The more we call them out on their hypocrisy and misogyny, the more they feel justified in what they're doing because "The world being against us means we're doing God's work and the End Times are near." These are frightening times for everyone who isn't a radical right-winger, but especially for women and Pagans. May the Goddess and the God help us. Blessed be.
@@AliciaNyblade your so right, its really rather frightening, add into that another Abrahamic religion that would like to behead us for not fitting their mold then it gets even more frightening
@@lpm67 Honestly, out of the three Abrahamic religions, Judaism seems the most chill. From what I know of it, it doesn't feature proselytizing, it encourages its practitioners to debate and ask questions about the religion and its beliefs, and the conversion process is a long one to make sure people REALLY want to enter the faith. As for Muslims, only the extremists obviously are the "Behead anybody who's not like us" types, just like the craziest Christians were/are the ones calling for supposed witches to be hanged or burned. Religion is like everything else in life: Certain faiths are neither good nor bad in and of themselves. What particular followers do with that religion determines its impact.
There are many amazing woman working to educate the world about the type of ignorance that continues to haunt our society regarding religion and sexuality
Fantastic documentary, the second in a wonderful three-part series about historic paganism and witchcraft and how they're being rediscovered in modern times. It's a pity, though, that the comments section reveals we still have a long way to go, with so many writing things like, "This is just inaccurate propaganda from feminists and New Agers." Embracing spirituality and societal ideas which honor the earth, the feminine, and strive for egalitarianism to do so has been around long before the 20th century terms of "feminism" and "New Age practices". And also, yes, the horrible things in this documentary did indeed happen and they need to be addressed. Those who come up with conspiracies to avoid accepting it are the ones, ironically, spreading propaganda. May the souls of all who perished in the Burning Times now be recovering toward healing and peace, may the souls of those who accused and persecuted them be learning better and to forgive themselves, and may all who come to this documentary with open hearts and minds be blessed on whatever path they walk. Blessed be. + )O(
Wow! What a GREAT writer u are! Succinctly & perfectly stated, we can still see the remnants of what happened during the Burning Times, NOW! Anyone who thinks Christianity & being a Chriatian are the same, is WRONG! CHRISTIANITY produced the Inquisition & the priests who are STILL propagating evil in this world, under the guise of the "CHURCH," ie the rape and cover up of millions of children and countless murders around the world! CHRISTIAN is believing in Jesus & the practice & doctrine of peace & love...period!
@@darlenejosephjones1428 Thanks. I'm glad you liked my comment. And I agree that there's absolutely a difference between being a Christian and being a member of one of Christianity's fundamentalist churches, Catholic or Protestant. While there can be some lovely Christian churches and individuals, the great hypocrisies in others are what made me eventually leave the religion altogether. And, funnily enough, I find now as a practicing Wiccan that there are many more Christ-like people in the Pagan/New Age communities than the people whose religion bears his name.
@@darlenejosephjones1428 I can’t speak for the rest of the world but being a Christian in America is certainly not popular. Our culture seems to protect every other religion from ridicule except Christianity. It certainly is an interesting time to be alive and try to understand the right perspective of our times and place in history.
Thank you for documenting this history. In these strange not dissimilar times it really hit home to me the true horror and reality of those times. Though I knew about them I hadn't realised they had carried on for such a long period of time, nor the extent they had closed paganism down. I think because of the awful manipulation going on in the world at the moment, it really resonated with me. I have cried for our female ancestors and their families. Halloween will now be a time of remembrance for me. Namaste
Reclaiming our ancestors is honouring them and their ways. I have at the grand old age of 46 started studying celt and norse mythology. The beginning of the new celtic year in the Northern hemisphere begins with Samhain remembering the ancestors. I've been practicing for only a couple of years at celebrating the equinoxes/ solstices. I reclaim the word witch as the cailleach meaning veiled one. Much love and blessings to you xx
As for the "new generation of witches"; We are the reincarnated of those persecuted past. We are here to reclaim our power!! For the reclamation of our birth right!! To those who remember, to those who are starting to remember; NEVER AGAIN forget who you are!!!! Stand with me & fight! Fight not with death nor with hate, but with life!!! Stand strong, learn ALL you can, follow the desire of you soul, & NEVER, ever give up!!
Not to dismiss the contributions and tribulations of our witch ancestors, but many of people targeted by the Inquisition and the witch hunts were devout Christians who were a financial burden on the community, or were widows who owned desirable properties. And the midwives who were killed so that the newly created medical profession could take over.
Fascinating documentary. I'm writing a series about a girl who's a witch and there's a lot about ancestry that I reference throughout my stories. This helps a lot in my research. I also, as a Catholic Christian, found it interesting when they talked about people embracing the Christian faith while practicing the old traditions. That's actually part of a story I'm working on right now so finding this documentary was perfect.
Merry Meet!! I too, follow both paths, both as a Pagan and as a bishop in my church, Thankfully I am left in peace to worship as I please--I've never received any hassle from the other bishops. Being lesbian and a monastic, I see Christ as my Bride (the Bridgegroom will NOT work for me). Ironically, I found the following in the writings of a very traditional Orthodox bishop (he has since been canonized). This is the passage, which I remember clearly, even almost thirty years after reading it: "If women who wish to dedicate their lives to Christ can call Him their Bridegroom, why cannot men who wish to do similarly call Her their Bridegroom?" This really opened doors for me (thank you St. John). And another of his statement also broadened my horizons: "in actuality God is not any gender". So he has helped to make following a dual path much easier. Ironically, I was started on this path by my bishop at the time who suggested for me to read up on the great Mother. I think it was a way for him to blow off my (IMO) very pertinent criticisms of the Orthodox Church's misogyny. I did follow his advice and it led me to where I am today. If you wonder about my veiling, I am in Great Schema and I also veil in honour of the Crone. I am glad to see I am not the only one following a dual path! Merry Part!
My grandmother came from a village near Florence Italy and went to mass each Sunday. But she also practiced what in Italy was called 'the old religion'. She could remove the malocchio and was called upon by all our family and friends to do so.
