    Thank you for the delicious, yet simple recipe. I did not have Ponzu sauce or Shimeji mushrooms, so I used regular store bought mushrooms and made a sauce similar to Ponzu with a combo of citrus and soy sauce. I also used brown rice, so it is healthy.

    Looks yummy! I love mushrooms and anything that can be cooked easily in a crockpot or rice cooker ^^. You daughter is so CUUUTTEEE and is so active and learning new things every time we see her. Thank you for including these little snippets of her at the end of your videos lately ☺️💗

    I just finished making this Ochi, and it turned out very delicious! I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms, so I omitted it and added some other mixed vegetables instead, but it still turned out very tasty. This really was very easy to make, and all of my roommates tried and really liked it too. Thanks for the recipe~

    I just tried out this recipe last night and it's wonderful!! I'm going to cook this again!! Thank you for posting this!! :D I also tried this out with chopped cabbage and it's super delicious! Adding a few drops of sesame oil after its cooked helps the rice to remain moist and gives it a wonderful aroma ^^

    My husband makes a similar meal with chicken rather than tuna...I never thought to use canned tuna! Looks delicious!

    Tried this with jasmine white rice and an improvised version of the ponzu sauce (the recipe called for lemon juice, but I used orange juice instead). Turned out quite decent. Thank you for this quick and easy recipe :)

    can you cook this using a rice cooker with only a "warm" and "cook" function or do you need a more complcated rice cooker with settings like white/mixed/sushi/porridge/brown, etc?

    Hi Ochikeron, may i know if i can use Mitsukan - Ajipon (Citrus Seasoned Soy Sauce) to replace Mizkan Ajipon (Ponzu sauce)? I have difficulty finding this Mizkan Ajipon (Ponzu sauce). I have been looking everywhere, all the Japanese groceries store in Melbourne but non of them have this sauce.

    Is it okay to use tuna in oil instead? I have so many cans leftover from a previous recipe xD I guess it won't be as healthy, but maybe more rich??

    I'm surprised so many people say ponzu sauce is not available since even kikkoman makes one, and that brand is "everywhere". Amazon sells it, so you should be able to get it somehow online with luck.

    Shimeji Gohan (Rice with Shimeji Mushrooms)
    Ingredients (tbsp=15ml, cup=250ml)
    (5oz) shimeji mushrooms
    1 aburaage (fried thin tofu)
    2 cups hot water
    Chicken
    (5oz) chicken thigh fillets , diced
    1 tsp soy sauce
    1 tsp sake
    Rice
    360ml (rice (¼ short grain rice + ¾ sticky rice)
    295ml dashi stock
    1 tbsp sake
    1 tbsp light soy sauce
    1/2 tsp salt
    Garnish (optional)
    Mitsuba or snow pea shoots

      you can make ponzu from scratch. but this Ajipon is different and very unique~ i would say no substitute for it. you will know it if you have a chance to get it. maybe on amazon?!

    my dad has taught me to measure the water with my fingers. The rice should be equal to the water when measured by hand....so should I also follow that rule in this recipe?

      Pineapple Time this method works for me in any rice cooker :) at least with white rice whether long grain or short grain
      I haven't tried it yet when cooking in old school pot and stove though

      You can find the sauce in the Japanese section of NTUC finest. I got the sauce there and it's wonderful!! ^^

      You can make it yourself using oranges~ There are many recipes for that, just google orange ponzu sauce

      lance lim Ponzu Sauce (citrus-flavored soy sauce: you can mix 1:1 soy sauce and lemon juice to make it)
