Hey Nate, all Humans make mistakes! Some are willing to share this with the world, and others pretend they are perfect :). I feel that showing the mistakes makes it easier for people who just start, to start. We all do stupid things at times, and thats ok.
Great timing . I’m at the exact same stage with mine and didn’t know when to start pruning and wiring as I only planted it this Spring. Your advice is now invaluable. Thanks.
Great forest Jelle!! It wasn't a messy video! It was exactly how we do things and learn things! No one is perfect and I have a lot of respect for someone that isn't afraid to show some imperfections. It helps all of us learn and become more confident! Thank you Jelle!
I‘m very sorry there is the possibility to give only one thumb up. I would give you ten! Very good explanation how to create a forest. Thanks Jelle. Regards from the south of Germany
That is what i was looking for. Just about to create larch forest myself. And even master himself popped in to leave a comment :) Nice job, thanks for sharing.
Welcome! Not sure where you are ocated. Keep in mind that larch rootwork should be confined to the fases that needles are dropping untill just before budbreak.
@@GrowingBonsai based in uk. So far is created as a sketch. Thinking about buying some larch seedlings to keep them not touched to the next spring. But really appreciate your comment not always you can have replay from a video creator. Thank you 😀
Zelfkritiek is de basis van alle wetenschappen. Een groot mens heeft het over zijn fouten. Mooi larix-woud ben benieuwd naar de ontwikkeling. Mijn complimenten. Video 👍👍👍
Great real, world example! I find that every forest I’ve planted requires me to move the trees around during those first few years in order to get them just how right. Also, I it’s planting is a bit like playing Jinga trying to get them all sorted and planted. Thanks.
Mistakes happen, as long as we learn from them, everything is okay. Next Spring I hope to make my Larch forest, this Spring I made a Hornbeam one, my intention with this one is to try to keep at shohin height which I think won't be easy in a forest but then again, a challenge once in a while, can be very enjoyable. Looking forward to see your Larch forest develop !
Great video, but so confusing! 😅 I think I’ve got it right eventually! I’ll try this plan later this year possibly putting together a benjamina forest! Btw the Chinese elms over rocks 🪨 made following your video are doing great!
@@GrowingBonsai eventually getting warmer… I’m out now watering the babies after getting home from Cambridge… I hope soon to reduce these silly exhausting trips!
Depends a little on what you hope to get. If you need to develop branches, basically, only prune to keep inner buds alive. Else, mid-spring is a good moment. And once the needles are yellow and drpping is great for pruning and styling.
Great video Jelle. Unfortunately my planting s lack a little of that structure. If you watched my oak forest construction there was a great deal more randomness about it. I never was much good at math :)
I bought a group of Japanese Larch seedlings, and while planting I noticed that one of them has a dense cluster of twigs at the apex. Is this something that needs to be corrected now, or just let them grow for the year and correct later?
When a substrate bag falls over the helper elves are unhappy with something you did or said. So please appeace the elves or your Bonsai will not grow😏🤪
Great to see a forest being created!
Love the process. It is that I cannot keep putting together more bonsai and forests.. I would love to just create new compositions every day!
Great to see that the experts make mistakes too! It still looks good now and I'm sure you'll be able to balance it out over time. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your years of experience. I have learned so much, as a new bonsai person. Thank you Ray Stroud
So nice of you, glad to be of help!

Letting it grow for the season is not a bad idea.

Minutely and thoroughly explained. Thanks for the updation.
ever my pleasure!

Dank je Ernst!
Thanks for posting this video Jelle, as it gives confidence to novices like me to try new challenges, & if we make a mistake, we learn.
:D The intent of my channel brought together in a comment. Thank you!

Absolutely true! You make a plan and then when it comes together you decide it looks better in another setup. Thank you for the comment!
Great information thanks
Love love your videos!
Thank you sooo much! Spread the love and share!?
Хорошее видео, спасибо! Я думаю, что крайние деревья слева не должны быть такими же по толщине, как главные в центре.
a new creation to see development and to learn from
That is the plan!
Great work with this forest Jelle. I always say a plan is a guideline, not a guarantee!😂

Thank you too, I passed!
Still a great video, yelle ....I have lost count the number of times I have messed up ...but we learn from our mistakes.....take care my friend..
:) Agreed. Making mistakes is key to trying new things. If you never mess up, you never put yourself beyong the area of comfort and control!
Cheers Jelle!

Hi Jelle, great video thanks. When would you recommend pruning Japanese Larch? I'm guessing mid summer and winter? Many thanks 😊 🙏🏼

@@GrowingBonsai thanks for the advice 🙏🏼
Actually thinking jt looks better the "wrong" way. Thank you for the Video. Also, what do you think about european vs japaness larches?
I have been thinking the same.
I need to check. I feel that Japanese larch is more vigorous. I do not really appreciate one over the other.
Great video Jelle. Unfortunately my planting s lack a little of that structure. If you watched my oak forest construction there was a great deal more randomness about it. I never was much good at math :)

It does help create something looking natural!

Sehr gut gemacht.
Danke dir mein Freund
😂looks great anyway, Jelle
Thank you so much!

haja.
How many times i pick the best side of my pot and then put my tree in backwards is ridiculous.
Yeah, seems like we do it on purpose sometimes!
Mistakes are made/don to learn faster 😂