This has enlightened me, I'm taking a religion and witchcraft class in college, women may have had more social progress if there was not a "witch hunt"
Exactly the reason for the witch hunts, to undermine the equal value of women with men. 6th century Pope Gregory conflated Mary Magdalene, a disciple of Jesus and possibly his wife, with a prostitute to diminish her and all women.
Same! I’m also taking a religion and witchcraft class, and it’s completely blowing my mind. I can’t believe the extent of what the church did. So crazy. So fucked up.
Richard i am glad you are taking a class in this area. please would you be able to know why women were the only ones practicing witchcraft? why were no men involved
@@afiaakos6937 Women being the child bearers & feeders & raisers, were more home-bound naturally. The gatherers. As gatherers, they learned about herbs & their various uses... for food & medicine. Thus, it's natural they were herbalists & healers. Males were out on hunts. The hunters.
My Great-Grandmother's house was burned because she was a "witch." She barely got out alive. She was an old-school folk healer or wise woman. She was even a Christian! But because echinacea is good for colds and a certain prayer is supposed to be said over the very ill at certain times, she must be a witch.
If Sikhs saw these acts of torturing innocent women we’d fight with our swords (kirpan)for these innocent women’s lives the devil only devils were those priests in the churches those who were in the high end of the table
Having hair or not having hair when you are a woman has much different meaning now. In these days having no hair to many women means power rather than shame
There never were any witches, there were only women! They burned women, not witches. The procecusion of women, rooted in the Old European Culture (enduring until 450 in Scandinavia), already started in patriarchal era, which in Scandinavia was the Late, 2nd Pagan Era of the Vikings(Odin and Thor) ....
This time in history signified the split between left brain and right brain thinking, between logic and intuition, math and wisdom, astronomy and astrology; these two halves were once one whole.
This gives me a lot of hope as a young witch. Even though there was once a time where we were systemically tortured and killed for our practices. Be strong and stand tall. By the way, stop the woman hating it does you no good. It just proves your ignorance the same ignorance that caused this.
There may be a few people alive today who actually went through this. I've seen several references stating that witchcraft was banned in the third Reich. But none of them say if the nazis actually took any action regarding this. As trigger happy as the nazis were, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the SS hunted down pagans. This could easily be overshadowed by the enormous crimes the nazis committed, such as the invasion of the Soviet Union and the holocaust. This could have been a useful tool for the nazis to wipe out the cultures of the lands they invaded, such as the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, and even Russia. It's definitely something to look into. As an aside, it seems at least possible that the Soviets might have been involved in witch hunting as well more as a side effect of their general totalitarianism. And let's not forget many Trump supporters want to bring back the inquisition as well.
NFB of Canada comes through again lol. Especially considering this was 1990 it was very well produced. I also recently watched Paddle to the Sea which I haven't seen since I was a kid. You have a way of captivating. Thank you.
The first thing to be clear about is that it was Christianity who condemned the word 'witch'; otherwise, it was one of the most respected words, as respected as 'mystic' - a wise man. It simply meant a wise woman, the parallel to a wise man. But in the Middle Ages, Christianity came to face a danger. There were thousands of women who were far wiser than the bishops and the cardinals and the pope. They knew the art of transforming people's lives. Their whole philosophy was based on love and transformation of sexual energy - and a woman can do that more easily than a man. After all, she is a mother and she is always a mother. Even a small baby girl has the quality of motherliness. The quality of motherliness is not something connected with age, it is part of womanhood. And the transformation needs a very loving atmosphere, a very motherly transfer of energies. To Christianity, it was a competitor. Christianity has nothing to offer in comparison to it - but Christianity was in power. It was a man's world up to then; and they decided to destroy all witches. But how to destroy them? It was not a question of killing one woman but thousands of women. So a special court was created for enquiry, to find out who was a witch. Any woman said by Christians to have had an influence on people and who people respected was caught and tortured - so much so, that she had to confess. They wouldn't stop torturing her until she confessed that she was a witch. And according to the Christian mind, to Christian theology, the meaning of witch was changed: a witch is one who is having a sexual relationship with the devil. You don't hear any more of any devil having a relationship with any woman. Either the devil has become a Christian monk, a celibate, or... what has happened to the devil? Who was it that was having sexual relationships with thousands of women? And these women were mostly old women. It doesn't seem to be rational. When young and beautiful women were available, why should the devil go to the old, the very old women? But to become a witch, it was a long training, a long discipline, a long experience. So by the time a woman was a witch - a wise woman - she was old; she had sacrificed everything to attain that wisdom, that alchemy. They forced these poor old women into saying that they were having sexual intercourse with the devil. Many of them tried hard... but the torture was too much. When my back had gone bad, Devaraj and other sannyasins trained in bodywork started traction on me. And I enquired, "What is traction? How was it invented?" They had no idea. It was invented in the Middle Ages by Christians to torture the witches - to pull their bodies from both ends and to go on pulling to a point where it became unbearable. Many became unconscious; many died on their traction machine. But, by the way, it was found that many old women who were put into traction had had a back problem; when they got out of it, the back problem had disappeared. So now Christians don't use it, but doctors do. Now it is part of the medical world. They tortured these women in many ugly ways, just for one thing: they should confess. The women continued to try to say that they had nothing to do with the devil, that there was nothing to confess. But nobody listened to them; they went on torturing them. You can make anybody confess anything if you go on torturing him. A point comes when he feels it is better to confess rather than to unnecessarily suffer the same torture every day. And it would have continued for his whole life. Once a woman confessed that she was a witch and was having a sexual relationship with the devil, her torture was stopped and then she was presented before a court - a special court made by the pope - and before the court she was to now confess. And once she confessed before the court, the court was able to punish her - because it