As always a great video!!! This is the most exciting new version of Studio One in the last years. To put it in an order: 1. the ableton-esk Launcher, 2. the splice-integration, 3. the stems-separation and 4. global transpose bring Studio One on another level and make it a top 5 daw, for me no. 1 as it works cross platform.

Usually, the melodic part of the beat clashes with the vocals, and I'd have to adjust the entire beat to fix it. But now, with stem separation, I can make adjustments only to the music without affecting the drums.

Have they fixed the transientdetection when converting audio to MIDI using bendmarkers in this version? Pretty much the biggest reason for me leaving Studio One for Cubase since you have to manually correct 90% of the MIDI notes in S1 when converting drums to MIDI. It's been a feature request since 2016, would like to see them actually prioritize stuff lik e this.
@@ProducingInTheBox I was using it to create drum midi to trigger samples with for example trigger. Switched to Cubase though since the detection algorithm Presonus is using isn't detecting the transient at the start. Ran multiple tests with hitpoints in Cubase, Massey DRT in Pro Tools and Dynamic split in Reaper. Bend markers in Studio One was pretty much useless, Dynamic split in Reaper got some off and Cubase and Massey DRT was pretty much spot on.
I was skeptical to upgrade because none of the new features really interested me. However, I was expirencing a bug on SO 6 when editing in Melodyne when it will crash studio one if you edit/render and try to edit again the same it will crash Studio One. I had some unused Musician's friends point so with the new offer the upgrade cost me just $40. The first thing was trying to get the same bug I was expirence with Melodyne in Studio One 6 and to my surprised it didn't crashed. So I guess it was a good investment.

Went back to Logic after paying for Studio One 6 I was I bit upset as I had Artist and if I had waited the upgrade would have been less from Artist to 7 than my previous purchase I made only a few months ago. It doesn’t seem like they have a good price model in place and I have everything in Logic I need - long run it feels more cost effective than to be thrown round various hybrid and changeable perpetual options.
I prefer having more options to pay. Forcing a subscription or not offering one seems like a missed opportunity for allowing more people to join in my opinion. They also dropped the price of Studio One by half. $399 down to $199 for a perpetual license. Kind of wild, hahaha

All new updates for free, extra plugins, sample packs, community of other studio one members, mix review from Gregor and Joe, and lots more. There’s tons of extra value in the plus version but the software remains pretty much the same

Since Presonus has no trial version available (as of this posting), can you tell me if they have recording available in the cells, and more importantly, can you set it to 2 bars then have it punch out automatically and start looping? So that you can move onto the next track and build a song that way? Or is it only a half-baked idea where it doesn't really do any of those things?
You can record in the cells! As far as setting it to 2 bars and have it punch out, I’m not completely sure but I’ll give it some more time and see! But you can definitely record directly into the cells !

Absolutely! All you need to do is get the file in the DAW! If it’s a stereo (or mono) file and it had more than 1 track, you can separate it with studio one!

No Eucon support = not upgrading until they do! I need my S1s and my Avid dock to work in whatever DAW I use going forward. I'm sticking with Cubase until Studio One gets Eucon support.
Does anyone know how to assign midi control to scenes or clips in the Launcher? There seems to be no way of doing it from what I can see. It seems a bit redundant if you cannot assign midi control to the clips or scenes... Surely the likes of Gregor and Presonus have incorporated this somehow, especially as Gregor is an Ableton user....
@@ProducingInTheBox I came from another You Tube channel and he was using a Launchpad Mini (which I have now purchased) to launch scenes and clips. Apparently the Atom SQ works too but I think the Launchpad is better as it is built for that exact purpose.
Be nice to see a more detailed expose on the clip launcher; specifically recording in the cells. Seems a little clunky but on the plus side cf ableton….dragging who.e scenes into arrangements is ways cool. Do not understand why ableton haven’t rolled with this
@@officialWWM you're missing the big picture. it's a reference to what S1 does well, but that it has something that 'isn't quite as advertised' within it's infrastructure. not sure there's any need to be so sensitive re another DAW. like so many the opportunity to use multiple Daw's is as prevalent now as ever and we all have 'backgrounds'. if you listened to the tutorial you'll hear also that the presenter references his background in logic...and if i'm correct specifically the loop function in events/clips.
@@dkkrecords my point is, I don’t care what other daw makers are doing. I have used many others in the past too but I have settled on S1 in the last few years. All daws have their pros and cons but you gotta decide what’s right for you. Far more important (in my opinion) is that you fully know and understand the DAW that you are using! What others are doing is just a distraction.
I have a few great producers I know that are going to love these features. I probably won’t use the clip launcher much, but those they will are going to love it

