If you drink 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before eating the rice, the GI will be "lowered" since the ACV will cause a slower releasing of the starches. Or so I've been told, and it feels like it works! (for me) And of course, if the meal contains (healthy) fat, the total GI for the meal will be lowered.

Ok. Clarification, I am not a diabetic, but have insulin issues. I normally do not eat rice due to the glycemic nature. So yesterday, I indulged. I keep a mix of brown, red, white, wild rice blend and quinoa I use one e in a while with lentils. I am unsure as the variety. I had a 1/2 cup of lentils with rice mixture and 1/2 cup of homemade fresh ground pork. This would make the rice mixture a 1/4 of the bulk of the food. My blood glucose did not seem to spike much. It was a normal low carb bump. I am going to test this some more, but if my body does not react to whole grain rice that bad, I may use it more. I will look to make sure the other rice varieties I buy are the whole grain basmati next time. I really have no idea what this was. I normally substitute cauliflower as my rice for most meals and keep very little rice on hand.

In Secondary School I had Learned . Brown Rice Contains more B Vitamins than white rice. ** Not only that, it also contains more minerals such as phosphorus, iodine and manganese. Sincerely,
With any rice, wash and drain the water and repeat for 4 to 5 times before cooking. And let the rice cook for about 10 minutes and drain the starch from the rice again and wash and drain the water from the rice again before final cooking. This way of cooking rice, reduces the starch and lower the glycemic Index of the rice. This process reduces the glycemic index and assinic from the rice to about 37% and becomes more friendly with people with diabetes
Hello… how true that even despite brown rice is more nutritious than white rice, brown rice has more arsenic than white? Please clarify. Thank you doctor.
People with T2D are more interested in the blood glucose responses in the following cases: 1) brown vs white rice of the same type, 2) brown vs brown of different type and 3) white vs white of different type. Ultimately, people want to have the knowledge to make their own decision. Thanks!
If you are insulin resistant, you should not be eating rice at all. It makes no difference if you eat white rice, brown rice, or Korean mixed rice. The spike is nearly identical. If you don't believe it, do a glucose test for each one and compare the results. The only reason you would eat brown rice is for a little bit more fiber and nutrients. With 45 grams of carbs in one cup of rice, that's a lot of starch that will turn into sugar. Unfortunately, there is no close substitute for rice. Quinoa has similar texture to rice, but it too is high in carbohydrates. If you don't want to give up rice altogether, your best alternative is to cut the portion in half or more. Increase the amount of vegetables, meat, and healthy fat in your diet to fill you up.
Excellent teaching video, Dr. Chan, sir. I find that as an American, living in a suburban areà, my problem is twofold in nature: the first being, my ignorance of the differing varieties within both Basmati and Jasmine rice; and, secondly, lack of availability. Perhaps with the new knowledge I have gained, I will explore online ordering. Would love your opinion on black rice, too. Much respect and gratitude.
Brown basmati rice from India has much less arsenic than just brown rice from the U.S. Also freezing the rice after cooking and reheating lowers the GI.
Dr Chan would be more helpful if his discussions would treat the arsenic question with regard to basmati brown or red rice, the whole grain rice varieties. I want to know if the brown basmati rice I bought from India is significantly lower in arsenic than other brown rice. How does it compare in this respect with California grown brown basmati rice or with California grown brown rice? I am now relying on an old Consumer Reports statement that Indian rice is low in arsenic. Would I do just as well to buy Californina brown rice?
In the Philippines Rice planting depends only on rainfalls but other places r having irrigstion. So i do understand now that it's healthy in our home province without irrigstion system ..

What is your take on basmati rice specifically sold as Low GI Basmati Rice? It's generally the polished but I've noticed a difference in flavor and texture, likely with it being aged longer. Is it just marketing or is it actually low GI despite being polished rice?
I have read that one may reduce arsenic content of rice buy cooking it in a large volume of water and pouring off the water when cooked rather than using a rice cooker. That makes sense. How about cooking the rice in a large volume of water, then pouring off the water before it is fully cooked, then finishing the cooking in a rice cooker to achieve the drier rice result? It seems to me that would be the better method.

@@SooperFlye Thanks for the great information
@@BC-cd3pz U'r welcome. I've kept my glucose sugar just below or at pre-diabetes levels. Average A1C = (L) 5.6 to (H) 6.1. And I was able to do that via my PCP (doctor), my endocrinologist & nutritionist, plus tons of great info like this YT channel. In this day and age of internet info, people can easily control & maintain their glucose levels. 👍

Thank you, Dr. Chan.

This dude knows his stuff. None of my rice eating friends know the entire process of rice. It is Sad. My happy rice moments are feeding my horses and cows the unprocessed rice. They loved it. While I minimize my intake, I found the Bhutanese Red and Chinese Purple rices to be tasty.
Yes, Bhutanese Red Rice not easy to find, but I loved it. Thanks for dropping by my channel and leaving a comment, much appreciated. Cheers, Dude.
I love to have that bhutanese rice but i fo not find it herr that i could buy.

Thanks Dr. Chan🇺🇸

Hi,Just subscribed to your Chanel because I am a diabetic, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Hello… how true that even despite brown rice is more nutritious than white rice, brown rice has more arsenic than white? Please clarify. Thank you doctor.
Doc, to start with...is Brown rice a good idea? Why?
Well explained about rice Dr garu
@@onespeedlite I try all vegetables on my plates add rice doesn't matter brown, white, or any kind of rice I just eat 1 tablespoon of

So which rice is best for health?
Basmati is miles ahead of the others in terms of low glycemix index and healthy for you.
Doctor which geographical Locations yield the the Lowest As 33/ Arsenic Content level in rice. Thank you for your channel !
Very informative Dr Chan!!! 😊👏
Brown basmati rice from India has much less arsenic than just brown rice from the U.S. Also freezing the rice after cooking and reheating lowers the GI.
Thank you ckearong up the confusion.
Thanks for the clarification of the colors of rice.
In the Philippines Rice planting depends only on rainfalls but other places r having irrigstion. So i do understand now that it's healthy in our home province without irrigstion system ..

Dr which the best rice for diet???
Cooked rice.
Dr. Chan can you please let us know if rice (brown or white) can taken by diabetic patients.
For diabetics on the safe side don't go for anything white ,be it rice or bread etc
Thank you Dr Chan so good to know the comparisons. Very interesting topic ⚘
What is your take on basmati rice specifically sold as Low GI Basmati Rice? It's generally the polished but I've noticed a difference in flavor and texture, likely with it being aged longer. Is it just marketing or is it actually low GI despite being polished rice?
Is brown or red basmati rice healthier?
But we don't know which one is better in terms of nutritional value...and diabetes, which one is better?
Please do a video on the glycemic index and glycemic load on all these types of rice.
That is my intention, doing more videos GI-related aspects of Rice. Thanks for dropping by my channel and your suggestion. Cheers, Doc
Thank you Doctor C.
Which one is better for diabetics?