is the greatest crime in the eyes of Christianity. In fact, even if the woman was having a sexual relationship with the devil, it is none of the business of anybody else - and it is not a crime, because she is not harming anybody. And the devil has never complained to any police station, "That woman is dangerous." On what authority was Christianity burning these women? The only punishment was to be burned alive so that no other woman dared to be a witch again. They destroyed thousands of women and completely removed a very significant part of humanity. And the wisdom that those women contained - their books, their methods, their techniques of transforming man, transforming man's energy.... So the first thing to be understood is: don't think that witch is a bad word. It is more respectable than 'pope' - because I don't think a pope is a man who can be called wise; they are just parrots and nothing else. It is possible that it may be connected with your past life, and the wound has been so deep that still some remembrance in your unconscious goes on reminding you. And that creates the hate for men, because what was done to you was done by men. So it is a simple association, but that association has to be dropped. It was not done by men, it was done by Christians. And the Christians have done so many crimes, and they go on doing them. It is unbelievable. -by Osho
Years ago, my godson would refer too me as a witch, "Finally, I told him that since witch came from the Anglo Saxon term meaning to bend or shape and thay I must be a witch because I had a talent for bending men all out of shape. Never heard anything about that again from him.
Here's an example of the mind-set of the people in those days: > The KJV was 'authorized' by the same guy that wrote 'Daemonologie,' just a few years previous to this bible's release. #NorthBerwickWitchTrials #KingJames King James I: the king who hunted witches. The witch-hunts that swept across Europe from 1450 to 1750 were among the most controversial and terrifying phenomena in history - holocausts of their times. #religion #ignorance
that’s a very outdated belief with no evidence and most if not all historians today agree that the number of people killed in the witch hunt was around 50.000, for sure no more than 100.000, so that’s why you didn’t know!
That novel was pure shit better read Shinsekai Yori, Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk and most importantly Blade of the Immortal if you want really well written female characters And Umineko if you want Witch Empowerment
So heartbreaking. I felt sick while watching and determined to set out on a visual and musical art project this year to honor my ancestors. I am about to release a music video for Patriarchy Song, which, like this video, has been banned in a way from Facebook: the thumbnail won’t auto populate. The image I’ve been circulating from the upcoming video has also been banned on Facebook; it features myself in a witch hat. The patriarchy is still very powerful and very lethal. We must continue to fight.
+silversobe yes some religions have this effect when not balanced in theory, fact and spirituality . The interpretation that people lend to scripture is not always accurate. Religion also offers comfort, aid and support to many on many levels. Knowledge too satisfies are love of learning , information, order curiosity. Therefore respect for this is essential to our humanity too.
I have done more than read the bible,.. i have read many great works of literature that explore religion,, Watched many films based on stories or investigation of this ideology+spirituality..,,Art on ceilings++ was inspired by this religion. Reveals more. In fact all these works of human expression would never have been written, produced if the authors had not studied or resourced the bible... In the past some of these literary works , including discussions on atheism,,, arose because of the bible,, Ideologies and opposition to them live as a healthy exploration of all we may be and what we may think and feel. ..When religion grows extreme in the interpretation or crusades through streets as a conqueror ,,, turns into a force for the combative or a convenient escape, an opium ,, over an expression or comfort, aid to balance, good works, then we know we are faulted as individuals and a society for turning so easily towards a false sense of what religion is meant to do for us. There are always those who will prey on belief systems for personal gain,, use religion as a vehicle for their own machinations. Escaping too fully down the path of dreams, faith ,,,usually occurs when hope is floundering. When a complex series of hits takes it toll on us. There are people that live to take advantage of this. YIKes. But then Recently Harry Potter only got taken out of schools. Some even removed this work from shelves...We spoke and protested in return and changes in thought came about. Yes, it was frightening though.. but then better to be a watchtower and voice than an abolitionist/silencer/cleanser that removes Christian and Islam faiths from the world. This is not a love of knowledge approach at all. No, i am not Christian and much of what I have seen and heard of the Koran makes me feel we need to be so vigilant,,, no trust, guarded. I resent this and hope that those of that faith will fight with us rather than push harder ,, all religions must evolve for the people.for the good. But then like-minded people are allowed to gather around a peaceful idea and protest as long as there is no condemning or racism,, otherwise we become the very thing we want to stop,,, Knowledge comes in many packages. ,,,some happen to be religious,,, I hope this is enough for you.
The Christian bible has parts distorted, misinterpreted, mistranslated, excluded and included. Some of its teachings were only for those times and places.
People not matter the time, the place the incident seek to understand their world and the events that occur,, Perfect. We devise stories, we permeate with fact we surmise and categorize. it is part of our nature, We are products of time and place , tools and perceptions ,,existing in our space. It's called "Tango to Evora" by Loreena McKennitt. Writing and performing the music for this documentary trilogy was one of Loreena's first big breaks and she would repurpose some of the pieces into future albums.
I was told by many other religions it isnt safe to add god like figures or mixing with other god like figures into my home I also never knew about what a christian witch was although i have heard of it.but after watching this video It gave me some insight I really felt the connection of those woman who were so brave to endure the peoples torture I pray for the victims and to the ones who did the blaming the accusations and forcing because in my mind they were victims too. so shall it be!
The christians to gain hold over pagans ,wiccans, and others would make up a holiday next to a pagan or wiccan sabbat and then say we watched your celebration now come see ours. For instance they put easter next to esther and halloween next to all saints day and yule is right before when they say christ was born. The bell book and candle from witchcraft was adopted into the christian faith. Many witches would use mary as the goddess and jesus as the pagan god in the old days. If you research the different beliefs you will see that Christianity cam from zorosterism where the snake god is good. I know you did not ask for this but it is yours because of your last sentence you wrote. Blessed Be

