How big can a Jade grow in one growing season?

- Going from a small jade cutting to a sizable plant, ready to get a first styling as young bonsai. Is this possible? Succulents are often seen as slow growing, but is this a fair assessment?
How big can a Jade cutting grow in one growing season with proper care and healthy growth?
Quite remarkable. I have two portulacaria and they "survive" but I will not give up. I think I water too little but not sure but will take this video as an inspiration even if I live farther north than you.🙂
:) When it is warm and the plant is actively growing, in the right substrate one can water quite a lot.
@@GrowingBonsai Ok thanks for comments, cheers!
I can’t wait for spring so I can do this with my PA’s 👍
:)
Wow! Great job! ❤
It's a first time on your channel for me. And from the first time it's so inspirated!
Thank you a lot!❤
My portulacaria cuttings are outdoor all the year here in Israel.
They servived a strong winter storms and rains and a extremely hard summer sun. And they got only home-made fertilizers. Because this my portulacaria demonstrated a small growing.
Now I wached your experiment and it's incredible result. So, I'm going to make my own experiment.
Thank you so much for your lesson!❤
Give it a go. They really can grow fast, if watered well in warm periods
Nice!!
Thank you!
Yes I was very surprised by the incredible growth!!! I need to spend a little bit of attention on mine next year to see if I can replicate what you have done. Very inspriing Jelle :)
I am going to try and make this one explode next growing season.
Wow! That was amazing growth! You don't really notice growth when you see a tree every day. Not until you see before and after pictures you see the difference.
Absolutely, one of the reasons why I enjoy these longer timespans for videos!
Sorry in advance for my english 😅
I didn’t know that afra could growth that much and that fast ! I might consider get fully focus on mine this growing season and see what I come up with in September, thanks for the motivation and experiment !
You can do it!
This is by far my favourite video I think I have watched it 100,000 times😂 can you please make more Portulacaria afra videos 😊
Hm.. I think this is not true. I have checked and this video has not received 100K views ;). But glad you like it. I will make another one or two this year.
@GrowingBonsai lol.
Yes great video
Wow. Just startet these a few weeks ago. The growth is amazing on yours.
I left a few in their soil which i bought it in and a few in an akadama pumice mix.
If i'm getting half your grow i would be happy.
Water, heat, fertilizer..
I like these plants I have one that is over 25 or more old with very small leaves it is the only indoor species I will keep indoors, the secret is in the watering or lack of it, I water about once every three weeks or so, mine is now indoors as it is getting colder in the U.K. I think I will do as you have and repot it in a bigger pot in early spring and do the same with cuttings from it. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, different phases require different handling!
what fertilizer do you use for your plants?
There are a few videos on my channel, do a search. Start here: ua-cam.com/video/-QBjl8ct6_E/v-deo.html
Hi Jelle love your videos, great to watch, and very east to listen too…
A question if I may, I have a trident maple, can I work on the roots, towards the end of spring here in Melbourne, badly needs it, tree not growing well at all…
Any advice, would be much appreciated 🙏
with the heatwaves picking up, I would probably not do hard rootwork after real growth has started. Probably best to uppot and in early spring next year do real rootwork? Seems like ozzy is in for a real stinkerhot sprong
@@GrowingBonsaithanx Jelle it’s not so hot at the moment in Melbourne but they say it’s gonna be a hot summer coming up, can get too hot, which is unpleasant …
Thanx for your input, your the man, also have taken some Japenese and trident cuttings, trying your baggie method, will see how they go in a few weeks…
Thanx Steve 6:55 6:57 6:58
very nice...Jelle what kind of fertilizer did you use for the portolacaria?
Nothing special. I blend whatever I have available. THere is a video on fertilizer somewhere on the channel!
hi..what kind of fertilizer you use.....thanks
Mostly saidung but any generic fertilizer works.
Thats pretty good for one growing season!
That's what I thought!
What fertiliser did you use yelle...

Un grand merci pour cette vidéo très intéressante!
You're very welcome.
How often did you water? Did you leave it dry most of the time?
I live in the Netherlands too and mine grew around the same size, I just watered them with my normal bonsai. I noticed that as long as i had good draining soil overwatering is not really a problem with the jade. This was in spring and summer. In Fall and winter i give them way less water.
In the growing season I water daily. In winter mostly dry.
I would love to watch your portulacaria afra propergation video
this one? ua-cam.com/video/RQGejYDPF1Y/v-deo.html
Yes that is the one thankyou
What fertilizer did you use? 😢
just whatever I was giving to the rest of the trees
Can it grow as vigorously as yours in normal garden soil ?
I suppose so. Fertilizer, water, sun and heat!
I keep my portulacaria afra trees in growbox over the winter where they have light and very warm temperature 30°C so i need to water them 1-2 times a week what is better than in summer by the window.
absolutely great!
Awesome
thx
Can we see your glass/green house that you used?
It is in the background of some of my videos. Nothing special. Just a small glass greenhouse against the wall
@@GrowingBonsai I will definitely need to keep an eye out for it
Here in Southern California, jade plants grow huge effortlessly and are everywhere. Chaparral clime becoming desert:(
:)
👍👌🙂
💛
Mantap luar biasa
Thank you so much!
They must be good grower to survive because in their native habitats in Africa they are elephant food. You can imagen what a heard of elephants can do to bushes. We talk about hard prune!
Imagine? No need to imagine! I worked on elephant research for several years in Kenya!
