If you go back to his oldest videos it’s pretty obvious that he was imitating/heavily inspired by Rubberfruit. Over time however, his style has transformed into a wholly unique and utterly demented form of surrealism, combined with his gmod skills growing increasingly untouchable.
This genre may be a small pond, but Eltorro is the king of it.

I love the trope in these kinds of videos of just the mercs wheezing out every last bit of air in their lungs with laughter.
Something that I think is rarely appreciated about these animations is that the movement and the sound design both come together to make it seem like the mercs are made out of rubber

@@chiflika9710 I don't know about the "rubbery & cartoonish" part when it comes to STBlackST. But I agree that he is up there in terms of animation.
This is a little something called Stop Motion, and all Garry's Mod animations use it. You can get better at it with practice. :)
SFM has a ton of built-in animation shortcuts, hence why people with less overall talent can make decent animations with it.
Making something like this in Garry's Mod takes true animation skill.

I like how the Snoiper is playing a game of pool with a sniper rifle and a baseball, and uses the baseball to knock down all 10 pins, while playing chess with Heavy Hand.

I feel like this is the "apex" of gmod/sfm animation. The base stuff is still there like sliding on the ground and strange faces, but the animation has reached a perfect level of fluidity.
and eltorro will continue to make the apex even higher
Part of the fun is in the lack of fluidity usually but this is great so idc
@@thinkublu Goodness knows what exactly the subtle differences are, but there's just something about gmod homegrown smooth animation that still just looks so appealing compared to SFM "hollywood" out-the-box smooth animation (not to discredit the many talented SFM artists out there, but they're just totally different vibes and I have a preference for gmod, especially for dada humour videos like eltorro's).
I know right? The only other animator who even comes close to this level of clean, rubbery, & cartoonish GMod animation (in my opinion) is That Gray Cartoon Pony.
No one is talking about the amazing sound design? The rubber stretching sounds that engineer makes combined will all the little sound effects of every merc completely sell the exaggerated designs. (Witch are astounding btw.)
There are too much sweet high-effort details. Amasingly smooth animation, morphing and stretching models, sound works, background props, plot... not MLP "plot" but close to it.

I love how Elterro always just puts random shit everywhere in the background to the point where you can't even tell what map he's using half the time.

@@casualbird7671 Judging by shots from 0:11; 0:27; 0:36 I can only deduce that it's Frontier. It is one of the few maps where you can be pushed off the edge and that said edge has a round shape. The sky and background forest textures match and so does the gravel ground texture. Only one map matches all the criteria, assuming that Elterro didn't use multiple maps or a modified map for his animation.
when the bowling pins fall, we get a shot of the pins falling, cut to the next shot and we see the bowling pins landing on the pool table even tho they fell down and the table is logically above
so the table and everyone else somehow teleported downward before the bowling pins could land

pl frontier, on top of the spiral at the bottom of the hill after blu passes point one, and the entrance to the first floor of the shack halfway up the hill (the one the engineers defend from at the top of the stairs).
its crazy to see how much consideration is put into each frame, like the placement of blue pipes behind soldier's head at 0:19 to trick the eye into thinking his shoulders are still there only to pan out to confuse the viewer even more which only enforces this insane atmosphere you've already perfected

Great touch when Sniper knocks the bowling pins down the cliff, but then they drop down from above. Like this is a weird recursive place where things just loop back up to the sky if they fall.
So cool how Eltorro adds these quirky details that you might not notice under the main jokes!
