Berserk 365. Crazy to think that this decision has been made and it's coming to us so soon since announcement, but soon enough we'll see what Miura's close friend remembers from their intimate discussions on the future of the series. I'll be happy with whatever we receive from here on out, but let me know your thoughts below!

I'm not expecting perfection. I just want an ending. Even if it isn't exactly what Miura has intended so long as it is generally what Miura was intending then I am content with that.

We should never expect perfection. Miura himself had reconsiderations of some plot elements (like that whole chapter which was discarded). What we need, as you said, is a conclusion which gives justice to Miura’s intentions and the characters we’ve adventured together with for so, so long. I’m truly glad this is happening. If there is an afterlife, Miura is no doubt smiling now.
The fact that his best friend wanted to continue it because he respect him truly speaks volumes and berserk is in good hands

I only hope they don't rush anything and just tell a great story, I hope they honor Miura and Berserk.
It will most likely be more truncated than Miura's story telling. Miura would go off on these tangents that I am imagining weren't original parts of his road map. So I think the last arc will likely be a short one.
But I think I'm ok with that as long as they TRY to tell it like Miura as much as possible.
I'll take it, actually overjoyed that one of his best friends will be continuing it in his honor. So awesome that his original studio is going to be doing the work as well. I'm glad to hear they won't be expanding on anything he wasn't told and seems they will be getting right to the point of it all. It sounds to me like this will be being done correctly, and even if we don't like the continuation then we can always consider 364 as the real ending anyway. I'd like to think tho that the even tho it won't be the same, it will be in some manner what Miura has passed down.
Regardless of whether or not you like it, the ending we get will be the one Miura intended. Mori has known how the series would end since the 90s.
I think they should spend at least ten - twenty years on a newly invented adventure involving a trip to a parallel dimension wherein they have to battle an evil clown lord and an army of mustachioed gentleman to escape

Miura literally told him the whole story and ending to berserk. He said since he helped miura with the eclipse arc and he told him the whole story and ending, miura hasnt gone off course, he stayed true to what he told his friend so we ARE getting the ending miura had in mind
Right! Maybe not visually unless there was a drawn draft but we will get the story MK intended.
They said there will be six more chapters left in the Fantasia Arc: Elf Island chapter, not six chapters until the end of Fantasia.
Millennium Falcon Arc from Zodd in the hill of swords to the Berserker Armor was the Holy Demon War chapter, from then on it was called the Falconia Chapter. Same with Conviction: Lost Children, Binding Chain and Birth Ceremony.
We're actually getting the second half of Fantasia.
Well to be fair, they did say "There'll be six chapters left in the Elf Island chapter, and then we'll start a new arc." Which kind of implies that the next arc comes after the 6 chapters...
I am equally scared and happy about this news!! I hope Koji Mori and Miura's assistants will be able to do it justice!
I think it will be just fine. Maybe not as good as Miura's, but you can tell there's a lot of love in this. And that will make it good

This aged poorly
In the Art History we will remember it , and manga and anime fans are not used of this but if you are cinephile, read novels, and comics from around the world etc... you are already used that artists and authors change, even when the creator is not dead, its even a sign of big respect and honor that peoples dont abondon the workd of an dead artists
I remember the wheel of time after the author died his wife search someone to end his novel (if I dont mistake its the wheel of time)
Miura dedicated his whole life to Berserk that it would be a shame his work is not finish
The decision to continue the story is awesome and also a relief for me. It was too painful to accept the sudden stop after all this time with exorbitant hiatuses. There were still so many questions and I wanted to travel alongside Guts like before, so these news make me incredibly happy!
Actually I think six chapters to close fantasia sounds pretty legit. The arc has been going on a long while, now the status quo we had reached has just been upset, and the whole goal if the arc, healing casca, has been achieved. It would seem like the stiry was already on its way to roll into its next big narrative direction, not much left to do on the island regardless, and a lot can happen in six chapters. If Miura's team had a clear idea about what was gonna happen in the future of the series, it'd be certainly about the immediate future of the next few chapters. It's likely they're gonna have to start using bits and pieces more and more as time goes on, but likely not right away. I mean, it's highly unlikely they'd finish working on a chapter after months and be entirely in the dark about what happens in the immediate following ones, it's not like Miura slipped them notes from behind a locked door or anything. If anything good comedls of this, I am at least reasonably certain that this cliffhanger will be resolved by Miura's design, later on, it might very well go down in the shitter but at least we'll get a few chapters out of it in the way they were intended originally
It's an incredibly beautiful fact that it's Miura's best friend who's continuing this masterpiece and bring it to a close in honor of Miura. I'll never get over that. Mori and Miura's assistants have my full support and along with all my respect for taking on this challenge.
Read the letter carefully it does not say that after the elf island arc there will only be one arc left it just says that they will start a new arc.

