    Is tranexamic acid safe?
It can be a great solution especially if you have been struggling with dark spots, discoloration, and melasma. If youve already tried products like vitamin c or even hydroquinone at one point to fade away dark spots, but maybe havent found any luck. Tranexamic acid has gained a lot of popularity as one of the newest dark spot treatments on the market
    What is tranexamic acid.
Tranexamic acid is a synthetic analog of the amino acid lysine and has been used to treat or stop excessive loss of blood in various situations including major trauma and surgery. And in 1979, they discovered that one if its side effects was lightening up dark spots on the skin, which paved the way for skin care manufacturers to start incorporating tranexamic acid as a solution for dark spots.
How long does tranexamic acid take to work?
Many people have been able to see an improvement in their discoloration just by adding it into their regimen at around the 8 to 12 week mark
How tranexamic acid works for melasma.
Its great at targeting hyperpigmentation whether it be post-inflammatory or from hormonally induced melasma because if you take a look at one of the causes of dark spots, you find a lot of the times it comes from UV light which activates plasmin, which then activates tyrosinase activity, which then produces melanin pigments which we want to avoid. However, when we use tranexamic acid, we find that it blocks this first pathway, the UV induced melanin synthesis by stopping the interaction between our keratinocytes which are our skin cells and melanocytes which are our melanin producing cells. So if you stop that, you stop dark spot formation.
When to use tranexamic acid serum for hyperpigmentation.
The best part is that its very gentle and works well with other ingredients because it doesn't exfoliate or stimulate collagen, so you can use it with vitamin c, retinol, niacinamide, and kojic acid.
How to layer tranexamic acid. Tranexamic acid inkey list.
Many of the products youll find come in either as a serum or moisturizer but you can find it in a peel as well. The ideal concentration to look for is between 3 to 5 percent and you can start by using it once a day to see how your skin reacts to it, then move up to twice a day. If your starting it in the morning, start by using a gentle facial cleanser, then your vitamin c serum, then layer on the tranexamic acid after and follow it up with spf of 50 or more.
Tranexamic and and vitamin c for melasma.
Combining it with vitamin C , this is going to help maximize those brightening effects because essentially what your doing is maximizing the strength against the tyrosinase enzyme to stop making more pigment and your doing that with 2 products.
    Tranexamic acid and retinol.
And lets say If your using a retinol or retinoid at night, then layer it under your preferred retinoids and retinol to get an extra kick at night, for overall improved skin tone and texture.

Thanks! I will use rose water, Timeless vitamin C, Naturium Tranexamic Topical, and Neutragena moisturizer with spf 50. Prior to the moisturizer spf, I pat my face with ponds cold cream for more moisture then I also apply vitamin e with squaline or rose hip (I alternate these). Can I still use all this? If so when would I layer in the Naturium Tranexamic Topical? Thanks in advance! So happy to try this for my pesky melasma on cheeks, forehead and temples. Is it ok to use a red light therapy mask for no more than 15 min every other day? I will go on a tropical vacation for a week. Not planning on taking the red light therapy mask so taking a break however when on this vacation what
skin care do I stick with to avoid this worsening? Trip is in less then 2 months. I’m planning on wearing an UV ray block facial mask. I’m just so paranoid and hope this can help during the day. I accidentally fell asleep recently for an hour with a mini heater blasting at my face. This made it all worse so I’m so bothered for that recent mistake.

Great vid, thanks! I read somewhere that it's best to apply tranexamic acid on moist skin, it this true? I tried this, it does make it easier to apply I think. I put a few drops on then get my hand a little wet and this makes it easier to spread. But conversely, I've read that retinol should be applied to dry skin, so if you're going to layer retinol on top, you'd have to wait until your skin dries. Is there any truth to any of this?

Thank you Doctor. I have used TA for 3 months. TA really works on my melasma and other hyperpigmentation. TA really reduces and makes gone hyperpigmentation slowly. And the good things too, TA improves my skin texture from the acne scars and then becomes smooth. But, my face tone becomes dark than before. It is really darker. I have layered with vitamin c before TA, my face tone looks better, brighter but there is still a little bit dark tone on my face. Is it normal ? Thank you for your help 🙏🏻

      @ArsalanAspires  Місяць тому

Thanks for your question. If you prefer using both ingredients simultaneously, consider using products that already contain both ingredients in formulated concentrations, as they have been tested for compatibility. If not, apply the lighter consistency product first (often tranexamic acid) followed by the thicker one (retinol), allowing each product to fully absorb before applying the next. Some individuals may find it beneficial to use retinol in the evening and tranexamic acid in the morning to avoid potential interaction.
