Yeah, will see how it will perform with mesa 24.2 which is like less then 3 months away Its awesome as companies like valve are helping also :) www.phoronix.com/news/NVK-Explicit-Sync-Valve Valves engineers obviously want this driver to be the standard for nvidia cards for the linux desktop, collaborating would be easier with the driver being foss so games would be fixed probs quicker aswell
It's great to see that most of these games just _run._ They may not run _fast,_ but run nonetheless, which is already pretty huge. I didn't even consider trying some of those AAA titles 😅 The frametime can be somewhat stabilized by using a frame cap, but it's only a stopgap solution - the driver still needs a proper fix. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, thats what im excited about, they already can run and at a decent fps already, excited for mesa 24.2 and ill probs try the git version of mesa to see the nvk improvements that they make down the line :)
@@linuxnext If you do try NVK another time, I'd like to suggest you also showcase a couple lightweight games, since this video seems to be mostly dominated by heavy titles. Also, since NVK now works, that'd suggest Zink on NVK should also work. 😉
Yeah, i said that also in the video, feels the exact same as amd on plasma under wayland, rlly smooth which is awesome, i would like all parties to have the same experience under any desktop environment on amd or nvidia or intel for that matter
I know right, the fans get so loud, its always been like that since i got it, i was surprised when i got my amd card as that is so much more quiet I must have gotten a bad sample from msi's gpu's
Why does it say 0% gpu usage? I had the same thing when I tested NVK, but I'm not sure if the metric is broken or if it's actually entirely on the cpu.
The original video about nvk

Thanks for keeping us in the loop with NVK's development and compatibility.
ok thanks for showing these - the crazy thing how fast it is progressing

The desktop experience with the NVK driver is smoother for me. Also smoother than with the 555 and plasma 6.1.
