The sad thing is the animators are Dream fans, who are primarily skilled in Minecraft animations, so Dream decided to give them a short time to rig together a huminoid model and animate it when it clearly isnt their thing
As someone who looks back at the time I stopped taking my medication as a very impactful time of my life that has had intense repercussions, dream glorifying it because it makes him feel more "creative" is an incredibly harmful message to give to kids
Fr, and people are trying to excuse it because it’s “just his experiences” like he doesn’t have immense influence over others
Yeah, it would be one thing if he had an audience of predominantly teenagers or adults, but my 11 year old brother watches Dream’s shit, and I don’t want him to be scared to take medication.

his music isn't horrible, i liked his roadtrip song. this is just a huge downgrade (mask) because it's basically just full of "im 14 and this is deep" type shit. and i know he probably went through this stuff, but for some reason, it's just so fucking funny to me. maybe its the horrible autotune and shit
I feel bad for the animators. They were just kids who were convinced to make this, and were probably intimidated with Dream being an adult/them being children, deadlines, the new art style they were not used to(they typically make “Minecraft” style/blocky videos), and the fact that this video would be watched by a very judge mental audience. The video is not great, but the animators deserved better feedback, and it was not their fault.
Only issue what I really take from his music video is that it clearly advocates that as part of being accepted as neurodivergent in society, not taking your medication seems like a positive step towards that goal, and while how each individual decides to go on with their medication is on themselves (though ideally, if possible and having means for it), after discussing with their mental healthcare professional about it AFTER trial period of medication so there's enough data how the person is with and without medication, but as Dream has 23 million subscribers that are majorily under age, this video sends them a harmful message that they should just refuse medication straight up. Again, how medication affects each individual (who has access and means for it) is individual basis, but if having means and access for it, it is preferable if said individual at least does the trial period with medication and after discussing with their healthcare professional, then makes the decision if the medication is helpful for them or not.
For myself, I had ADHD my entire life and only received medication for it in my thirties, and while the medication does have few downsides, the upsides vastly overweight them and has hugely improved my day to day life and my ability to function and partake in everyday life in society. This might not be the case for all of course, but I feel very strongly about Dream sending this (possibly unintented) harmful message to his vastly underage audience of 23 million people, and seeing him just making fun about the issue on social media and only writing apologies on his locked account just rubs me the wrong way real bad.
Have you seen the interview with Anthony? He sheds some light on this, the video is about is childhood self and throwing the pills away is just something he did back then, he doesn’t advocate for it.
I very much like how unbiased this video is. It's really hard to find a real critique of it because of how infamous Dream has become in certain communities.

Donno why the stans would find this a bad review, he made some good points and even said the song was pretty good, I agree.
the reason the animation is so bad is likely because the people who made it do not actually specialise in that style, since they're _minecraft animators_ meaning they were made to do something completely outside their comfort zone for the video, which they did well enough for a clear first attempt.
Honestly, Dream should have just went with the Minecraft style since he's a Minecraft UA-camr and that's what the animators specialize in. I guess he wanted to do a more "realistic" art style since this is supposed to be a serious music video.

Seeing the vid credits, Xoriak was a big part of this production. I watched his behind the scenes stream after the release.
Apparently Phyre productions originally requested permission to animate CG5's I See A Dreamer, but were not taken up on the offer. They were contacted again later for Mask. According to Xoriak, Dream was very involved initially, especially regarding his character model, but as time went on he became more distant until Xoriak was unable to contact him regarding the final renders. Not sure if Dream actually watched the final product before it was uploaded.
In the end they just put in what he told them to put in.

@@maximumpink8487 phyre as a whole was stoked to have such a high profile client, though obviously they're not a professional studio. In the end it just seems like a lack of oversight by dream, combined with a deadline, and people's natural skepticism towards Dream contributed to the vid arriving, and being received as it did.
The comparisons to fnaf are kinda funny tho. Xoriak is a former fnaf sfm animator.

