I love the H08 in any of the available color combinations. The Vaucher movement is excellent and punches well above its weight. Hermes is taking a very serious the long term view with their watch business and I believe they will continue to build respect amongst watch enthusiasts in the years to come.
I own the Santos and wouldn’t underestimate the thinness and overall comfort. It is also very versatile with multiple straps. I voted with my wallet and Cartier won.
I think it's easy if you like the design of the H08 which I do. It has a much superior movement, case, dial, and construction. But what do I know. Pantaloons have been around longer than pants but I still prefer pants! lol
I have both and love both. The Cartier is a bit more versatile with the quick strap change so you can switch between the sporty rubber strap and croc straps very easily. Although both are very comfortable, I think the H08 is slightly more comfortable and seems a bit better built. For daily wear I find myself wearing the H08 more.
1 thing to mention here for H08, after you adjust the hour and min hands, you need push in gently to avoid the hour or min hands from accidentally moving during the process. It is frustrating for me at 1st, but need to take some skill to do it.. Hope the manufacturer will improve on this.
This is a tough one. I prefer the dial, the exhibition case back, the font, the twin barrel and higher power reserve, and the styling of the Hermes. But the Cartier has higher anti-magnetism, a better strap system, and of course that brand name. It's also, by far, the classier of the two - on leather strap, it's fantastic with a suit or with t-shirt and jeans. For that reason alone, my money goes to the Santos.
But look,it's not that difficult a choice: either you are looking for a fresh classic or you want a futuristic watch which prolly is gonna be a rare classic in a while. Both are breathtakingly stylish. I want them both. Also,1mill difference in thickness is not significant. Have a nice one, lads.
Santos for all the reasons you stated. Additionally, there is a slightly higher level of versatility. It can feel at home with a sport coat on date or at a meet and greets. On the other hand, the Hermes will not look out of place with athleisure wear or with outdoor activities. But I expect my 5-10k watches to cover the more formal situations, not formal, more formal.
Wow, this is one of the best Versus videos ever. Two really well matched watches, and both are great. However you just seem to get more for your money with the Cartier - extra strap, better lume, quick release system. The Hermes has a more appealing dial and nicer movement, but lacks the history and timeless design. Really tough choice though
I just want Cartier to add an exhibition case back. And maybe make a bracelet for it. It would probably be expensive and still slim profit margins, but nice to have the option. Imagine a DLC Santos bracelet.
By far I choose Cartier the history the name the notoriety and versatility of different straps 100 years and still extremely popular my vote goes to Cartier
Is the Santos really on everyone’s wrist, though? I’ve only seen a couple and both were vintage Santos and stainless. I feel that the ALDC version is pretty uncommon
I like sporty watch over Classic boring piece, Hermes won, you will get less poeple wearing them so you will set apart from crowds, for me movement is not the only thing to decide buying watches
That butterfly clasp on the Hermes is absolutely brilliant. The ability to microadjust a strap like this is great. The design is from a Swiss bracelet specialist Dexel SA who makes the same design for Montblanc and Formex. In fact, Formex's CEO is the son of the man who owns Dexel.
H08 for me because of the modern design and good details, but I would choose the titanium version with orange strap. I have owned a Slim Titane for few months and it rarely has left my rotation. I am quite impressed with the quality and wearability. And the most important point is it looks fantastic on the wrist.
When will Cartier make a ceramic version of the Santos? I feel like it’s a natural progression that is a bit late to the game. Imagine if it came with the ceramic bracelet as well.
CARTIER. Always the Cartier. Always any Cartier. I’m planning on getting my first ever Cartier piece in next 1-2 yrs and a great condition used Santos will provide perfect versatility between office and outside. History, pedigree and wrist presence!
Choice of materials and colour go uniquely together near perfectly. The specs are also representing nice value.. Cartier Santos has it all minus screw down crown lol but Hermes holds its own strong on this particular model and is not going to be seen everywhere so that's also neat and imho between the two watches there are a few similarities so I think personally I'd lean towards Cartier but I think both are great watches and depending on life style and personal design preference they are both solid choice's .
You're right, Hermes makes better movements and is a more prestigious brand. Cartier movements are trash. Also, Van Cleef & Arpels makes superior jewelry.
The Cartier style is overused in everything at this point. I don't believe Cartier is ambitious at all in fine watchmaking. They just want reasonably respectable quality for a Cartier quality watch. Hermes has gone completely out on its own to create this H08 timepiece. The sourced twin barrel movement and exhibition finishing says it's, in fact, polar to the Cartier it wants fine watchmaking in its timepiece. The clasp & band are less authentic, but that for Cartier is their selling point rather than the timepieces' rarer horology qualities. Twin barrel automatic for under $8000?! And everything else is comparable in comparison.
I love the H08 in any of the available color combinations. The Vaucher movement is excellent and punches well above its weight. Hands down GRAPHENE for the win! 🏆

