my girlfriend's dishwasher wasn't draining properly,
i watched this video and was doubting that just cleaning that out would help the dishwasher drain properly, it was pretty gross stuff in the hose to the garage disposal lol i amazed how gross it was, i was amazed that a not so handy guy was able to do what was in the video.
so after i put everything back together, she turned the dishwasher on & it drained 😊
I was very excited i was able to fix it....thank u so much for this video...
u saved US from having to call a plumber...and most importantly my girlfriend was pleased 😊

YEP! That was exactly the problem. I I kind of thought so but wasn't sure how to open the gap's tabs... till now. I often turn to UA-cam as a first resort to learn a fix, and this again is another success story. Thank you!

11:45 my brother, thanks to your video, I was able to diagnose that I had the same problem you did. I ordered an eight dollar part from Amazon and fixed it myself. That thing was nasty, but the brush knocked it right out. Thank you for posting the video

Thank you so much for making this video. I had checked and cleaned my filters checked all the hoses. And the dishwasher still wasn’t draining until I saw your video removing the top plastic piece off the air gap. I found a toothpick with some gunk wrapped around it. I removed it and my Dishwasher is draining properly now. Awesome video!!!!!

I thought, for my dishwasher, it's the drain pump. I replaced it with two brand new ones and it just couldn't solve the problem til I saw this video! I opened the air gap and it is clogged very bad. After it's cleared, the dishwasher is up and running again with no draining issue. Thank you so much for reviving it (I almost throw it away😂)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This fixed work. I didn't use the t-shirt for fear of it getting stuck, but removing the hose and cleaning the spot that the hose connects to the disposal with a thin brush for pipe cleaning did the trick. PLEASE NOTE: It's important to clean the hose out and the sopt where it connects to the disposal.

Yes, the air gap was my problem. I tend to put my sponges in the dishwasher to sanitize them, and a lot of small sponge pieces with some hair got stuck at the top of the air gap, preventing water from passing through the air gap to the drain. Needless to say, sponges will not be going into the dishwasher, any more. Thanks for your help! And thank you, Jesus.

Great video. I was able to use a 2’ Cobra hair snake to loosen any debris (used on both ends). Then I plugged the outlet to the disposal with my finger and ran and cycled water through the upper gap, letting go before it overflowed each time. Gunk all flowed out with no hose disassembly. Running perfect now.

My dishwasher stopped draining twice in the past couple months. Both times, I removed the hose from the dishwasher pump and blew air (from a strong air compressor) through the hose. That did the trick both times. It ever occurred to me to check the air gap. I just did, and there were 3 toothpicks popping up in the small hole! I guess that's where gunk was accumulating. I assumed the blockage was in the garbage disposal discharge hole. Gonna get me a pipe brush on amazon now!

I saw elsewhere that one of the reasons that air gap hoses tend to clog like this is because they do not have a propper slope leading to the garbage disposal. The hose needs to be at a constant downward angle. In this video the hose clearly angles up into the garbage disposal. Shorten it if you want to avoid clogging..

    • @freeindeed9508

    Good video.
I found a splintered chicken bone in my air gap, caused the dishwasher to not drain.
FYI the black rubber baffle in the disposal pulls out and reseals very easily. My sink smelled horrible until I removed and cleaned the baffle. Any cleaning effort with baking soda and vinegar or using ice would not get to the bottom of the baffle.
I did not have to clean my tubing or the disposal port.
It just my opinion but it most likely may have been easier to clean the tubing while it was still disconnected.

What if someone just left the air gab dangling under kitchen sink? Will this cause leak? There is no hole drilled on granite countertop. I am thinking just to do a high loop and keep air gap vertical, or somehow cap or seal the air gap so drain water will go directly to a garbage disposal.

I have a drain pusher, a plastic thingy from home depot that is flexible and i use it for hair in bathroom drain. I used that, but it doesn't seem to be long enough to come out for me to see it in the disposal. But I think i might have cleaned it anyway as I was moving it from both ends. So the length of the wire necessary to see it when it comes out into the garbage disposal? Thanks!

    • @freeindeed9508

I mainly wanted to show the buildup that occurs in that area, then show the method of cleaning it out from the air gap. That way people can just bypass taking that line off all together. Though I probably could have cleaned it better from where it connected at the disposer. Thanks for the thought on the line going from the dishwasher to the disposer being cleaned also, Have a good day and thanks for watching.