I am very much not religious, but do have a warm spot in my heart for Wicca and tears of sympathy for all those who died. There are those who would kill again, if permitted. I would fight with those who stand to prevent it. There were those who would bring the holocaust back too and I would have the same response...
It may now be the time that we must all fight. Misogyny masquerading as "Christianity" is now being exalted in society. It is as some in power wants the dark days to come back...
I'm not sure when this was originally produced, but it's no longer true that there are no monuments to the victims of the witch hunts. There's a monument in Salem, Massachusetts, with the names of the twenty people who were killed by the church in 1692.
+John Anderson - What? The R.C. Church kept records and they were used to make the doc. There's a museum in Europe that still is open to the public showing how they tortured women.
This documentary has several inaccuracies which have been documented on Wikipedia. It's unfortunate because the hysterical torture and murder of tens of thousands of women and suppression of non-Christian beliefs is a horrible thing that should be frequently talked about.
The Holy Trinity encompasses all of the genders humans have. God, our Creator, is not either male or female; God is both. Jesus existed on Earth as a human male. The Holy Spirit is female. I start the Jesus prayer as; “Our Father and Mother, who art in Heaven…”

Natternkopf Sonnenkönig a great deal of the "witches" accused were actually wealthy jewish people....jews in europe had it rough...accusing someone of witchery/demon worship was a way to get their money and land

