This video is the summation of months of work. THANK YOU for watching. Seasons 1&2 focus a lot on Peter while seasons 3&4 are where the narrative more shifts to Olivia's perspective and I cannot wait to get those seasons to you. Want it faster? Like and SHARE! I love all of you for supporting this project.

Not a lot need be said, Fringe was, and still is, one of the most underrated science fiction shows of our time. I genuinely wish it could be translated to the younger audience in a more consumable manner because growing up with shows like this and stargate (Atlantis and SG-1) genuinely uplifted my childhood and cultivated my love for science. (Naturally reading took the bulk of my needs from there ;D). Thank you for all the effort in getting this video edited, cleared and now posted Daniel

Have you seen 12 monkeys series, kirk tooplays a really important partner and friend and he plays a big role too. And good tie travel, but god beware spoilers, its well done time travel scifi thats great, great characters, great everything , great finale, , gnuinly great and it gets wild yet logical and , avoid spoiler. Mystery is great too. Like the showrunner respected and really did grow with the fandom figuring out, which ends in great red harrings. And seeason 2 gets fun and one, is more build up. the plague arc ends season 1

I always thought Johua's performance was on point, he was supposed to be a jack of all trades with a super high IQ, every person I have met that is REALLY smart, is poignantly facially unexpressive. His one face to meet them all expressions was ok for the character.

    • @bvierasan
      @bvierasan 10 місяців тому +1

I agree, Josh's performance works for the character, given his history and intelligence. He also improves over the seasons. It's funny, though, because I find the character very similar to his character Pacey on Dawson's Creek... just smarter and a tad more mature. I haven't seen him in anything else and I would be interested to see other performances to see if he normally plays that sort of sarcastic know-it-all type or if he plays different types of roles.

    • @arianebarnes
      @arianebarnes 10 місяців тому +12

The tragedy of Charlie / Kirk Acevedo was an off camera situation where for financial reasons they moved the show from filming in New York, to filming in Vancouver between season 1 and 2. While this did not bother Anna who lives in Australia, or Josh who lives in LA, or John who lives in the UK, it did bother Kirk Acevedo who is a New York based actor with family in New York. Hence the suspiciously quick death in early season 2. Kirk would return in future seasons to play parallel universe Charlie, but that is why his story seems broken in early season 2. It's also why Peter and Dr. Bishop moved to a new place (and a new set), and Olive's sister moved away in season 2.
A leftover season 1 episode "Unearth" aired during season 2, which mysteriously featured Kirk who had already been killed off. The episode was the last one filmed in season one for contractual reasons, but the network didn't have any slots for it, so it aired on a "special night" after the fall season aired. The stand alone episode would have worked best in between "The Transformation" and "Ability" in season 1.
Other trivia: John Noble was available to film during the holidays, but nobody else was. That is when the 1980's episodes got filmed with child Olive and child Peter.

Absolutely! That is the essential central principle. The whole examination of fatherhood from the relationship between the Walters and Peter, and the Walternates and Peter (it just occurred to me that Peter is singular-he has no alternates and is therefore the show’s constant), and Olivia’s father and her, and Walter and the little boy from the plant neural network episode, and Peter and Etta, and then the larger concept of fathering a new world.

So, my take on Olivia’s confession to Peter: she’s been holding everyone at emotional arm’s length since losing John Scott. She’s also lost a lot of people she cares about and had to (in a sense) kill Charlie twice (losing him thrice).
She and Peter also have a very unique connection-while their experiences are different, he’s still really the only peer she’s met who can fully “get” what she’s been through and is still enduring; and the reverse is also true.
Honestly, I think it just hit her that losing him was not an option for her. I don’t see it as “settling”, I see it as owned realization. That being said; the writers did kind of rush the realization. I’m inferring a lot from my own interpretation of her character arc. 🤷‍♀️

