Its a good idea to sand the head and cylinder surface on 600 grit sandpaper wet lying on a piece of flat glass to find the bad spots in the surface. If they arent that bad you can sand them flat without hurting anything. following a figure 8 pattern will make sure you wont create any high spots or low spots.
Yes the gasket on the carburetor.,or exhaust leak to. I think it's the water pump impeller.& Loosened up rockers from the initial break in reasons alone. It's A known fact that they can loosen up from those reasons.
This is why my garage is full of 2-smokes!! Gunner to ride and low maintenance. We rip em all wkend, wash em, and put em back 44:08 in the trailer so they all are ready for our next ride
I'd replace the water pump impeller & key way.,or moon key way.,or just order in A new water pump for it to. That is the main issues that caused that to happen to that engine overheated from A bad water pump. Those engines are known for doing that Joe. Seriously if you replace part it'll run right again for you with no problems afterwards to.
hey, just wondering if somebody could answer my question. at 21:39 , the reserve gaz was blue , but at 21:59 , the ON position gaz was like yellow... why ???
Yeah bad head gaskets or cracked/microcracked cylinders and heads doesn't always mean coolant will mix into the oil or oil into the coolant. Funny you had it before and didn't realize it, go through so many vehicles & motos I've been waiting for/wondering if or when that'll to happen to me too lol. 🤙
Right guys. This one was clearly burning the coolant in the combustion chamber. There may be a leak at the water pump letting coolant into the oil. Joe should rebuild it and give it back for free!
feels like what our yfz450 has... no cooling in oil but coolant leaking on the out side of the engine... cause different head and we didnt resurface it...
Y’all are crazy… he had this thing it looks like 11 months ago. If you think it’s only been rode for a total of 15 minutes since then, I have some nice beach front property I’ll sell ya cheap here in WV.
I suspect the guy road it more than 15min, but I saw the videos 11 months ago. There is no way that quad should have been sent on down the road as a “fresh rebuild”. The head and water pump were just as trashed when he sold it as it is now.
Bummer that you didn't resurface the head the first time around. The pitting was present in the previous videos. Might have save the other guy the need to sell it back
I don't want to come off as a hater but you sold that guy a defective quad. This quad had the exact same problem as the first time you fixed it and all the comments told you to resurface the head but you didn't. He got 3 rides and it failed, at least it looked like you learned and are doing it properly this time plus your putting it on video which most people would not do. Still a great channel with good work overall.
Joe there is always someone lying about something when they are trying to sell a bad quad or bike plus you could definitely tell in his voice that he was lying about something when you would ask him questions about stuff!!! I’m pretty sure he did say that he did change the oil in it though and if you listen in the video when you was asking him questions I don’t no about you but I could tell that he was lying about something!!! Why do people have to lye about something when they are selling something???? It definitely happens every day though!!!! Awesome video and I definitely can’t weight to see it put back together when you get all the new parts!!! So you was saying that it had a new rod in it was that done before you had owned it the first time or sometime when that guy had it???
Those new style 4-stroke engines are all throwaways, from quads to MX bikes. A shame because it's an otherwise nice machine. Thanks for the cool video!

Awesome new gloves joe! What is your opinion on the grease monkey gloves? I definitely like them but soon as you get oil or water on em they get slick.
I would definitely resurface the head. But I'd say it was the head gasket for sure. And I had 2 of them heads and sold 1 a few months ago now I'm wishing i would have kept it