So sad!! It's disgusting what happend back then. Especially because those who accused, tortured and burned or killed those 'witches' because they 'worshipped the devil' and therefore must be killed. But they don't even believe in god or satan. So how can they even be evil worshippers?! They were good, their goal was to help people and do other kinds of good things. But the worst thing is that even innocent people started to also get accused. I just don't know what to say about it. Now I truly see christianity as an wrong and destructive religion. Even though nowadays they act as if that's not the case. No matter how much they will try to cover all of this up, I'm sure it'll never be forgotten, and that it will never be possible to cover all of this up completely.

The music at the opening is by someone you may have heard about since she became famous in 1990s. Loreena McKennitt. I believe this particular song comes from her albums/CD before she was famous, either on the Parallel Dreams ablum.
It would benefit people to cross-reference the claims made in this documentary. Many of the claims made in this film are not backed by fact. One glaring example is that the town of Trie is in Germany and not France. The stone in the town square was erected in the 12th century, not the 10th.
Yeah, a lot of this documentary seems to be more artistic than historical, they make very generalized statements about things that happened over thousands of years and continents, and you can't see their sources. Another thing that is just incorrect is them portraying the Iron Maiden as a torture device in use when it was a 19th century invention never actually used .In short, some of what they say could be correct, but don't trust something just because it's in a documentary and spoken in an educated sound twangy voice
If you want to read an amazing book about Sexuality, read a book written by Rachel Halder called Sacred Sexy and Whole she has a Masters degree in Theology and she has studied all the references in the bible pertaining to sexuality and sexual beliefs ( I recommend her book as it includes information about healing trauma from emotional and sexual abuse )
I saw this originally on TV, with the episode 'Goddess Remembered'', and not the episode 'Full Circle'. I never thought of it then as being anti men feminism, stereotyping, and other such points.
One of the best documentaries I've seen on witches was from an old vhs series called "world of the supernatural" by Time Life (no longer exists). It had several volumes about stuff like voodoo, angels, alchemy, monsters, prophesy, and a few others including a volume called "the witch hunt". One of the women interviewed in that episode mentions specifically how it was partially a world of women's quarrels because it was largely women accusing other women, and that we shouldn't think of this as women lined up on one side with men on the other. Sadly, I cannot find that vol. on you tube, only feminist propaganda :(
It was perhaps women who often were accusers of other women, bit it was the Patriarchy whichhe enabled and indeed carried out the witch hunts and witch urders.