To touch up on the "swing first, talk later" thing you mentioned. I hope that they actually have Guts talk to Griffith first, then engage in a fight, even something as miniscule as "wheres the boy" or some other dialogue. It would signify Guts changing as a person
I think Guts will likely think first this time. It's kind of his whole Arc. He's more likely to run away and protect Casca than start an all out battle.
BUT. if some of Griffith's monsters show up.. he will have to fight them.

This might be anti climatic but I have a feeling that Guts won’t swing, I think realizing Griffith is the moon child and the moon child is his son, he’s going to have to do what every person should; leave the past in the past. Him getting revenge and killing Griffith will only ensure he has no happiness left in his life, he has to accept the pain as part of his past and try to live his future the best he can. The skull knight told him that what he wants may not be Casca’s wish, and while a lot of us assumed that meant them being together, I think it meant his revenge. All killing Griffith will do is hurt Casca more, to a point of no repair. He fought for Midland once, he’s now safe (enough) on Elf Helm, he needs to accept he couldn’t save TBOTH and he can’t save the world now. All he can do is fight off hell every night, let go of his hatred and live for the moments he gets with Casca and their child on the nights of the full moon.
I wrote something similar in a comment a few months ago. The whole story has been watching Guts change as a person and he has changed a lot in many ways. I think that the joy of having Casca back and understanding the Moonlight Child will change him even more. He isn't the vengeful, singularly-focused warrior he was before. He has become a father to a family of travelers. Revenge won't fulfill him like he thought he would. Protecting those he cares about is more important now. And his foil Skull Knight who is a focused avenger is not who he wants to become. I think the end will have a lot to do with letting go. Possibly redemption for Femto/Griffith or maybe death - but not a vengeful killing. A necessary release perhaps. Or even a reluctant one. Or maybe Casca will do it. What matters is that Guts finally has a family again and he will not lose them like he did The Band Of The Hawk. I see quiet moments in his future. Rest. Peace with Casca. I don't quite know how the brands of sacrifice will be resolved in order for that to happen but I think there is a way.
It would be poetic. The man who had so much hate in his heart chooses not to use it. The opposite of Griffith.
I think Griffith is going to get a lot of karma though. Guts beat Griffith once by being completely calm perhaps it will happen again.
But once they die they'll still go to "hell" though?