The water pump is what caused those issues with that four wheeler Joe. The impeller is worn out.,or there is A missing key way.,or moon key.,or the pump bearing is just shot out inside of that water pump altogether. Most likely it was the original one on it from the factory when it was sold new to.,or A replacement one that went bad over time to either one. It happens a lot on those types of engines though from Yamaha.& Suzuki & Honda & Polaris to all of them do it.
I agree about the Vin. But is there some reason why I've never seen him be openly affectionate with the pooch? I want to see him at least give him a few pats on the head or something. Hands too greasy? Would have to put down the camera? We need vin-dication.
I have not watched all of the video yet, but I just had to stop about 8 minutes in to remind you, just because there is no water on the oil doesn’t mean the head gasket is not blown
Ho Lee Chit Miss Molly. How bizarre that you owned it and sold it to him. You didn’t mention the timing sight covers that were overheated needing replaced in your estimate of parts where that magnet 🧲 went on the one. I’m following this one anxiously.
Maybe check the height of the aftermarket rod, you noticed the piston looked high compared to the top of the cylinder. These engines are ready to pumped up and made too light weight for longevity. The Cylinder wall is too thin. Maybe look into detune it. (Lowering compression) ? And resurface the head!

I totally thought the same thing, Michael was doing blaster cases, as much as Joe does he definitely needs one, plus a parts washer would be a good investment also, I watch time machines also and everything is cleaned spotless before being put back together.
Dude probably overheated it and knew it, but on a side note, you rebuild enough stuff to get your moneys worth out of a surfacing stone. That would remove any doubts on the mating surfaces from now on.
He's too stupid to use it bro!!
@@ofnaguycarlwatts8602 dude, fuck off with your punk ass bullshit. you haven't done shit but run your cock holster since you showed up. On here acting like you know it all, but proving that you don't know shit. Lol
What happened? Did Joe bone your girl or something?
Its a good idea to sand the head and cylinder surface on 600 grit sandpaper wet lying on a piece of flat glass to find the bad spots in the surface. If they arent that bad you can sand them flat without hurting anything. following a figure 8 pattern will make sure you wont create any high spots or low spots.
Check the Chain Sprocket on the Axle. When starting the machine it was moving like its loose.
It takes onions to post this video. Reminds me of the used car places in the ghetto.
head gaskets have an exhaust side and the coolant side I have seen many head gaskets blow without putting coolant in oil 💯💯
I got some in Arizona.😁
I suspect the guy road it more than 15min, but I saw the videos 11 months ago. There is no way that quad should have been sent on down the road as a “fresh rebuild”. The head and water pump were just as trashed when he sold it as it is now.
@@billd.akaevylaz754 Joe doesn't realize what he is doing to himself Brother Man!!
Bummer that you didn't resurface the head the first time around. The pitting was present in the previous videos. Might have save the other guy the need to sell it back
That rattle is the clamp on the exhaust pipe
Crazy paid more for the second time godda love
great diagnostic..
well done. I love this machine!
Sabo has a surfacing block. They arent too expensive. Be worth having one around the shop.
You put a bad gasket on head when you built it last time you had it... happens, no issues.
Those new style 4-stroke engines are all throwaways, from quads to MX bikes. A shame because it's an otherwise nice machine.
Thanks for the cool video!
throw it away then what?
@@bubster1981 go buy a new one. They are junk.
love you man! keep the perfect work! you don't have anyone who works with a lathe in your area/country? I have in Portugal if you want but it would take long to arrive, fix and send back to you.
Looks can be deceiving, the safest bet is to send the head and barrel to a machinist in your local area Joe,most can do what you need and possibly valve guides as well
It’s hard to tell on camera but I thought the clicking sound was actually the loose clamp rattling on the exhaust.
Millennium Technologies is a good place to send you’re heads off to. They did great work for me with a yz 250 head
Guy ain't got a clue in hell about that thing...nice pick!!
Awesome new gloves joe! What is your opinion on the grease monkey gloves? I definitely like them but soon as you get oil or water on em they get slick.
I like them!
They are for vagina's!!
Those impellers works just like A outboard boat motor does that's 2 stroke.& 4 stroke to.
I would definitely resurface the head. But I'd say it was the head gasket for sure. And I had 2 of them heads and sold 1 a few months ago now I'm wishing i would have kept it
wassup joe, keep up the good work brother
I appreciate the content.
If U let the Quad down from the right, you can control the decent with the front brake. : )
These videos are my therapy
Do the head yourself..wet and dry paper 800s on a piece of glass so it's flat and bit by bit sand it flat..easy
That must have been awkward buying a quad from a guy that bought it and only ridden it 3 times then it broke down already. I bet he took a big lose at least a grand or 1500

