  • When you get the flu, viruses turn your cells into tiny factories that help spread the disease. In this animation, NPR's Robert Krulwich and medical animator David Bolinsky explain how a flu virus can trick a single cell into making a million more viruses.

Fun fact: Sexual reproduction(not the act, merely using two gamete cells that produce a composite of 2 parents rather than just using a clone of a single parent) is in effect changing the lock on your child's cells, at least somewhat, to make the receptors on the outside of a cell just different enough to give your kid more of a fighting chance in staving off an infection from a virus.
This is the reason why populations that have low genetic diversity, whether it's fish in a pond or royals in an inbred family can be more susceptible to illness (but also other diseases caused by inbreeding aren't just linked to viruses being used to the "locks" on your cells, many of them are more about recessive alleles getting amped up so much that the negative effects caused by those alleles are expressed.)
Anyways, don't inbreed folks. The Habsburgs know the consequences.

Cells do communicate to slow down the infection by releasing messenger peptides. They inform the surrounding cells of the danger. When the virus will enter a nearby cell, the cell will produce RNA-destruction enzymes aimed at the virus' RNA. It will then be digested as soon as it's released from it's capsule.

I'm sitting here with the flu. Severe weakness (at one point I could barely walk) nausea, cough, inability to focus, getting dizzy, after every minor task I have to rest in between time. Putting my layers on to take my dog out is exhausting. Coming back in the house, exhausting. Removing my layers, exhausting.
I will be so glad when I'm better.

my friend has a sensitive stomach! whenever she tried to eat when she got a flu....she throws up after a minute and of course she throws up water (ik it's weird) she once tells me that when she tried to drink water...and then 30 seconds later, she threw up. and in Paris,France she ate yogurt and then 45 or 30 minutes later, she threw up. I felt sooo bad for her! I told her I once got a super bad stomach ache, i cannot breathe properly and i have to rest. and Once i got a bad one and it lasted for 2 or 1 hours of resting.

Whenever I feel the early symptoms of an oncoming cold, I drink it as a hot or cold tea, three times a day, and I never get the cold. This has worked for me half a dozen times In the last three months. I highly recommend this!*
