When I was an MOE teacher , I felt very stressed and I quit exactly right after my 3 year bond ( during the June holidays I quit. I couldn't even be bothered with waiting till the 4th year of teaching to get the big fat bonus , because life was just too miserable to exchange it for money. Quitting a job shows how much we truly care for ourselves.

100% agree. Not that money don’t matter but mental health is not worth the money sometimes. Life is too short to focus just on money.

Omg hearing the reason why you quit, resonate so much with my experience. My job is not air steward. It's still a uniform job. I finished my bond. And I am really like feeling the exact things you mentioned, less crying. Easily Irritated and feeling that I don't have enough time for myself. A lot of people were against the idea of me quitting before securing a new job. But I feel like, I just can't do it anymore you know? Like it's getting to a point where the mental health is literally affecting my physical health. I am like getting headaches and fever from the stress and the moods. I guess knowing that there are people out there, who experienced this before and had the courage to make the same decision I did, make me feel a bit better about my decision. I mean a job that decreases your quality of life should not be a job that you stay at right?

Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ Had a similar experience, I had the opportunity to study overseas for university, felt like a dream come true. But it was the opposite, came back after a month, felt absolutely miserable there, and didn’t know why I felt that way, never felt so mentally and emotionally weak in my life. It’s an opportunity others will kill for, and I just wasted my chance like that. I still feel a lot of regret, lost a lot of confidence, always thinking of what ifs, and feel sad from time to time when thinking back although this happened about 8 years ago.

Personally I observed that Workplace Bullying seemed to be the Norm in Singapore’s work environments. Not just in the Airlines.
Doesn’t help that the Unions there are basically for window dressings or simply just another COVERT HR department representing the companies’ interests instead.
Alot of toxic work environment over there with no authentic protection for employees.

Thank you for sharing Pat. I have almost the same exact experience/sentiments to my current job and have only ever had these feelings when I had one of my internships. Funny enough, both jobs are in hospitality line, I've mainly had customer service jobs and I do enjoy this line but I guess hospitality just isn't it for me haha. On top of feeling exactly as you described in the video, it's also depressing having to suppress the feeling of not being happy about work but told constantly to put up a front because "work will always be hard". But people just can't seem to understand that it's not a good days bad days situation, it's constantly feeling that everyday is a bad day and you just can't shake this feeling off.

Pat it's actually quite interesting that you never actually faced any hostile treatment, but that your struggle was mainly with the ANTICIPATION and FEAR of hostile treatment. I feel like therapy or psychological coaching could probably have helped with that, by adjusting one's perspective/mindset, aside from just prescribing anti-depressants. But yes, ultimately, it sounds like the job wasn't a good fit if you prefer routine and need the frequent company of family members and friends.

I imagine it's a lot like having to book-in for NS. also that it's a lonely job (probably why it hit u harder cuz u seem like the kind who needs to spend time with loved ones a lot). so unless u like to be alone and travel/explore, it doesn't really outweigh those downsides. and also I find that only people who don't get to travel much will like traveling. once your work involves flying a lot - it's really damn bloody sian one. not like you're sitting first class.

I think what makes flying with SQ so stressful sometimes are the way cabin crew members treat each other....which is unfortunate.
