Under $20! 8' Truck Bed Extender using four 2x4's!

My DIY truck bed extender build, using four 2x4's in under an hour.
Extends my short Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4' square bed to 8' long to hold 4'x8' items, and folds back into bed when not in use.

I really like your idea. I don't know if they already recommended you in the comments to install four turnbuckles in the four corners and fix them to the wood.

Get a steel receiver bed extender. Installs in a minute no screws needed!

In retrospect do you think you should have put the legs so the rest further back on the tailgate? Great idea though, did you ever use a hitch mount bed extender? I just bought the folding one and it looks great. Haven't used it yet though

Sounds like you should have gotten trailer and a car with a hitch instead of using a truck as a compensation.
