    This is a good list, I have been trying to get my hands on ahsoka but I have yet to find a copy in my price range. Rogue one catalyst and the novelisation are on my to get list along with a new dawn because i love the rebels show. The new cannon thrawn trilogy was very fun and I agree that Tim zahn can definitely write military Sci fi. This is definitely shown in the thrawn ascendancy trilogy. I definitely didn't know that a new dawn was the first of cannon books. You learn something new everyday :). Eli vanto is an amazing character so I agree. Master and apprentice was fun and it was actually my first star wars book so that gives me a bias towards it, I assume but it is an amazing. The high republic is something i have to vet into as i have yet to read it.

    thought I wouldn't like revenge of the Sith because I've seen the movie so many times. by far one of the best books I've ever read. the detail behind Anakin and obi wan and story building around it (kids at school arguing who's better) etc. makes his downfall so much more heartbreaking. 10/10 must read

My father got me to start reading for fun with the Drizzt books and then that lead me to the incredible and nearly endless star wars novels galaxy. I listened to a “a new down” and i love how Kanan every while remembers his lessons as a jedi and cry in the inside for his master. “revenge of the sith” novelization and it broke my heart for everyone and it made me like Padme (i only like her in TPM and in the other movies it made me feel like I’m watching a bella swan) but in the book i loved her. I listen to first 8 chapters of “light of the jedi” and i love it so it’s on my to be bought list along with “ahsoka” and “master and padwaan” leia the princess of aldaraan” is on my to listen after “the last jedi novelization” and the fifth book of “jedi apprentice “ after you and Twitter I realized i may be one of the youngest fans of this series (many hardcore fans never even heard of it)

    Also, glad to see you had a new dawn high on the list. That book has been flying under the radar for years and is rarely mentioned among the greatest star wars novels. It's one of my favorite books and i think does the best job of making the reader love supporting characters that are running around with kannan and hera. Also the first battlefront book I thought was fantastic. I know you said you don't Freed. But I think that book was great at telling a rare story from the perspective of ground soldiers. But best of all, you nailed it with the high republic novels. I just finished the fallen star and it was great, but I think the rising storm might be the best star wars Canon novel and I so look forward to where high republic is going

I really thought he did a great job those characters to life, and with the story taking place on 2 completely different planets(well ones a moon) he made my minds eye picture them perfectly as if I'd really seen it, especially the moon. I also liked the villain and how he wrote him, makes me wanna read more about him. I love how star wars showcases so many incredible authors. @jonathankoan  2 роки тому +1

      I know a lot of people struggled with the first Aftermath. I didn't, mostly because the story was really intriguing to me, but I totally understand. Life Debt and Empire's End tie into the greater Star Wars Story a lot more and are "larger" stories in and of themselves. I'd say that they are worth reading, especially if you are interested in the time period. Life Debt has Han and Chewbacca in it, as well as some other cameos from other main characters, and Empire's End has a ton of main characters, so they're easier to get into in that sense. However, the writing style stays pretty much the same, so if it bothered you at all before it will here.
      Also, thank you for the love for the list! I'm planning on releasing more Star Wars lists, Canon and Legends soon.

    Do you have a correct reading order for the High Republic books? I’m lost on where to start them.

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  2 роки тому +2

      So this is where it gets interesting. There is a general reading order, based on release dates. However, you don’t have to read certain things in exact order to enjoy or understand. It depends on how much you are reading. If you’re reading strictly the adult books, I would read in release order so “Light of the Jedi”, “The Rising Storm” and “The Fallen Star” in that order. If you want to throw in the Middle Grade and YA books, the. I suggest reading the them in the Waves they came out in, and start each wave with the Adult book, then choose the rest after that.
      That’s the best I could come up with. I’m sure there are much more detailed lists elsewhere, but that’s my methodology. Release Order and emphasis on the adult books.

      @@chevalierdulys The legends books were written first in the 90s, and they tell this huge epic story. However they focus on high majority of the time on the rebels, and the imperials only get a small amount of page time.
      The canon Thrawn books tell a much smaller, character driven story. However, it is told entirely through the imperial side, and takes place earlier in the timeline. Based off your desire to read imperial stories you’ll probably want to start there first. However both are awesome books and some of the best of their respective timelines.