I share this documentary often, and I watched it a few times. This is one of the better documentaries. Tho I have a little worry that people would think this is about "evil men" and not about "evil foreign ideology brought by foreigners". Because the documentary says : when the christians "came.
it is indeed about evil men of all times and all places, you see the sad truth is that most of today's 'good men' would have done what these men did in a similar situation in a similar age, in the end it's a story about society's norm versus individual instinctive ethics
@@tinahassani2065 I like that you found my comment and gave attention to it. I can see why people make it a "evil men" thing. That is why I made the comment. There is a problem that doesn't get too much attention in this video, and if you listen to the people in the video closely, they will give you a hint, but then pull back and make things vague, maybe because they don't know, or on purpose. It's like you're getting presented a problem, but the wrong tools to solve it. And that is one reason why there's so much wars and suffering in the world. I would encourage you to help solving a very old problem. And the problem is not gender. Here's a clue to what I am talking about. epistolae.ctl.columbia.edu/letter/947.html
@@Newwaver2007 Hi, thanks for the reply. I have read the poem/letter which is quite beautiful, it also led me to research about queen Radegund the author of the letter.. But I didn't understand what you mean, would you be more specific?
@Tina Hassani Thank you for looking into it. I would love giving you history on a plate, and say : this happened it's that. And I could, but I come to my conclusions to this, and it is you who needs to be convinced yourself. I can however give you things to look into and encourage you to draw conclusions from that. Even if we might end up not agreeing, at least I shared my views on it. :) History isn't given to us people specific, it goes trough patterns. If history got written specific and it would all be 100% dead on truth, many history books would never become published. I know that trough looking into history. And I am not a historian, but I can see patterns and connect dots. And I'm not the only one looking into history this way. Well, you know, Witches were not only female. Where I am from, people got burned to the stake if they didn't convert to the cross and bow down for the yaweh. And yaweh, if you look it up, that's a foreign thing for us. Our days and countries are even named after goddesses and gods. Maybe if you look up the "salem" witch trials. You might have gotten the hint with "salem" what's in the middle east and has the same sort of name? The letter is about a genocide of the indigenous people. the "men of a hostile faith" are those who are not of ours because they are loyal to...(see :yaweh) Tho we were told a lot that we were "sinful savages who didn't know anything and stuff" before they came to convert us. Alarm bells should ring in your mind thinking about isis etc.. There's no honor in gender division, it's totally foreign to me. We're both needed to make the future. And we live trough our children. And our ancestors run trough our blood. We celebrate our ancestors (blood) and we celebrate our nature (soil). The problem is, many people are being fooled into thinking like foreigners and they don't value things that our ancestors and Radegund held so dear. And the thinking like foreigners makes it very difficult to get back to our natural way of living.