It’s the jubilee clip on the exhaust making the rattling sound
Wasn't sure at first, but have come across in example of when motor turned off after running presumably hot then when turn off motor at first temp rises a little before cooling down had coolant leaking into 1 of cylinders then lose bit of coolant into cylinder but not mixing with oil, then start next day get a misfire on cold start, turn motor off then re start misfire goes away, never come across this before....
If I bought a quad from you and it ran forn15 min and blew up and you came to buy it I would have bashed the hell out of you and called you a cheat and all . He was way to nice he knows he did it
Well. at least you saved a little $$ money on vehicle registration with the 2024 sticker 😉 Good fix Bro.
How do you get a quad into the pickup bed using those steep ramps? It looks tricky getting the quad off the truck - I can't imagine what it takes to get it onto the truck.
We just lifted it up into the truck. Front wheels first and then pick up the backe end.
I have the same ramps. Just slowly drive it up, no problem...I learned fast my first time tho...I sent it a Lil too hard n shattered my rear glass on my dodge ...was 500 miles from home n had to drive home freezing my butt off! Lesson learned...I replaced the glass myself tho. Saved some $

Hey V2 what did you sell it to him for? And how much did you originally pay, plus what u put in to it before you sold it to him.I'm just wondering how much depreciation really happens because I'm new at this? And I don't want taken advantage of.
I just went back to watch the first video he had on this Quad and the same exact problems are still there 1 year later. Pitted head and stripped cam shaft bolt.
If he is decent man, he would give back all the money he sold it for to this guy he bought back from because the that guy only rode it 3 times.
Hellva scam. I'm surprised he had the balls to post this video show of the same quad with the exact same problems
Unsubscribed.

The valves should have been correct because you worked on it last correct ???

Joe!
joe ,but he seemed like a nice ,honest boy . lol here we go again. but you did fine.
Nice looking bike unfortunate situation for it but always good content
The water pump is what caused those issues with that four wheeler Joe. The impeller is worn out.,or there is A missing key way.,or moon key.,or the pump bearing is just shot out inside of that water pump altogether. Most likely it was the original one on it from the factory when it was sold new to.,or A replacement one that went bad over time to either one. It happens a lot on those types of engines though from Yamaha.& Suzuki & Honda & Polaris to all of them do it.
Watch the videos Joe did on this quad 11 months ago. Joe replaced the water pump and it leaked on the test ride. LMAO
Great video as always
You might get lucky by just changing the impeller inside of that water pump.& The moon key way.,or just key way inside of it.
I need more of Vinnie in these videos, love the vin !!!
I agree about the Vin. But is there some reason why I've never seen him be openly affectionate with the pooch? I want to see him at least give him a few pats on the head or something. Hands too greasy? Would have to put down the camera? We need vin-dication.
Joe's Big word of the year!! Drum roll plz. Wait for it ? Miilllllkkkkyyyy! There I made a big word for you !! Out of milk!!
Check out millennium technologies there in Wisconsin. They can fix that head, re-plate cylinders and just about everything else you could ever need.
Yeah, that place looks like the way to go
The water pump impeller isn't spinning inside of the water pump do to A shred off key.,or rolled pin inside of it.
Always check all fluids on pre-owned equipment prior to running for any amount if time..
As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew that this yfz was on the channel before lol. Curious What ya sold it to him for back when you sold it
since the guy wanted 2900 originally i bet it was like 4500 joe sold it to him for then the guy rides it 3 times and joe says yeah i can only give you 1600.

I thought copper coat would have worked. I have used it before. they say a sheet of glass and sandpaper is a flat surface. Years ago, I used to 100 percent. Copper head gaskets on an over milled two stroke head and doubled the head gaskets up. It ran great for many years with high octane fuel.
