Hi Ben! Thanks for the video, super detailed. I was looking on WGU website for a list of courses required for the RN to BSN but I didn't see several of the classes you mentioned. How does the reimbursement work? I know sometimes you would have to be under contract for at least two years with the company that’s paying or reimbursing your schooling.
Some places might require you to stay on for a period of time. My employer only has the requirement of working full time for the 18 months and they reimbursed 75% of the cost. There is no contract for working afterwards.
Thank you for these videos and congrats! I start May 1st of this year and am definitely in the "get it done quick" mentality.... Along with everyone I'm concerned about Biochem and Stats, but plan to start studying now beforehand. Do you remember what you used to study the material before the course was opened to you? I don't want to waste time studying files on the Facebook page if they are not exactly relevant.
Hey Nicole, you have a good plan set up! I think for biochem I studied a little bit then took a pre-test, I think before I officially started the program. If I'm remembering correctly, there are 2 pre-tests you can take for that course. Based off how I did on the pre-test, I focused on watching the videos from WGU but sometimes looking at UA-cam for more specific content. I took A&P in 2014/15 and there seemed to be a lot of overlap in the biochem course. The facebook group had pretty up to date information. People there are pretty helpful, especially for biochem, and will let you know the general and specific topics to cover for the actual test. For stats, I took the pre-test right away then went to the stuff I had a harder time on studied on that for a bit. Luckily, there wasn't anything about p-hat or z-star or anything like that which is typically found in more advanced stats courses. So for biochem, I basically studied for 2 weeks before I started the program since I had access to the course material, took and passed the test May 1, then after passing that I started on stats and passed that May 2, I believe.
So I’m 4 weeks in and only 2 classes left, 489 and the portfolio!! It’s such a relief!!! Thank you for your motivating videos! I work 3 12s too and it definitely helped having those two days during the week to knock these courses out!
Hi Ben, I’m set to start Jan 1st, just wondering if you had a breakdown of the order you completed the courses. I would like to get all the easier ones out of the way first I tend to work faster when I see progress. I already follow both groups currently studying the notes and videos from biochem group. Thank you for sharing.
Good luck with the program! It is hard to say what the easiest courses are for everyone, but I started with all the courses that had the test component to them. For those, you can literally take one test per day (or more!) In my first six days of the program start day I completed six courses. This would have been essentially impossible for the courses with papers involved. Also, the physical assessment tasks weren't too bad, so I would do that one earlier rather than later. Hope this helps, but feel free to ask more questions! Here is the order I went in: Biochemistry - C785 Applied Healthcare Statistics - C784 Information Management and the Application of Technology - C468 Care of the Older Adult - C475 Health and Wellness Through Nutritional Science - C787 Health Assessment - C349 Community Health and Population-Focused Nursing - C228 Professional Roles and Values - C304 Professional Leadership and Communication for Healthcare - C820 Organizational Systems and Quality Leadership - C489 Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research - C361 Community Health and Population-Focused Nursing Field Experience - L127 Leadership and Professional Image - C493
