- The Jedi are real. They existed a long time ago; not in a galaxy far far away, but here on this planet. Better known to us as the samurai.
It’s no secret that Star Wars creator George Lucas drew inspiration from samurai films like Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress, but the similarities between the Jedi and samurai aren’t just drawn from fiction.
In this week’s episode of True Fiction, Kurt Indovina traces the threads of George Lucas’s inspiration back to 17th century feudal Japan, and its impact on popular culture as a whole, including ancient belief systems, like Shintoism and Bushido, and how they align with the way of the Jedi. - Розваги

This was super cool! I've always tried to make connections between Jedi and real life. Especially its origins and how we can all try to live by the Jedi ways (and I don't mean the Jedi Order that became blinded by politics and war..)
This series is good as, but i would say when i was watching the jackie chan one i wanted it to go longer, theres so much more info you guys keep locked in the true fiction files, we have to know, even this one will be good as, but this series should be 30 mins at least, thank you guys rock! also love the legion break downs ect

It is a very interesting topic worth investigating more. I was expecting however some discussion on other aspects like:
(i) the black armour of Darth Vader which resembles a lot Samurai armour; at the Samurai Museum in Tokyo they say it was supposedly inspired from Oda Nobunaga's all-black armour. I'm not sure Nobunaga truly wore a totally black armour but Vader's armour is definitely inspired from all-black Samurai armour.
(ii) The political aspect of both orders: the parallelism also fits in that the Jedi served a separate and superior political power (the Republic/Chancellor) as much as the Samurai served ultimately a non-samurai, the Shogun was subservient to the Japanese emperor. They were both the military arm of the state rather than the head of the state.
(iii) the shared spirituality of emotional detachment, neutrality or emptiness as key to an enlightened state of oneness with Kami/the Force. This aspect was hinted in the video yet the emotional side of the Jedi, their supposed lack of attachment to anyone or anything was worth comparing with Zen spirituality.
Hey Xejn! I deeply admire how versed you are in this. I could have definitely gone a little deeper, you're right. For this episode, I wanted to specifically focus on the facts at hand -- there's A LOT of comparisons, but I wanted to keep it honed in on George's immediate influences: samurai films. If season 2 happens, we'll consider making the episodes longer so we can fit even more. Either way, thanks for watching, commenting, and sharing your knowledge.

I'm glad that the Samurai defended the sacred honor of the Jedi and theirs or else Star Wars wouldn't have made it far from 1977 and I never had gotten the activity book with the JEDI patch ❤
