Who is thinking of buying a plug-in hybrid SUV and what cars are you choosing between? And has anyone else been to Autódromo de Sitges-Terrarmar in Barcelona?
Hi. Thanks for interesting presentation. I am thinking about new PHEV this year. I am waiting for new Outlander PHEV to be announced. Right now my choice is Toyota RAV4 PHEV. Which has better off-road capabilities: 3008 PHEV or RAV4 PHEV?
To say that when the battery is depleted the engine runs it like a normal car is factually incorrect. It will run like a normal hybrid which this reviewer should know.
Yeah that's correct. Even with 0% battery it still switches to fully electric from time to time since it regenerates enough with braking and charges with the engine. So yes it works as a normal hybrid at 0% battery life.
It is indeed an expensive car but hey, a full option 300Hp 4wheel drive SUV, with the full economy of a small city car.. what do you expect ! I do not get why car journalists keep saying it is too expensive for an hybrid and you are better off with a cheaper diesel version, as this is not just an hybrid, this is first a 4 wheel drive SUV. If you want to save money you buy a Dacia Sandero! It was the same with the 508 RXH, journalist in UK and France were comparing it with standard 2 wheel drive sedan/wagon that where 5000£ cheaper and saying you wont make the money back with the fuel economy. Only in Norway did I see a test of the 508RXH against the Passat Alltrack and for the same price the peugeot won the test because it could manage better in offroad condition and had better fuel economy. So let's compare the 3008 hybrid4 with 300Hp 4X4 SUV or wagon, and you will see that it is not more expensive, probably as good off road/on snow if not better ( the smooth torque of electric engine helps a lot) and the hybrid part comes as a good bonus on fuel economy and taxes.
Interesting choice of location. This was an abandoned oval track, very well known to locals. It's called the Autódromo de Sitges-terramar. Did you get a chance to drive over from Gava to Sitges? It's one of the best driving roads in Spain, with sharp crests, tight bends and smooth tarmac over the sea line.
I’m sorry but until they make the price realistic and affordable for people like myself and a million of other people, this hybrid and electric thing is never ever gonna happen £36,000 pounds for Peugeot is just outrageous!
I’ve just bought the all new Peugeot 3008 hybrid 4 for £49,000 top spec obviously. It’s all down to what you do, I travel about 24,000 miles a year sometimes more so this kind of car is needed but if you just go shopping or to town every once in a while then full electric is the way. Or even just stick to normal fuel as your co2 wouldn’t be that much. It’s all down to miles you do as to whether these cars are worth the money. 🙂
Hybrid cars are not designed to stay & doomed to fail. After all why carry two power train every where , pay two maintenance, pay for two fuels, two headaches only to achieve one objective !!! And yet damage environment as there is no Tomorrow...Total madness. I guess taxi drivers & those travelling more than 300 miles a day could benefit from Hybrid cars.
s d The 508 sports engineered as they call it, has AWD and a 200 bhp puretech, with a combined specific output of 508 bhp, but it can only use 400 combined. 0-60 in 4 secs.
I like the idea of a hybrid car but for those of us who don't buy Saint Greta's doom prediction the difference in price and the efficiency of a diesel is too much.
not really, the WLTP test cycle is fairly short, it is done with a charged battery and without - the average is taken, so in effect it does half a short test run on charge from the mains which cost CO2 to produce the electricity. Also after the 20 or so real world battery miles are used up, due to its weight this car will produce more like 180g/km for all the following miles. Terrible! (but a good tax dodge!)
SUV are not a sports car. They in intended for family use and for those that need more space to carry things around. It is absolutely silly to keep referring SUV's as sporting :) Also one has to understand that the industry still has a long way to go with Hybrids which is a few years time they will disappear and make way for full electrical cars.
well, Peugeot have been making hybrid and 2nd generation electric for about 10 years now, and they where making electric car even before for the post services and other agencies... I remember an employee of the city hall coming to my school in the late 80's to show us their brand new fleet of electric car. So they might not be as advanced than Toyota but certainly more than a lot of other car manufacturer.
What confuses me here is the following. okay so New 3008 and I would guess the 5008 will be Hybrids, but yet the new 208 and 2008 will be all electric? Why did they not offer hybrids in these. It doesn’t make sense and seems like a bit of a waste. I believe that he pure electrics will do ether than the hybrids as this seems to be the trend that is forming in the market place. But to countries that do not have such strict emissions standard i would fare that the diesels will sell better as they have better economy and more power band over all! I have always loved my Diesel Peugeot’s but and not fully convinced of the reasons to change to all electric yet. Not just that there is a very poor infrastructure of electric charging points here in Australia unlike other countries. So still better to stick with the combustion types for now!
Doomed for UK company car market already due to its 1.6 engine. Lots of UK companies reimburse their driver with plug-ins for business mileage using official AFR rates to spare its drivers of any tax liability. Below 2.0L you only get 14p which means maintaining an average of 40mpg or you are personally out of pocket! The 3008 official MPG is only 39mpg and you never match that so this car is certain to end up with you paying yourself to do your own job! = Dead duck. The competition this year, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, New Kuga PHEV and RAV4 PHEV are all over 2.0L so the driver will get 21p per mile which means they only the need to average 26mpg (so many will actually make a tidy profit from their reimbursements) and all these cars will be cheaper to buy too.
It's not doomed at all for the company car market. If it's a company car, you don't pay business miles - the company pays it. What you pay are your private miles which can fluctuate between 0.12 ¬ 0.16 p / mile. This can be both good and bad as 0.16p can be quite price compared to your own car but at the benefit of ''I don't care what the MPG is'' or of any insurance/repairs/etc. Alternatively, what you are saying might refer to private cars that to business miles but those have their own rates at 45p below 10k miles / yr and 25p above 10k miles / yr. Not sure how it works with ''company car allowance'' but fairly certain it would fall in the business miles at gov rates (see above 45p and 25p). Would be interesting to see where you got your numbers as mine are coming from direct experience (what I actually pay).
I mean I personally prefer the DS7 over the 3008 but I would say that the 3008 is a more polished and realized product compared to the slightly more out there DS7.
So, in 3 yrs when this car goes from company driver to retail sector, which crayon wielding private buyer is going to write a cheque for over £20k for a used Peugeot whose drivetrain in 3yrs will be considered a massive dud, and will probably be in need of mechanical attention. Value in 3 yrs, less than a standard one?????? Or am I missing something
Really? Perhaps you have heard that Peugeot has been considered very reliable brand in UK? Peugeot has been ranked as the UK’s most dependable car brand in 2019 according to JD Power survey.
ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΟΣ ΚΟΥΛΕΝΤΗΣ The new 3008 has been available for about 1.5 years now! And the same can be said for the 5008. But i Believe that the new 2008 will be available shortly in the first half of this year in Europe and then the later part of this year for us here in Australia.
All electric and hybrid cars are priced nonsensically. And due to new taxes over taxes, even the cheaper fossil fuels have been rising in price constantly.
I considered the new Ford Kuga plug in hybrid but was not too impressed with the seating. Moreover, the old Focus was more solid than the new Focus which feels very fragile (doors etc), they must have done that to lower the weight of the car but it feels very cheap. I also looked at the Outlander plug in hybrid but in the end the best solution to mpg appears to always be a french diesel engine. I chose the 3008 Peugeot SUV 2020 diesel version GT line yesterday, we shall see how it goes. I wish the government was not holding a gun to our heads to get us to buy electric cars. Charging the cars is such a pain and the emissions from cars are no problem to the environment, perhaps in crowded cities but there nobody will take ownership of an electric car because they wont be able to charge them at home! I think all of this unnecessary push of European governments to electric and the enormous tax levy on diesel and petrol has made our new cars very ugly and dark (small rear windows etc) and too compact - low head room etc, for the sake of higher mpg. The only few good things that have emerged out of all of this intervention are one or two internal hybrid cars such as the Prius or perhaps the Honda CR-V hybrid, excellent, but unfortunately both are rather ugly or nondescript. They need some Italian designers to make them more attractive. Perhaps marketing told them that those in search of electric cars are rather boring vegan people. Why are plug in hybrids petrol and not diesel? is it because people think that nobody will buy a diesel plug in? But we are being forced electric by the fuel levy not by choice. A diesel hybrid is better for it would help the mpg on long journeys. We are in a bit of a mess when it comes to cars in 2020.

