Dusk by the river in the Amazon rainforest - Jungle sounds

- Dawn and dusk in the Amazon rainforest are particularly lush when it comes to biophony, especially by a slow flowing river. The stark contrast between the beauty of birdsong and the shrill urgency of insect calls is never as evident.
The river itself acts as a border and connection for a myriad unseen worlds, a meeting point and boundary for the inhabitants of the rainforest. Contact calls, warning calls, begging calls, scolding calls, alarms - the language of wildlife ebbs and flows with the day/night cycle.
Tying all this together is geophony, the sounds made by slightly more philosophical wildlife - the rainforest itself. Wind in the trees, ripples in the water, branches breaking and falling with deep thuds, fog drip, rain in all its variety, fruit sploshing in the river - there's a rhythm to these too, albeit more subtle and on a different time scale.
On my expeditions to rainforests and other environments I've experienced countless moments like these - transitions from day to night and night to day - and I still find it incredibly exciting. I'm privileged to have had access to these magical places and I hope you can be transported there for a short while through these soundscapes.
Recorded at Las Piedras Amazon Centre in the Amazon rainforest with Sound Devices 633 and Sennheiser MKH8040/30 DMS rig. Enjoying the videos I upload on here? Feel free to support me by:

Hey George, I went to look at this recording to buy but I'm confused as to what is on it. Is it this exact same recording as here on UA-cam or is it many other things too? I'm hoping that there are at least hour long recordings of each area. Can you clarify, please? Thank you.
@@robinredbeard Hey Robin, no I'm not selling these long-form recordings unfortunately. they wouldn't be much use for sound designers. The sfx libraries I sell are made up of many short tracks, 5 to 10 minutes in length each.
@@GeorgeVlad Darn! I so enjoy the long-form recordings. I use them to fill my room in the day and they help me sleep at night. I was hoping by purchase I could put them on repeat and use surround sound. Thank you anyway. You're just the best nature recordist I know of. I'll just have to enjoy your recordings on UA-cam. Do you have a nature recordist your respect you might recommend that sells quality surround long-form recordings?
@@robinredbeard not really, recordings that are available for sale are pretty short and only Stereo. The library I'm selling isn't bad for listening even if the recordings are 5 to 10 minutes long though, and it's not the same content I have up on YT. It's over 5 hours total so plenty of content.
@@robinredbeard I do the same. Set a timer to auto switch off around 2am when hopefully I’m asleep…. :)
Amazing
Thanks Liselot, great to hear that. If anyone knows what Las Piedras is about, that's definitely you :D
This one is one of my favorites to fall asleep to.
I miss falling asleep in the Amazon to this soundscape.
@@GeorgeVlad welcome back! I can only imagine. It must be amazing.
once more... thnx (again)-4-sharing these perfect soundscapes!! - the whirled iz A better place-4-it \
My pleasure John, thanks for listening.
I know what I’m falling asleep to tonight! Looking forward to it George!
Enjoy!
@@GeorgeVlad It’s amazing as always!
@@juice2090 great to hear that!
love this one
Me too, it's one of my favourite recordings from that trip.
1 hour of the regal natural sound. I will sleep well tonight. Thank you ❤️
Awesome, enjoy!
really nice, lovely little surprises in the soundscape; beautiful!
Beautiful way to put it, thank you.
Sounds great! For a stereo mix, do you omit the rear mic in your DMS rig, or do you do some sort of surround->binaural downmix process?
Thanks Alex. I decode DMS recordings to Stereo or Surround using the Schoeps DMS plugin. The cool thing about it is I can rotate the audio field to find a good stereo balance if needed.
@@GeorgeVlad yeah - that Schoeps plug-in is great! I’ve used it quite a bit with Reaper and Waves NX for a binaural output.
