Meat Eater is the BEST show in television hands down. Steven Rinella is the absolute BEST example of what a TRUE hunter is and should be.. we need more like him showing what hunting is really all about and supposed to be.. shout out to Joe Rogan... welcome to the world of TRUE hunting!!
100% so educated on flour and fauna and honestly has his heart in the right place. He even got a vegan to have a civil conversation and read his Meat eater book.
130 at least. I keep hearing words from him that I have read in good books over and over and he must have good spacial awareness to hunt and most likely a good grasp on patterns as well from reading seasons, numbers and the movements of game. He reminds me of Anthony Bourdain in a lot of ways even though they are/were very different people. It's so amazing to hear someone who built most of his communication skills from novels instead of conversation or text messages these days. I'm just glad he isn't as existentially tortured as Tony. At least 40 more years of carefully considered ideas and prose ahead, just hope I don't die before I hear it all.

Lol in rinella’s first time on , joe argued with him about how hunting in these preserves that are fenced in where the animals can’t escape is just the same as real fair chase hunting. Now, on this episode, since he’s starting hunting he understands why it’s completely different. He was pissing me off so much in that episode when he argued with Steve about that subject, saying you should have the same feelings for killing an animal in that way and couldn’t understand why Steve disagreed with hunting that way. Crazy how much starting hunting opened his eyes.
It's amazing the ironies of life Joe points out. Seriously, the world can learn from him....Just talking to interesting people for 3 hours straight, multiple times a week, really does wonders.
sneaky ass joe rogan... i didn't even know there was gonna be a podcast today... hell yeah! i gotta say i love all the podcasts with hunters on them. Brings it a little closer to home.
I've watched every episode of Meateater, I'm amazed as a hunter what he does. He is a Hunters Hunter. I've learned so much about being a hunter and knowing and understanding the prey that I, myself have become a better hunter and gatherer just for my family...Steven Rinella really knows his stuff!
Best episode in a while. Covered such a wide range of topics THUMBS UP ALL THE WAY. I love when anthropology topics are covered. More people need to know about how we came about as people.
1:08:30 how he talks about that song. haha. Steve is a naturally funny guy. can't imagine the laughs they have hunting. you can tell he enjoys what he does. awesome podcast
Steven Rinella then Cam Hanes....keep it up...people involved in this industry need to be in a real setting like your show....now a big JRE fan....BOOM
I can't believe how addictive this show is! It's almost small talk, but it's riveting! Rinella has to be a full Autodidact though. Self taught people verify everything they hear and read because it fascinates us. Both Joe and Steve learn as they talk and it's just mesmerizing!
Holy shit! i just want to say... Joe is not covering. Joe always talks about how he barely pays any attention to the industry. Steven, on the other hand, is plugged-in to anything he does with the attention of a hunter. So it completely makes sense that he knew and Joe had no idea.
I made it all the way to the end, but it was painful. I kept having to pause it and just take a breather because Brian Dunning is just so frustrating. I feel like it would have been a better debate if Brian could actually play back clips from the podcast that he was citing. But he couldn't really back up anything he was accusing Joe of.... frustrating podcast to say the least.
Still don't understand what peoples problem is with that ep. The dude was obviously very well read, even if he had overblown sense of importance. I tend to find that Joe's audience dont always handle eps with uncomfortable atmospheres like the DeadMouse and Kilstien one. Might be the stoner lot. I wasn't particularly enamored with his opinions either. Still a good listen. The Kilstien ep was still fun to watch, even if it was only because Kilstien didn't know what the hell he was talking about in the slightest.
I hated it. I think the guy was intelligent, and he made some valid points, but all that was completely overshadowed by his douchy nature, and constant need to be right. Like the whole 1000 mg of Vitamin C thing, where he entirely missed the point of the sentence. The point being that using a lipozome or however it's spelled, allows the body to absorb more of whatever you're taking. But he just kept harping on the 1000 mg part of the sentence, trying to be right about not needing that much vitamin C, effectively missing the entire point of Gordon's sentence. Joe told him that several times yet he either ignored it, or just flat out didn't want to admit he was wrong. And that's one example of a 3 hour long podcast where he was being an insufferable douche. That was my problem with the episode. I find it insulting the way you lump us in as "the stoner lot" as if there's no valid reason not to completely hate listening to that guy. There were plenty of reasons to hate that episode, and the guy. Namely that he was being a total douche the whole episode and always sounded like he was speaking from a high horse.
Whoneedsvids Oh. I agree wholeheartedly. I didn't like the guy either. And there were points where I got bored and stopped and came back later so I might have missed pieces. And I wasn't even referring to you. Just the people who dislike some of Joe's guests because they arn't mellow as fuck. This one got a lot of flack from them as he was pretty negative. This definately wasn't one of his best eps XD Pretty sure Joe wasn't feeling it much either.
