Love what john said @ 14:55, it's really true.. As someone that doesnt "bai nian" since 6 years old due to broken family, it really means alot even if people like us pushed it away out of embarassment or really busy :))
Parents should teach their chn to say “pls” & “thank you”
I understand how John felt. One of our nephew said this when we gave him a tener. He opened the red packet & took out the tener & said “I already have many of this” but not saying thank you. His parents just smiled.

WAH. that point on giving ang pao to rude kids. On point. I don't understand. I grew up with my parents teaching me to greet my elders, what more during CNY. I cannot say it out because these are my cousin's children....

Wow, I really relate to the mixed feelings about Chinese New Year. Love the family time, but those personal questions from relatives can be tough! Your video hit home for me.
Also, your comments on Jordan Peterson resonated. I'm surprised more of my friends don't know his work. And seriously, I knew before even hitting play that you'd mention inviting friends! I've been trying to implement that, but it's a real hurdle for me.
I've got a few questions, and maybe we can spark a discussion:
- Inviting Friends: My family celebrations are pretty closed to just us. Awkward for my friends AND my family, right? How did you start doing this when your parents were still the 'heads' of the HOUSE? Did you feel super awkward at first?
- Jordan Peterson: I'd love an episode on how you discovered Peterson and what your biggest takeaways are. Has Pat checked out any of his stuff? Curious how you'd encourage others to learn from him.
Also, your video made me so grateful for my family celebrations, even the hectic parts. Some people would love to have that. Thanks for the perspective shift!

haha sometimes its not about making sense, its more of enjoying the vibe haha cz i feel as you grow older and everyone gets busy with life, there'll probably be nobody to toss the yu sheng together haha. imagine just 2 of you trying to toss it and then shouting huat ah just so to reminisce it ... but even before that happen, either party will be like 'toss for what, 2 of us only, waste time' hahahha LOL

ive seen a vlog recently on yt,... they had like idk maybe 45-50 red envelopes with like 2 $50 dollar notes in them.... then the mother of this couple got a fold out red envelope with like $600 total in it... i dont understand how CNY works n all but i think to most people its PURELY a cash grab IMHO... maybe im just an ignorant american but i would seriously skip it... idc about the money n i hate dealing with my own family!! 🤣🤣

eh if the kid nv find you to wish you, you don't need to give lah. i bet the kid also feels the same tbh - they nv find you cuz they shy and rather not have the ang bao.
agree that the money focus is v bad. after working for a bit, i realise a lot of people worship money and lose their humanity. getting a bit sick, like they're possessed.
and yeah lah, u guys should undink. i think ur overthinking the shower thing lah. if ur dual income, usually will get a helper to help lah. or even to clean the house.

@@JOHNPATCROSS just tell them, ya lor i prepared ang bao alr, but ur kid nv come wish me. next year ask ur kid come to bai nian then i give double. like that lor, make it light hearten but make sure they get the message that they aren't doing their job. when they see other kids ang bao but theirs don't have, they will know its not that u stingy, but that they nv do properly.
i mean helper in general once u have the kid, full time. i think in general unless u rely on parents and in laws, dual income is not possible for kid without helper.