Do you know, it's gone in one ear and out the other, except for the music. To some up [please do], a professional organisation being reviewed by an armature organisation, who have been revived by a blind man

French cars and electrics no no no no!!!!!!!
You're still living 2 decades ago??
Just buy a toyota if you are looking for a hybrid.
It`s only the prius and Rav-4 you can get as a plug-in hybrid.
The standard hybrid system is a total scam and is a shame for the EV world.

Rather have Opel/Vauxhall Grandland X hybri instead this French nonsense!
P.S. ... and only a complete idiot could believe this is ecological :D
What do you mean. Vauxhall and Opel are PSA products
1st They are heavily base on Peugeot, but quite a lot is developed still at Rüsselsheim development centre. And what I mean is the stupid Peugeot interior. The guy who created the gages over the steering wheel design should be shoot with AK47, M16 or whatever machine gun available
That interior design is with ease the stupidest interior for the 21st century! It beats the ugly Tesla's design by miles! As Tesla's dashboard at least have readable information.
@@BenzinioB the vauxhall is built on the EMP2 platform, its pretty much the same car as the 3008, just not as good, same with the DS7.
Tony B Well... lets put it the other way round then:
Some parts of Peugeot 3008 are developed by Opel at Rüsselsheim!
And Grandland X is the better car, because it has way better interior! It is just way more usable, drivers friendly and all in all prettier then 3008 with its stupid steering wheel scratching your balls :D