For some reason since Miura's passing I always thought that during all those long hiatus he drew all the sketches, all the rough storyboards and even did all the dialogue up to the very end of the book. Maybe this is just some wishful thinking far-fetched hypothesis of the fanboy within me, but at the same time considering the discipline and work ethic of our Japanese Brothers and Sisters, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
If that IS in fact the case, it also doesn't surprise me that Mori, Gaga and Hakusensha are saying that Miura just talked to Mori, I think is the smartest move cause if they said Miura drew everything in rough form. I think people will lose their minds and maybe some might want to stole the manuscripts. One can only hope for the best, for sure.
You know what? I don't think it's the right move to abandon all the side characters and neuter any form of character development except for Guts, Griffith, Casca, and Skull Knight. I think that would just cheapen the impact of the story, and even if we reach the ending that Miura wanted, it won't be built up to in the way he wanted. It will feel even more different. I understand not wanting to take creative liberties on a story that isn't yours, but it's going to be necessary if we want anywhere near the same quality of writing as Miura.
I agree that if Mori didn't have a banger of an ending to tell, he probably wouldn't want to take this on. It's such a good ending that he feels compelled to spend who knows how many more years of his life telling it.
But.. it's Miura's ending, Mori was just told of it
I'm excited to see the series continue. As an artist, if I had given most of my life to constructing this massive story but died unexpectedly, I would want someone trusted to give it the ending it deserves. I'm really hoping Mori knows enough and has the directorial vision required to bring the ending to life the way Miura would've wanted if only he could've been with us a while longer.
I still cannot believe that two of my favorite manga Berserk and HunterxHunter have been announced to return after such a long time. It really warms my heart to know that Miura is taking on this huge undertaking out of the respect and love that he shared for his friend and his work. I feel so grateful that we are getting a continuation of the story and I think we should all understand how difficult this must be for Miura to live up to the expectations set for him by doing this.
I wonder what role Guts weakening condition would have played? We now have Casca back and makes me wonder if Muira was going to start having guts journey reflect his own where guts needs to start relying on other people more to do the fighting. Would be almost perfect analogy for how Mori and studio Gaga are carrying on Muiras work.
As a person who has been reading both manga and western comics for a long time, that stories continue beyond the creators is nothing new for me. Sometimes the ideas grow beyond the creator's initial stories, say Batman or any of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's creations. And that Miura’s assistants and closest friend is concluding it, I'm fairly sure that they will do their best job. Will it be as great as if Miura had finished it? Probably not. But I'm excited to see what they come up with.
Miura himself would not have been pleased with anything less than perfection for every chapter, which is why I'm a bit apprehensive about about the coming chapters. But I guess Miura would want us to know how the story would continue and I cannot imagine a better team handling it.

He may not be Miura, and he may not get it perfect.. but I am hoping the same standards will apply.

Feels like a dream
I’m actually wondering if some parts of the Delay announcement to berserker status were staff members and Mori deciding to see if they should finish it as a manga or a novel, cause if someone knew the ending, it would be a great gesture to let their friends story be finish being told regardless of medium. I still wish the best for them, and I can tell it was a tough decision to make.
Also I know people some people hate those who wanted it to continue but some of fans who wanted it to be left untouched are actually getting very self righteously annoying about keeping it unfinished, I understand if you want the artist vision to stay as it is. But my god some of these people felt like Miura’s passing was part of the story of berserk and actually interpreted him and his life as part of it’s story. The man kept to himself so let’s not put any words in his mouth, what his friend is doing, is way different from what a fan who reads a bunch translated articles thinks should be done.
They were most certainly doing a "trial workflow" to bust out a few chapters to see if this situation was workable. That much is evident. They held off on announcing it until they knew they could do something that's quality. And that is encouraging.
If Mori can't say with certainty what Miura's wishes would have been, then who can? I trust the guy who was best friends with him for 40 years... and not some pissed off weirdos on the internet.
Cautiously optimistic! I think the people who are taking on the responsibility are the best ones for the job. Considering they were friends and colleagues with the master himself for many years, with someone even working on Berserk alongside him, I can't imagine them taking on this task if they weren't intent on honoring his life by concluding his life's work.
So Berserk AND HxH are coming back? The greatest manga and the greatest anime????? Wtf thank you God??

Holyland holds a special place in my heart and he's one of my favourite mangaka's of all time because of it. So I'm excited for this.

I'm happy about the return. I understand that many will argue that this won't be the exact ending Muira would have created, for how could one recreate the creative process of unique storytelling? However, Kouji Mori seems determined to carry Muira's legacy. I respect his efforts. Let's give him and the artists working on the story grace.
I think we'll see a drop in quality, but I think it'll still be good.