How horrific!
They are still murdering Witches in India 😢
What?! I don’t know why I’m surprised. I really don’t.
The very last sentence: " Being spiritual doesn't buy you out on doing the nitty-gritty work that needs to be done."
That's a very powerful way to finish such a magnificent documentary.
"i honestly feel sometimes as if we are in the opening scenes of "The Handmaid's Tale"."
If that is the case, when has the human race *not* been on the verge of turning into "A Handmaid's Tale"?
There has been *NO* age in human history when Women have had it better, and I say that as a trained historian (FWIW).

That's why we need historians such as the folks who put together this fine documentary!! Modern historians for the most part are not ideologically biased to any great extent: they pursue what REALLY happened, instead of just swallowing the "official" version of history, which is usually not all that accurate in some very important aspects.
Blessed be.

As for Muslims, only the extremists obviously are the "Behead anybody who's not like us" types, just like the craziest Christians were/are the ones calling for supposed witches to be hanged or burned. Fantastic documentary, the second in a wonderful three-part series about historic paganism and witchcraft and how they're being rediscovered in modern times. It's a pity, though, that the comments section reveals we still have a long way to go, with so many writing things like, "This is just inaccurate propaganda from feminists and New Agers."
Embracing spirituality and societal ideas which honor the earth, the feminine, and strive for egalitarianism to do so has been around long before the 20th century terms of "feminism" and "New Age practices".

Merry Part!

YIKes.
But then
Recently Harry Potter only got taken out of schools.

The song at 54:28 at the end of this - is there a name for that song? Or does anyone know anything about it? It's so beautiful.
lalala;ala;alaaa
It's called "Tango to Evora" by Loreena McKennitt. Writing and performing the music for this documentary trilogy was one of Loreena's first big breaks and she would repurpose some of the pieces into future albums.
Finally i found one with well suited music
Blessed Be
Thank you for uploading this ! Very interesting and thought provoking
As a practicing witch, I am on a personal mission to empower spiritual practitioners, especially women. I have an organization called Divine Warriors and we gather every Sabbat to celebrate the Wheel of the year and teach Magick and empowerment.
Angelbunny do you have a Facebook group?
I was born Sam hain at midnight thirty ,I am mediumistic have always had a strong connection with the witch, it comes down the corridors of time, through the generations appertaining to seers ,mediums!
"Thou shalt not kill, as long as they're not an infidel."
that s all BS thou shalt not kill means you cannot kill anyone or anything. Only true Buddhists do this. Tibet is the only country in the world that stopped having an army as they truly live what they believe and Buddhism is not a religion either. They do not believe in a God
Tibet "stopped" having an army with a little help from the Chinese who also helpfully annexed the country. Buddhism has a long history of violence, the Rohingya are finding this out the hard way.
@@taragreenetarotastrologyre4945 Buddhism is a religion. Not only does Buddhism have gods, but Ateism is not the same as rejection of Religion as Atheistgi Religions do exist. Also, buddhists have killed.
As opposed to Pagans who killed people?