I would watch person of interest. I think sason one was toconvince te network toe a proceduralwith a thing.. But it beecomes really great grounded scifi. That sticks the langing and is jjust a masterpiece And yes caviezel is, a crazy actor but act well here. And isgreat as the not crazy rest of the cast.
Also the mixt btwwe batmanesce nolans post bat,man , spy thriller and grounded scifi drama.
It becomes great. itslready but amy acker oiing makes it really interesting. And nolans thought out mixes well with abrams doing action drama well, inus the landing, but the ending is great due the nolans.
He is good playing off nolan here making it flow better.
      Person of interest, highly reccomand.
And alias had gret first seasons. And even season 3 the rambaldi mcguffins fit in fine and good family drama. o i stopped at season , but till then i love it.

I never thought I'd spend 3 hours and 15 minutes watching someone summarize a show I like episode by episode, but here I am, because that was thoroughly entertaining! I'm looking forward to your insights on seasons 3, 4, and 5. I watched Fringe when it was on the air, but I just binged on it from start to finish after all these years and fell in love again. It really is a fantastic show, despite its flaws (some of which you pointed out very well). I really loved seeing it all explained back to back like this, because there are some parts I didn't fully grasp, being that there are so many strings and layers. Also appreciate the acknowledgment that Joshua Jackson's performances improve over time. You're right, he's a fine actor among an outstanding cast... but he does well enough. He particularly plays really well off John Noble. Peter and Walter's relationship really makes this show, IMO. Season 5's fan service is definitely amazing and one big reason why I love it despite it not being a fan favorite. I'm excited to hear your take on that.
I will say, there are a few points I disagree on. I found season 2 much more engaging and with better footing compared to season 1. It's really when the show started getting real direction and started working towards that goal. Your point about Peter being a love interesting by virtue of just "being there" is fair (and seems particularly relevant, given her last relationship was also with a coworker), BUT, the writers did spend quite some time building that slow burn between them, so it's not like her confession came out of nowhere. There are a lot of lingering looks and soft touches and it was obviously building up to that. Olivia's choice of sharing her true feelings seems out of place in the context of surviving in enemy territory, but I think it's also what motivated him to come back with her and ultimately set up the drama in season 3, so I get why it was done this way. It's also kind of natural for her to develop feelings for someone she's been in so many life/death situations with over time. Common trope for sure, but one that makes sense within the framework of the show. I think JJ likes to do this a lot... Sidney/Vaughn on Alias are a very similar story (also recommend this one for fans of Fringe, btw! Sidney and her dad have a similar drama as Peter and Walter).
One final thing: as someone who also lost a child, I find myself in a position to relate to Walter. When I first watched this show, I was in my 20s and didn't have children. Now I'm pushing 40 and have had children, one of whom passed away just before turning 3. I related to Walter in a very viceral way this rewatch. I don't excuse what he did, but in the immediate aftermath of my grief, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing he did had I had the opportunity. Obviously, this is real life and I can't, so the point is moot, but I did often find myself wondering in those first few weeks whether my child was still alive in an alterate universe. I think being able to see into a window the way Walter and Elizabeth did might have brought my some comfort... or maybe not, maybe it would have made me feel worse. It's a shitty situation to be in and I really do appreciate Fringe for approaching it in such a nuanced and sensitive way. I had been afraid watching it would trigger me, but it didn't. It actually made me feel understood.

2009 is when I was first deployed to Iraq and is when I first found Fringe. I remember having watch parties in a tent with a projector hooked up to a laptop surrounded by my platoon thoroughly enthralled by what we was watching. Every Sunday at 6 pm, we gather and watch, discuss, and debate who, what, when, where, why, and how. That deployment left many scars but this show did more for me than I could ever express. It's so crazy to revisit this in the Marvel era where we're overasaturated by multiverses and timelines. Fringe was the unparalleled BEST at that sort of thing I think because it always mattered. Instead of new universes and undead characters and secret doubles making everything feel hollow, it was like, "No, the old universe and its history and people matter _so much_ and you didn’t waste your time caring about it all."
It's the only perfect story I've ever watched where everything has consequences and literally every plot point is character driven.