I didn't read it as the next arc being the final arc and I'm not sure how you did. All they said is they are starting a new arc after the conclusion of Fantasia. We do not know how much story is left.

I'm still in shock that it's gonna continue. However, i find it somewhat ironic that it's continuin without Miura. I mean this as Berserk teaches us that no matter how much ya fight to get back what isn't here anymore it will never be the same.

I don't get this big sentiment. The berserk that was purely created by Miura will always be there, you can always see this as a 2.0 and doesn't infiltrate with head canon at all. Why be moody in the slightest about its continuation?

Well of course we'll never know precisely how the story would've ended if Miura had carried it to completion. Even if he had outlined and sketched out the entire thing before he passed because as with any creative endeavor, the more you chip away at something, the more it evolves and sometimes you realize the thing you've been working on for hours and sometimes days is not as good as you originally thought it was and you decide to scrap it and start over or redo many aspects of it. Especially if it's a passion project and even more so if you're a perfectionist like Miura... So who's to say if the ending he had in mind is the ending we would've read in the final pages once he worked at it for several hundred more hours?
But!
That being said, I do have hope that the people handling the rest of the story will do a decent job and will respect Miura's legacy and vision as much as possible.
I don’t expect it for perfect because nothing is perfect. I love Berserk and I would love to see it get an ending.

i could never see 264 as an actual ending . guts never did a proper conversation with caska . after all that our boy suffer . seeing him alone watching all his family being together without him cause caska would get ptsd if she saw him . that is too painful for be the end

I don't think we should see this as the 'continuation' of Berserk, but a tribute to the story and to Miura. The only way we can know what would have happened next. Berserk ended. But the story didn't.
I don't believe a word of this. Kentaro was famous for keeping any aspect of the story not yet produced to himself even to people working right beside him. This is just too convenient especially after searching his estate for any writing that gave the ending and not saying they found anything. This just seems like a corporate lie.
Studio Gaga can replicate his style and his best friend knows all the story beats I'm sold on this project and I would like them to go all out on crazy like Berserk always went for it.No sense in pussyfooting around with it.

I wish they would include a subtitle to more clearly and cleanly differentiate that this is not the original Berserk, but at the very least there’s a clean volume break.
the most fun part of berserk is getting the little interactions betwwen the chracters and hints and foreshadowing and symbolism that miura did so well its hard to believe mori knows all the details but if its really hours long convos over 20 years between them about the story then its close to possible i bet mori knows half of the details of whats going to happen for example the prostitutes of the albion does mori know how their story will end i doubt it the story has so many chrarcters and mysteries and all of them need to be wrapped thats why i think berserk has ended but i dont mind getting what mori knows about the general plot to see if some of my theories were correct

So I feel this final arc will be seen as a celebration of Miura's life and everything berserk is.

I’m glad Miura’s masterpiece will be getting the ending it deserves. I hope the elements from the main cast will be resolved; SK’s and the Sword of Actuation’s role, the OG Behelit from The Count, Guts using the DS to fight Griffith and the thorns around Casca’s heart/ her seeing Guts as an Apostle leaving her.
The news was quite a surprise. Especially on top of HXH coming back. I’m currently withholding my opinion of the continuation until I see a new chapter. But I’m hoping for the best.
I think I should say this now that Berserk is officially coming back. I do not believe Guts will kill Griffith. I do not believe they will reconcile. Frankly, I think Miura was going to something else with them. Fantasia is an arc where dreams become reality. You see this with Guts and Casca, you see this with Griffith and his city. They finally accomplished their goals. But reality can often be sadder than expected. Casca is dealing with the full weight of her Eclipse PTSD. The pirates live once more but as vessels for an ancient sea monster. Now, the last piece is Griffith. His dream will go array. I don't see that as a form of catharsis or karma. I think he was setting up the price of their dreams and how much they were willing to struggle to attain it and what they will do afterwards. Their paths have already parted the moment Guts walked away from the tower of conviction. We follow their stories because the story needs a parallel to our struggler.
Man. I don't know what I think about this... either way, it doesn't matter. Man gets respect for doing this at all. That's a damned powerful friendship.

