  • Hello!
Welcome to Edible Thoughts Makes. My name is Stephanie (she/her). I've been wanting to share my thoughts on mini skeins and scrappy-not-scrappy projects and thought I would compile it all into one video! I do talk about a few specific patterns but the tips and suggestions in this video apply to any project.
Closed captioning and video descriptions are included for accessibility (choose the non-auto-generated option). If HD-viewing 1080p or 720p is an option, select that for best resolution.
    Cheers!

I love your long winded explanation of why you don’t like to call them scrappy projects. It’s almost the same definition I would use when I explain that I do not have a stash of yarn, I have supplies

I love your philosophy. That gives me a whole different way to look at knitting.

Love your videos. You’re enthusiastic and a joy to see all the things i want to add to my to-do list. And you add in food ideas. What’s not to love

Thank you for a bunch of great ideas! And thank you for a succinct video. I get overwhelmed by 2 hour long videos that ramble on and on ad nauseum.

I really love the idea of knitting in tandem! I always hate having to cast on the second sock but I hate magic loop so always assumed I'd have to knit one after the other on my 9 inch circular. Genius idea. I'm even knitting a huge tube at the moment so I don't have to cast on the second sock ha ha ha

Thank you Sarah! Knitting in tandem is the only way I get a pair of socks done! It doesn’t feel like I’m starting over with a second sock and so the motivation is more consistent throughout 😆. Or at least if I “get stuck” I get stuck in the same spot on each sock.

Love this video. I have this same advent and had no idea what to do with all the different yarns, so they've just been sitting in a bowl looking pretty but not getting used. Thanks for the great ideas to use them!

I love your philosophy of "scrappy" that does sound sub-standard. To think of it as colors to add to your palette is a much more positive way to think of it. I love those pink and peach patchwork socks. What heel type did you use? Very pretty.

Thank you Chelle! I did a garter heel flap instead of a slipped stitch heel flap on that pair!

Lovely new episode Stephanie! I totally relate to a lot of what you are saying. I love using the remainder of my yarns to add new pops of colour to other projects. I really enjoyed the paint analogy too! Excited to see all the projects you make with your advent minis!

Thank you so much Natasha! I really enjoyed our little chat this morning. It was nice to talk through ponderings with you - almost as if we were at a coffee shop knitting on socks and enjoying a conversation with hot beverages (maybe one day!). Watched your latest episode and now I my eye on your latest design with minis so maybe a grouping of my minis will have to be set aside for that....!

@@EdibleThoughtsMakes Oh that makes me so happy, I think it would look beautiful in one of those mini skein combos you shared! It did feel like we were knitting together, especially since we both watched each others podcasts too! So fun to connect with you like this Stephanie.

All of your not-scrappy scrappy socks are so cute! Haha, I don't know what another word is! I always think of using odds n' ends as painting and say I'm doodling when I'm knitting with a palette more than a pattern. Such a fun episode!

Thank you so much Mckenzie! I guess scrappy isn't like a "bad" word or anything so maybe I just need to just get over it lol. YES to doodling and colors from a palette!!

I *LOVE* those fingerless mittens. So cute! One of my current projects is a granny square blanket because I can pull out completed squares and I wanted something smaller than the other twin blanket I'm working on. It started as a way to use up yarn I already had but I keep buying yarn to complete it 😂

Scrappy would come from quilters as we are known for saving scraps of fabric from any and all projects. Like some of the knit or crochet projects some look more organized or orderly than others. Scrap projects are all about not being wasteful.

I've been dyeing a bunch of 20g minis, and have been racking my brain thinking about different ways to package them for sale. So many options! I have holo bags, but I was debating cookie boxes, mystery kits, holiday packaging, maybe inventing a stripey sock pattern or a petite needlepoint project kit. (Or I could just keep them all, hehe) I love minis, they are so cute and fun!

    • @EdibleThoughtsMakes

There are so many options for little projects or even bigger projects! I think a lot of it is mindset and a little planning. Thanks for watching!

I can relate to your issue with 'scrappy' as I also have trouble with certain words. Perhaps, when requiring smaller amounts of yarn for projects, you could refer to them as being from your, "Little Bits" and/or "Lots'o'Bits" Series of patterns. Just a thought. 😊

    • @EdibleThoughtsMakes
      @EdibleThoughtsMakes  2 роки тому +1

Great suggestions! I think some of it's frame of mind and how the word is used. The word "scrappy" has negative connotations (that don't even have relation to crafting) but it doesn't have to be that way!

  • @dawnmrodgers

Mitre square blankets don’t need to be seen together as you knit the next square onto the last one.

  • @deborahmartin5207

Scrappy is also referred to as scraps of fabric which is a fiber

    • @EdibleThoughtsMakes

yes! Someone else also informed me of that meaning/connection (can't think of the right word here) from quilting!

  • @Lynnefromlyn

But it’s all just semantics, isn’t it? It might be tedious but it’s also a bit tedious going on about it too. I have to add I think your colour sense is wonderful.

  • @imakethings3953

    You could call them remnants.

Like remnants of fabric! I love(d) digging through remnant bins at fabric stores....one day again!