Hey man, I get times can be tough. I recommend checking out bandlab, cakewalk or luna. If you have a Mac, GarageBand is free. Use what you got! The tools don’t matter as much as the drive to make music.
Not impressed with the stem separator at all. Vocals and "Other" sounded phasey as heck. Stringed instruments all go into the "Other" track. Bass was just crap. Yeah its a fun toy to play with but no practical use. I've never needed or used stem separation so for me it's not a selling point. May be different for others. Global transpose. Meh. I guess if you work with musicians that just can't make up their mind what key to play in and vocalists that just can't hit it. Don't forget to tell people that want to use Splice there is a $12.99 month fee. The loop feature is the only thing that appeals to me.
You can use a limited version of splice for free! And I work with artists and bands all the time. We change keys a lot. Just because someone can hit a note does not mean it’s the best thing for them. As a producer, my job is to pull the best performance out of the artist, and the ability to quickly change keys to test things out is a great feature I will be using professionally. As far as the stem separator, yes. Metal is a difficult genre 😂 like I said, I think it’ll be more useful pulling stems out (like vocals) to make karaoke versions of songs imo. It will get better, but for now I’ll be using it to 1: teach my students by stemming their songs out and giving examples of what they can do in their own session 2: Strip the vocals from a song and make an instrumental version for weddings, commercials, ect. I don’t do a lot of that anymore, but back when I was starting out I took payment for whatever people could hire me for 😂 this would have been an awesome feature for me 7 years ago. The loop feature is awesome, I completely agree with you!
You get some free credits by being a studio one user! You don’t need to stick with the trial either! Once you have your sounds, they’re yours for life!
“Childish”? Seriously? It simply looks clearer and cleaner. It’s so much easier to see the separate events now and makes the whole thing much more user friendly. I’m pretty sure they don’t make these decisions lightly. A lot of research goes into decisions like this!

@@bakerman3039 I would argue that a metal track is perfect for testing the stem separation as metal music is the most complex genre frequencywise and if it can provide a good result there it would be a breeze to use on for example pop or hiphop. Heavily distorted guitars is one of the most broadband instruments there is and since metal has started to incorporate a lot of orchestral elements in recent years the genre has became even harder to mix / balance correctly.
I am no metal head but the mixing for this to sound this clear is pretty impressive in my opinion. It would be so easy for it to lose all of its dynamic layers and just sound like a jumbled mess.

There are several free daws and some with liberal licensing to get you started

“Childish”? Seriously? It simply looks clearer and cleaner. It’s so much easier to see the separate events now and makes the whole thing much more user friendly. I’m pretty sure they don’t make these decisions lightly. A lot of research goes into decisions like this!
I fear it will get bloated like Cubase soon.
the only thing i hate about studio one’s UI is the white menu bar on top. it’s so annoying to look at when the rest is dark
I think it looks gorgeous. Nothing childish about it, if a child were able to cook this up, it would be a true prodigy.

I disagree! But that’s why music is subjective and why we have so many genres! What genre do you usually listen to?
@@ProducingInTheBox Tactically - to show the stem separation - you should take some pop, hiphop or seventies music. That trash metal is maybe for the american viewers cool, but for the rest of the world it's just disgusting noise. Make the video for the pleasure of the viewers, not for yourself.
@@bakerman3039 this is my channel and I work with a lot of metal artists. I show metal because that’s why I do. It’s not for you, and that’s okay. There’s plenty of other great UA-camrs out there. I’m here for people who like me and my music. I’m not changing myself for anyone.
@@bakerman3039 I would argue that a metal track is perfect for testing the stem separation as metal music is the most complex genre frequencywise and if it can provide a good result there it would be a breeze to use on for example pop or hiphop. Heavily distorted guitars is one of the most broadband instruments there is and since metal has started to incorporate a lot of orchestral elements in recent years the genre has became even harder to mix / balance correctly.
I am no metal head but the mixing for this to sound this clear is pretty impressive in my opinion. It would be so easy for it to lose all of its dynamic layers and just sound like a jumbled mess.