I predicted this also. I believe I said that after a respectable period.. they will eventually get together and decide if they should finish it. And I believed they would.
BUT I didn't even consider the Mori angle. Never in my wildest dreams could I have predicted that Miura told the guy, in great detail mind you, all of the major plot points running till the end of the story.
And the cherry on top is that the guy himself is an accomplished manga author. So he already has the necesary skills to produce/direct this thing. With two really good artists who draw like Miura at his disposal. So he has probably already imagined how a lot of this stuff would play out on the page in his mind.
This is the most ideal outcome imaginable.

@@TheAngelmisa It sounds like he talked to them a lot, but never quite went through it all like he did with Mori. You could say Mori was something like a story consultant or something.
Remember guys, if berserk returns, the chances of getting a faithful and acceptable quality adaptation go up. It’s possible.
I think, ultimately, this is the best scenario we could’ve hoped for as fans of berserk.
Personally, I don’t see guts and Griffith fighting. That’s not the journey that we’ve seen guts go on. Black swordsman guts would’ve had instant rage when he saw the transformation, but this guts just had surprise. Griffith pulled an “I miss you” in that last panel, and let’s face it, even if they fought, even with the armour and skull knight helping, Griffith wins.
But, quite frankly, my puny brain can only speculate, but no-one could’ve thought out a proper ending for the series other than Miura himself, and this is the closest we’ll get to having a somewhat canonical ending to this masterpiece, and I’m grateful for that.

It really is the best case scenario following Miura's passing, and I wholeheartedly support his and Miura's assistants' efforts in this. Fingers crossed that they can succeed.

i cant be the only one thinking fantasia was ending very soon with this whole griffith encounter leading into a transition to the final arc, right? like even if miura were here, maybe not 6 but still felt like there wasn't going to be too much left in this arc.
until proven otherwise i have faith in miuras hand picked and trained team along with his best friend who obviously cares about this so much, like i dont think he would do this if he didn't think he could do this.

It's weird to me that people find this "unexpected", considering the Godfather of Fantasy, J.R.R. Tolkien had his work finished by his son and that the Wheel of Time series was finished as well... Like, it's not really unheard of.
Its a little bit different in Japan. It is considered IMMENSLEY disrespectful to continue someone's work after they die, unless they leave EXPLICIT instructions to do so (see: Familiar of Zero) which is why when a creator dies, their series dies with them (see: Highschool of the Dead and until recently, the expectation with Berserk). Even in the case of characters, if a VA dies or no longer wishes to work on a character, the VA is not replaced, that character gets written out (see: a myriad of Pokemon characters but most notably, Misty) unless they happen to be vital to the plot of the series.
Believe me, people were rightfully nervous for years about Miura dying before Berserk was completed due to his notorious obsession with perfection. The same things that made Berserk arguably the greatest series ever made are also the ones that made it a colossal undertaking to create. Then, when he actually DID die, after the shock of his sudden passing wore off, people turned to the inevitable question of "Is this it for Berserk?" Assuming he did want the work continued, its not like just anyone could do it. This is Berserk. After all, any mangaka no matter how legendary in their own right, would be stepping into the shoes of arguably the greatest to ever live, in the attempt to continue arguably the greatest work of the profession.
This is also why, despite the fact that it truly is glorious news that Berserk is continuing, there is some degree of apprehension and uncertainty. Can Mori, a well regarded mangaka himself, continue what Miura created in a way that would have been acceptable for Miura? Can he and the team working on it meet those standards? Are people gonna lose their minds if Miura's planned ending isn't what they thought it would be? Are they gonna try to blame Mori for it? These are real questions.

The magazine is bi-monthly (twice a month), and there are two on the 24th only because it happens to be the time of year where the mag does a double issue, so in theory this revival is looking to be twice a month, just like Miura of yore.