What I loved about this show was that it wasn't the typical boy meets girl sci-fi love story. It is a story about the love of a father and the depths that he would go to for his son. It is a story about a man seeking redemption for committing an act that is irredeemable. The love story between Peter and Olivia really is on the back burner by comparison.

Yea I canNOT stand that…..I loved how X Files didn’t have that at all…..no constant plot lines of flirting and maybe getting together etc…..it ends up becoming like a soap opera 🙄🤮 HATE IT. I know x files was the only show in the 90s that did that and showed ZERO romance development with any characters! Yea yea murder and sculls always had a best friend in the world …maybe its love “plot” but it wasn’t a plot line ….and wasn’t really talked about.
If you watched the show you’ll get it hard too explain

The Peter and the Machine plot line is one of the very best in the show, I will not tolerate your slander sir lol
That being said, FRINGE to this day is my favorite show of all time. It was the first real “adult” show that I got hooked on. I was 13 when the show started and 18 when it ended. It’s the reason I love science fiction and it’s the only show where I was ever part of the “fandom”
Back in the day there was an Internet forum for the show, and I was a regular user on the Fringe Forum. The gap between seasons 3 and 4 were brutal for me, I HAD to know what happened next. I believe I cried when I heard after season 4 that we were only getting one more shortened season. It deserved more than it got, but I’m happy to know that it didn’t continue past its prime and become unrecognizable in the end like many shows do.
I introduced my wife to the show when we were dating and she was hooked immediately. It was such a beautiful experience to show her what was such a big part of my experience growing up. I haven’t yet convinced her if we have a son to name him Lincoln, but we do have a daughter named Eleanor, whom we call Ella for short. So in that way, I got to name my child after the show in a way.

I am just going to say it I think Walternate is less evil then regular Walter. Everything he does is completely justified he's just trying to save his world while regular Walter is just a selfish POS
    EDIT-sorry I should've specified WAS a POS I still love his character

Walter made a horrible tragic mistake in kidnapping Peter, but let us not forget he was a grieving father whose intentions were to truly heal Peter. Once on his own side it became something else entirely.
I guess I’m not quick to judge him because not being a father I do not know the intensity of that love. In addition I’m reminded that there but for the grace of God, go I.

Walter's story is the classic 'the road to Hell is paved with good intentions' It's simple but brilliantly executed in Fringe, in particularly through the performances of Noble and Torv.

There was some discussions about the show in Germany because the TV station that aired the show was promoting it by having their regular news reporter in his regular newsroom and he would act, like he would report actual news, but that "news" was about a baby aging quickly or butterflies attacking people. Some people had trouble distinguishing the advertisements from the actual news, so the station was fined 3500Euros, bc. the "Trailers could have impaired the development of children under the age of 12"
ANd when i saw Ana Torv in "The last of us" i was like: Ah good, Olivia survived the fungus apocalypse :D

My wife and I had never even heard of Fringe. We happened to stumble upon it on Netflix or one of the other streaming platforms. She was bedridden due to illness for some time so entertainment to get her mind off that was key. Fringe was a god send!! We both immensely loved every episode and binged it religiously her every waking hour that i wasn't working. We watched it beginning to end kire than once. I was an X-files nut, and I believe this is far better. We have recently binged it again. How did this show not get more attention?!

you know, I think this show would have fared a lot better nowadays, if it was made for any streaming platform. Back in the day, serials were the big shows, the once you could miss an episode and still enjoy after having missed a couple. Fringe was too "nerdy" for it's time. Requires more investment on the plot than what audiences were willing to give at the time.
Keep in mind this was created by the same people that did Lost, and we all know how everybody reacted to that ending, all that investment in it for no real pay off. So audiences were reluctant to invest in it from the get go.
Binging Fringe is probably, the best way to watch it.