Tim doing the most. Great to see yet another versus episode!
Thank you for this kind feedback!
Best,

i own an h08. have not had this issue.
I owned an H08 and noticed this as well.
I had the same issue with an Hermes Arceau equipped with the same Vaucher H1837 movement.

no wrist shots with Hermes?
Hermes for me. I plan to buy this model later in the year. Having said that, the Cartier is a beautiful watch.
Tim, you said the clasp for the Hermes was specd for this watch, who makes it?
But look,it's not that difficult a choice: either you are looking for a fresh classic or you want a futuristic watch which prolly

What is your pick if it was gifted to you, Tim? Now, which one if you were paying for it? Thanks for this awesome comparison 👌
Hermes gift Santos cash
@@michaelplantus1999 I’m in agreement to you
I have the same exact Santos. Most comfortable rubber strap I’ve worn. Very stealthy look too.
I just want Cartier to add an exhibition case back. And maybe make a bracelet for it. It would probably be expensive and still slim profit margins, but nice to have the option. Imagine a DLC Santos bracelet.

Hermes has better brand history than Cartier.
@@danielmiller9012in handbags.
Both are simple yet elegant and just beautiful imho. Very impressed by the Hermes.
I would have a very hard time picking between these two.
The Hermes is superior in almost every way but I would still go with the Cartier...
not sure if it applies to pre-owned, but Cartier extends your warranty to 8 years when you register it (if bought new)
Thanks for the comparison! But i still can't decide so i went to bought both of them 😆
I would go with the Hermes simply because not everyone has one on their wrist.
Is the Santos really on everyone’s wrist, though? I’ve only seen a couple and both were vintage Santos and stainless. I feel that the ALDC version is pretty uncommon
@@newton2105, just for clarification, I was referring more to the brand. Just curious, how many people have you seen wearing a Hermes?))) 😉
Hermes movements absolutely shit on Cartiers.
Great comparison, I just can't quite bond with Cartier, Its the H08 for me.
I like sporty watch over Classic boring piece, Hermes won, you will get less poeple wearing them so you will set apart from crowds, for me movement is not the only thing to decide buying watches

Good idea I’m gonna buy an orange strap to go with my black Hermes watch

Cartier Santos 👍👍🙌
I’ll take the Santos please.
Santos.
Both are nice.

Both are super cool watches. My pick was the Nomos Tetra 175 Years black dial :)
Cartier for me.
ខ្ញុំមិនចង់បាននាឡិការធម្មតាទេ ចង់បានវាថតសម្លេងថតរូបបាន!
I own an H08 and the lug width is 20mm, not 21mm. I very much doubt the graphene model has a different case design and 21 mm lugs.
24 month warranty = fashion watch
Don’t really like dlc on anything as it always scratches in the end. H08!
Cartier and it’s not close
Im going to France soon. I can't decide! Every time I think I chose the Cartier or Hermes I change my mind. This video makes it worse hahaha.
Hermes pronounced "Ermez"
Santos 100%
The Hermes looks plastic
One date is extremely out of place
if this was a real battle, the H08 Graphene would have been sold by now but youre stuck with it
We had three of them; one remains.
Best,
Tim
You must be kidding: Cartier vs. Hermes?
Serious?

As in everything Hermes, the H08 is way overpriced for what it is. You'll be getting what should be a € 1K watch for € 10K.
The movement alone would cost more than that.
Not even close. Cartier is class and Hermes is g shock.
