    While Larry did score 47 points in a game he largely used his left hand, only 10 of his 21 made field goals were left-handed - the others were right-handed.

    Jerry West is #22 on the all-time NBA scoring list with 25192 point in only 932 games. Every other player ahead of him on the list played well over 1000 games.. Keep in mind, unlike most of the guards ahead of him on the list, "THE LOGO" had no 3 point line when he played. If West received 3 points for those jumpers instead of 2, he'd be well ahead of them all.

    Like all of the members, he's also had at least one "near miss" season where he missed on 1 of the 3 numbers by a fraction of a percent - if you round mathematically he DOES get a 5'th membership season, but if you do that Bird gets 3 and a couple folks get 2.

    The problem is that big men don't learn how to play the POST any more - 60% from 2 point range is better than 40% from 3 'cause you're more likely to get the rebound to TRY AGAIN, and it's also a lot more common.
    The long-time 2 point record percentage for a season by WIlt was over *70%* (was passed last year), and 60%+ is fairly common for great post players, while 40% for a season is pretty UNcommon for 3 point shooters and matching Wilt's efficiency from 3 is VERY BLOODY RARE even before you factor in his REBOUNDING efficiency that year on his relatively few misses.
    9:32 and per Charles Barkley, the reason big men don't learn the post any more is the surge in popularity in AAU Basketball in recent years, where very few coaches bother trying to TEACH their players anything but how to shoot - and often not even that.

    • @Rafaeu777

      @@Rafaeu777 You're talking to a long-time ABA fan here (AKA preaching to the choir).
      But if you don't MAKE those 3 pointer attempts at a fairly high rate, you don't cause anyone to care about you and do NOT get the spacing etc.
      Some players just get IGNORED when they're that far from the bucket, as they're no threat worthy of paying attention to (Shaq in his day was a prime example - made one out of HOW MANY despite probably being wide open every time?).

    • @Rafaeu777

      @MrSlashblade 2 роки тому

      60% is league leading back in the day and if you look at the top 10 2FG% today (which is the era with most of these due to spacing) only handful of them are volume scorers and even back in the day the likelihood of that 2FG% was even that high was even less
      There were seasons where one to maybe 2 players who were shooting 2FG% inside the arc at that efficiency from the 70s all the way to the mid 00s. On the other hand 40% while elite is more common, and even stars can hit 40% from 3 in spite of high volume
      Makes sense why coaches don’t promote post play and promote a more position fluid game. You can’t convince everybody that they’re going to be Wilt in terms of back to the basket.

    • @MrSlashblade
      @MrSlashblade 2 роки тому

      There’s literally been only 3 confirmed seasons and possibly a fourth where the top 10 most efficient 2 point shooters have hit 60% and it’s been the past 4 seasons, meanwhile since 1990 to today (32 years) only 2 seasons have the top 10 3 point shooters not all shoot 40% or higher and that’s 1991 and 1992. Numbers show that 40% from 3 is more achievable then 60% inside the arc
      Post play has been dying since zone became a thing, and it’s only makes sense to be used by guards because of their ability to dribble and make plays even in the teeth of the zone.

      Price was definitely a great shooter, but his career average was 47-40-90 (11 seasons). Nash was closer: 49-43-90 (18 seasons). And over the 11 consecutive seasons from 2003-13, Nash went 50-43-91. That’s absolutely insane