The dropping the pills thing is based on a true story from dreams life, he said in an interview that he has ADHD and was prescribed pills but they made him unhappy and uncreative so he poured them down the sink and started focusing on things that gave him happynes like minecraft, but he himself stated in the same interview that he dosen't know whether that was smart or not, and isn't incouraging it. I like his content and I don't care about the drama behind him but yhea it has to be the worst music video I ever seen.

Honestly if I had any skill on animation (which I'm going to learn with time). I would make a remake of this, it had potential, but the people/person doing this animation are more used to blocky animation than actually using human proportions, which you can go cartoonic with it, in the end, this looked weird.

To the throwing away medication part: I got medication after a diagnosis of ADHD and realized how I started to feel worse so we went to another doctor who sent me to a neurologist where I actually got diagnosed with what I actually had which was a form of epilepsy. Please don't just throw away you pills and if they make you feel worse reach out to another medical professional or ask for a similar medication from another brand because of the possibility of side effects. Don't just throw them away and try to go through the day.
It's nice to see a review with a point of view which the person isn't too familiar with the UA-camr, so there's no bias against or for the main topic; a review that just focuses on the video for what it is.
My dumb brain thought this was made with Dreams on PlayStation for a couple of seconds.

It's just deeply ugly to me, but the worst part is I can tell these people can actually animate but were forced way way WAY out of their comfort zone and I feel infinite sadness they had to deliver this, as they had no other options.

Just a reminder that this is dreams fault and not the animators. He hired them when most weren't 3d animators and barely managed the project at all. Animation mistakes were dew to limited time and not being to fix them and re render the scene while meeting the deadline. I feel for the animators since they did there best with really rough circumstances
And the fact that the animators who worked on this don't specialize in animating people. What I mean is, the animators behind this only make minecraft animations so It's hard to try and change their whole style to make the music video and as best as they can.
So I learned about Dream from Anthony Padilla's interview with him, and he seems like an alright person. To explain the glasses thing, he said that when he was younger, he was having trouble in school due to ADHD. No one was able to figure that out, and they perscribed him to get glasses because they just thought that he couldn't see, and that was the only reason why he was failing. There's more, but this music video is... messy. I do hope that he learns from this though and gets better. I'd rather see someone grow and improve then try to bully them off the internet, like a fucking witch hunt.

His message is extremely harmful and worrisome, no matter how much you hate your meds you should never, NEVER, stop taking them without consulting a doctor first. The withdrawal symptoms can make you really sick and in some situations worse off than before. I know, I stopped taking my meds and was so sick I couldn’t even stand. Don’t do it, tell your doctor you don’t think they’re working and they can take you off of them safely.

i think what ruined the animation in this video is the fact that dream hired minecraft animators to make it. u know, animators who specialize in animating minecraft style characters and environments. they were way out of their normal range when animating this video

Guys please do me a huge favor and do *NOT* go off any kind of medication without asking a doctor.
I threw my meds in the trash and I used to take 7-8 medicines a day,I basically lost my shit.
The most ironic thing is that six months later the doctor actually removed six of them.
However I also have chronical DumBitchItis and for some reason I still "Accidentally" skip them. So from experience experience don't do like I do and stop playing medical Russian roulette with yourself.
The reason this exist it because of some sort of drama with the artist of a previous music video with the same song...

Coming off medication is a slow process you need to do under doctor supervision
It's not just physical withdrawals to look out for, but extreme elevation in anxiety, insomnia and even suicidal ideation
The idea that medication for mental health is a stifling to you as a person, your individuality, creativity, a sign of weakness etc, is a frustratingly harmful one
If you dont think less of a diabetic for needing insulin, dont think less of yourself for needing antidepressants or anti-anxieties
I think it's true that medication isn't for everyone. But getting off your medication needs to be done in a responsible manner in cooperation with your doctor/therapist, it really shouldn't be done cold turkey.
And Dream acting like his real-life experiences apply to everybody, and whether he intended to or not, saying that stopping your meds is a good idea to his child audience because "oooh they're oppressive normal pills that society gives you to stop being yourself" is genuinely dangerous. Between this and his recent merch fiasco, I just think he should stop trying to speak on big issues like this before he makes more of an ass of himself.