    Okay, few things. I would highly recommend for you to add titles & authors while you are talking about series//books - i think it would be much convenient for both you and your viewers. Some pros that i observed: you have very smooth voice, you are genuine in your passion and sound quality is on high bar. Nice to meet you (virtually), i think i will stay for a long while :) As for My canon perspective vs legends as much as one of my most loved books were in legends (Traitor, Revenge of the Sith, or Shatterpoint by Stover; Thrawn Trilogy or X-Wing series), the legends at the end were so strange or even stupid plot wise; Vongs were kinda okay-ish, but i think on the end of theirs invasion the plot went bad and never recovered. To not spoiler anything- last bad guy was so OP it did not make any sense in this universe. Same happenned to my shonen mangas (like Bleach or Naruto - good guys are op, so bad guy must be more op, and agan again to the finale where bad guy is kinda of a god). Anyway, i am glad Disney took over and i think they control much better their lore and adventures. Not the biggest fan of some of their movie-decision (EP VIII), but overall as far as comics and books are concerned i am hooked ^^

      Thanks for the feedback. I am interested in making the channel better. I do sometimes include lists and timestamps, but sometimes feel its better for the audience to find out which book I'll be talking about as it comes up. I might start including a number on the side when I do rankings and also include the name in the picture (but I usually am holding the book, so that also works to show which book/author I am talking about).
      I will say that the Legends books do get pretty strange, but they are very good reads, but I feel the same can be said with the canon. I'm just happy to have the opportunity to read more Star Wars books!

    After the release of Fallen Star, would you place the trilogy at #1 or still just book 1&2?

      @jonathankoan  Рік тому

      I wouldn’t put book 3 up with books one and two. I just didn’t think it was as good. I put it somewhere in the middle of the canon, not amazing but not terrible. But books one and two are still high up there.

    Hello
    I started reading star wars in 2002 and made a personal goal read them all (books YA books comics ebooks) when it was announced in 2014 that the EU was no longer canon it broke my heart. I decided to finish off the "legends" book. I finished in 2018. Do you read YA books and comic? they are just as important. Hope to hear back soon.

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  4 місяці тому

      I do read the YA books, although they generally are not on the same quality level as the adult books.
      I have read very few comics though, just not my preferred medium.

    • @brownwit
      @brownwit 4 місяці тому +1

      i can stomach reading YA material. in comics I recommend Mara jade by the emperor's hand and the Dark Empire series.
      You read Knights of the old republic volume 1. I should tell you at that time Dark horse comics had 4 series : Knights of the old republic, Dark times, Rebellion, Legacy. they decided to have a crossover. One character appears in all 4 series called Vectors part 1 and 2 which consist of Knights of the old republic Volume 5 dark times volume 3 Rebellion volume 4 and Legacy volume 6. I could just read the crossover or read all the series to understand.

      It depends what your tastes are. Do you want a big, interconnected overarching story featuring the main characters?...Legends is a good place. Do you want a series of standalone books and series that each tough on unique genres?...Canon is good for that. If you like Clone Wars, there are books in both that will appeal to you. I’d say just look into a book that has a topic that fascinates you and you’ll be fine. Both are excellent timelines.

    I so wanted to like Light of the Jedi. Listened to the Marc Thompson audiobook, but it was probably TOO big of a story for me. Too many characters. I may give it a second chance in physical form. Really enjoyed Master and Apprentice and every other Claudia Gray book I have read so far. And Ahsoka holds a special place in my heart as it was the first Star Wars novel I ever read . . . I've got a lot of catching up to do.

      Sorry you didn't like Light of the Jedi. But I agree it is a little tough to get into with so many characters. But there have been some great Canon novels published so I hope you can continue reading them!

    • @zachzichter4604
      @zachzichter4604 Рік тому +1

      Absolutely. Truth be told. I've been going crazy reading both canon and Legends. I listen when I walk the dogs and read in print in the evenings.
      For CANON, I've enjoyed:
      The Thrawn books (still haven't read Ascendancy trilogy)
      Master and Apprentice
      A New Dawn
      Ahsoka
      Rebel Rising
      Most Wanted
      Lost Stars
      Into the Dark
      For Legends, I love the Thrawn triology and probably the Duology more. And I'm in the middle of the second X-wing novel. John Jackson Miller is a great writer, but for some reason, I was really thrown by Kenobi - I know it's your favorite! I enjoyed his writing, but I kept thinking, "This seems like a Western romance novel with the love triangle . . . Take out the sparse interludes of Obi-wan meditating and tweak a couple of words here and there, and you got yourself a regular ole' western."
      That said, keep on trucking! Whenever I consider getting a new Star Wars book, I check to see if you've ranked it or reviewed it. Always a fun watch / listen.
      P.S. I didn't even mention I'm reading these all en español (at least the ones in print) as a way to learn a second language. It's been super fun, but Legends and even some Canon books are next to impossible to find in Spanish.

      Sorry that I spoiled it. When it comes to the big events for Star Wars like the movies and television, it’s very hard to Gauge if people know them or not, and oftentimes those big events are used as barometers for setting up a book series or comic series. Especially since the ending is 5 years old and season 2 finale is 7 years old.
      I hope you still watch and enjoy Rebels…it’s still very much worth it.