Summary. The Doctrine of Discovery established a spiritual, political, and legal justification for colonization and seizure of land not inhabited by Christians.
The scene at 2:37 is pure cinema.
God, this is so beautiful but so painfully tragic to watch 😢😢
I am an ethical person. I'm also a lifelong Satanists. From my perspective, I cannot imagine why any aware and respectable woman would want to be Christian
Damn. The parallels between the early Christians and the modern day extreme conservatives...
Hey NFB, are you planning to upload Full Circle?
I'm not sure when this was originally produced, but it's no longer true that there are no monuments to the victims of the witch hunts. There's a monument in Salem, Massachusetts, with the names of the twenty people who were killed by the church in 1692.
Copyright 1990. It's my understanding they are referring to the hundreds of thousands killed in Europe over a 300 year span.
Amazing. Glad to see this again!
fascinating film
+John Anderson - What? The R.C. Church kept records and they were used to make the doc. There's a museum in Europe that still is open to the public showing how they tortured women.
This documentary has several inaccuracies which have been documented on Wikipedia. It's unfortunate because the hysterical torture and murder of tens of thousands of women and suppression of non-Christian beliefs is a horrible thing that should be frequently talked about.
Who sings the backround music? I must have it.......
Matthew Fox wrote over 25 books, two I recall and have read parts of are The Original Blessing, and The Coming of the Cosmic Christ .
Omits many of Mary's names/ titles. Morning Star etc, light bearer!
i love knowing the Goddess and the God in one Its much easier ...I bless my Mother I am happy to be a Wise woman and to be in Love with Mother
The Holy Trinity encompasses all of the genders humans have. God, our Creator, is not either male or female; God is both. Jesus existed on Earth as a human male. The Holy Spirit is female. I start the Jesus prayer as; “Our Father and Mother, who art in Heaven…”
@@sandrastreifel6452 yes ❤
Does anyone know the music track name during the Joan of Arc segment? I know the music is mostly by Loreena Mckennitt.
I show this (about 15 minutes) before we read The Crucible. We also talk about superstition and The Burning Times in Europe.
Thanks for sharing.!

Bloody Queen Mary also did a lot of the old burny burny on them cheeky Protestants
Remember when ER I had hundreds of men hung, drawn and quartered? H VIII executed a minimum of 70,000 men, women and children after the Progress of Peace. The worst witch burnings were in Protestant England, Germany and Northern Europe. Puritans brought their witch trials to the new world.

Does anyone know where i would find a link to that definition of Hag? 33:34
www.google.com/search?q=hag%3A+definition&rlz=1C1AVSX_enCA831CA831&oq=hag%3A+definition&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i58.3767j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 - in olden times, "hag" specificially meant an old woman with spiritual abilities such as witchcraft or being associated with fairies or spirits. As belief in witchcraft diminished, it just came to mean an old, shriveled-up woman.
"hag"' is taken fro the Greek "Hagios", meaning "Holy".

Dress it up as you like the Witch burnings were Human sacrifices to the Christian god.
or perhaps the sacrifice of any opposition to the power take over...this theme gets repeated through history to today :(
Natternkopf Sonnenkönig a great deal of the "witches" accused were actually wealthy jewish people....jews in europe had it rough...accusing someone of witchery/demon worship was a way to get their money and land
Phoenix, murdering Jews as "witches", to confiscate their wealth, was happening in Spain only, as far as I know;
BTW, there were many Jews in Slavic countries, but I haven't heard of them being murdered as witches
They would have got me for sure I'm a loner and walk around the 🏡 naked
I'm from braSil and I never heard about this "society of alejo". Does someone know where i could get informations about it?

That is Starhawk. She is an activist and wrote several books including, "The Spiral Dance." It is an excellent book for learning about eco-feminism paganism : )

Does anyone know the music from the first scene at Bath?
Trier isn't in France but it is in Germany en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trier
For Samhaim I've been seeking any positive images of Witches. You're it. All organized religions are the states religions.
If you want to read an amazing book about Sexuality, read a book written by Rachel Halder called Sacred Sexy and Whole
she has a Masters degree in Theology and she has studied all the references in the bible pertaining to sexuality and sexual beliefs ( I recommend her book as it includes information about healing trauma from emotional and sexual abuse )
Sadly, I cannot find that vol. on you tube, only feminist propaganda :(
@@WhatIsMisophonia Even if women did accuse others, it's because far too many women line up with the Patriarchy even today.
It was perhaps women who often were accusers of other women, bit it was the Patriarchy whichhe enabled and indeed carried out the witch hunts and witch urders.
I'm sure we all know that 2nd part!

History isn't given to us people specific, it goes trough patterns.
The letter is about a genocide of the indigenous people.
the "men of a hostile faith" are those who are not of ours because they are loyal to...(see :yaweh)
Tho we were told a lot that we were "sinful savages who didn't know anything and stuff" before they came to convert us.
