SORTEDfood The colour was perfect, but the method of making the mixture was in the wrong order. Start by whisking the egg and Greek yogurt, then add saffron, salt and pepper, mix again, finally fold in the rice. This way, you prevent breaking the individual grains of rice.
As a Persian, we want our rice to be very long and not sicky; no exceptions (bar rice pudding)
Hope to see more Persian recipes here soon. More than happy to help you guys out for this!!!! Feel free to reach out to me👍

Can I just say that Jamie has really been showing he has multitasking down? Like, as a manager in a professional kitchen, multitasking and keeping up with several things is one of the most important skills going, and his ability to just prepare well executed dishes is far more useful in a kitchen than the creativity of the other 2 (again, strictly from a professional kitchen standpoint; creativity is much less valuable on a line than consistant execution)

    • @chaosic08

I agree that while Jamie usually sticks to tried and true flavors and may not be as fancy or creative with his cooking as the rest, he's usually the most consistent and well-prepared when he cooks. In episodes like these where they can prepare (basically not pass-it-ons), he's usually the one with the least panic and is the most organized.

@@chaosic08 Well, when he doesn't have a surprise speedball thrown at him by either a change in task or a mistake somewhere. He's done his share of floundering, but I think it's made him better at being unflappable when a surprise rears its head. Mike and Barry have a tendency to take a moment panicking, which isn't good in a timed contest (or in a busy professional kitchen).

Sadly, this is the reality for people who have to buy groceries with a tight budget. We usually don’t get a good price/product ratio, or can make the healthier, smarter or more environmentally friendly choices, because the small budget won’t allow us to, for example, buy five pounds of rice for $4, since we can only afford one pound-bag for $1.50. In the end, we end up paying more for less product and more packaging that harms our environment and our wallet.

It is a staple meal, using staple ingredients. Mike's dish can have leftovers. It can be reheated later. @@b4history32 yeah I’ll say Barry made up for his lack of contribution towards the meringue badge with that one. Wasn’t perfect but he did it

The packet rice @6:24 was actually an excellent example of the cost of poverty, like buying a cheap pair of shoes three times in ten years vs. one nice pair in the same time. Having to settle for what you can afford in the moment

Heres an idea for future battles: As someone who has to survive months with less than 50$ CAD for food, i have to cook with the same boring ingredients quite often because thats what i get from the food banks. So i would love to see you guys attempt to make 3 different meals with the same 5 ingredients without adding anything else but cheap spices and flour/butter/milk. The biggest challenge when you cant afford food is to not get bored from the same ingredients week after week so you often have to get really creative in order to get some flavour profiles you cant afford. Chears!

@@nanoflower1 They're bullying him even when he doesn't do anything yet, though. Like, sure, at first it was funny because he *is* quite cocky at times, but now it just constantly happens. . .
Plus, this applies to the badges as well - when Jamie messes up (not this video) and forgets things, he keeps his badges - Barry, on the other hand, gets his taken away. And in this case, it could've just been ruled that it's 50-50 and no losers.

I mean, I think it’s equal opportunity bullying to a degree. It kind of rotates - awhile ago it was bullying Mike, and before that they were constantly poking at Jamie ;)
