as a bag designer I appreciate all of your pain points that you mention. I'm working on trying to design a cat pack now and I love that you dug right into this!
Awesome! Feel free to contact All About Cats when you're launching it. :)
@@AllAboutCatsYT These transparent bags/ carriers are confusing and stressful for cats. They are too exposed, cats like to hide especially when outside their territory. Plus this material is bad for the environment. This is only good for aesthetics but just stick to a normal mesh carrier. Why was it your number one?
Me too, please. I'm kinda addicted to cat backpacks ❤
It wasn't a ranking list.
Omg please design one. Or many!!!!
I was googling cat backpacks and I was so overwhelmed with all the types. Then I was like, if I know the cat community, there should be a review video. So thank you for making this! I needed this video!
Same i was really confused at first
Good timing! A recent fire in my neighborhood got me here. I realized that in an emergency I don’t have an easy way to secure my cat. The usual carrier is not hands free and I can imagine in a house fire or any other type of emergency I need to be hands free and secure my cat on me. Not sure if there is an emergency style carrier but I’m thinking a backpack will be a good option.
We have the Navigator. We purchaded after a couple years with a less comfortable cheap pack. Our cats appreciate the roominess of it. I love that it doesn't dig into my back (much more adjustablility). And, this one certainly feels like a more quality product. Our previous pack was damaged quickly by our cats trying to tear into the pockets for treats. This one, they have been able to unzip it to try to get to the treats I carry...but, this bag sustained zero damage in the process.
I've found some reviews on the Your Cat Backpack website mentioned that the cord to clip your cat into the backpack isn't long enough for the cat to lie down. How do you find this feature is with your cat? Does it limit lying down only when the backpack is carried vertical on the back, as opposed to like a duffel bag?
For anyone looking for an airplane safe backpack carrier!!
I recommend the Mr. Peanuts Vancouver Series pet backpack for people with smaller cats/dogs! I purchased it a few months ago and have taken my cat out in in a couple of times. I am very happy with it and my cat seems comfortable with it too! It is airplane safe, which is the main reason I chose this particular carrier. I have not tested it out for air travel YET, but I might will soon. The quality seems pretty durable for regular use so far! It has 3 mesh windows, and two of them are entry points. The zippers don't have locks but are nearly impossible to push open from the inside of the carrier (I tested it myself). On the outside there's a water bottle carrying slot, a big zippered pocket, a tinier pocket, and a conveniently placed waste bag slot (which would be more helpful if I had a dog). It also comes with an extra strap and doubles as a regular carrier. Its not uncomfortable for me to wear and I usually wear it as a front pack so I could see my cat. she is about 8 pounds and can snuggly curl up in it. She can't fully spread out though- unless the backpack is on its side (in the regular carrier mode). The tether is long and attached to the bag low enough that she can move around comfortably with it attached to her harness. I will say that it might be too small for a larger cat. Luckily for me, my cat is soon to be 2 years old, so she probably won't be getting bigger any time soon! :)
My biggest issue with it is that when its used as a regular carrier, the backpack straps kind of just dangle there. It's not too big of an issue though. Just a little bit annoying.
It was $53 when I purchased it but the price may have gone up since then. They also sent a little travel water bowl as a present!
I hope this helps someone out!!!
Thanks for the tip! Cheapest one is $69 on amazon
i’ve been waiting for this! thanks!
This is so helpful. Thank you for posting!
This is not a backpack comment, but remember that video you did on the litter mats? The iPremio's I ordered are EXCELLENT! I ordered two of the largest ones and not only do they work as advertised, but they're so cushy that some of the cats like to use them as pads to just lay on! I've just ordered two more of the smaller ones for a couple of boxes in smaller spaces to see how they'll work out.
Wait there is litter mats ? Lol
@@pandandthundercat Yeah. I'd share the link but every time I do now, UA-cam bans me from commenting for 24 hours.
why not just comment this on the relevant video?
Hey Mallory, I appreciate your helpful information on cat backpacks.
Thank you, I have been looking for a good way to travel with my cat through airports and on the plane with me. You do a fantastic job with all of your videos, extremely informative. 😻🌟❤🥰
I’m glad the Texsens was on your list! We bought it several months ago and we love it. Our cats are 10 and 13 lbs. and both fit comfortably inside. They easily get in or out through the side or the front openings and carrying it is comfortable enough.
A slightly cheaper outdoors option would be the Kurgo G Train pet backback. I use it for my cat whenever we go for walks - I live in the city and my cat does not like crossing streets, so I carry her in the backpack until we’re in an area where she can walk on a leash. It has a good sized tether and tons of pockets, including a totally separate main pocket that won’t interfere with your cat’s space. When she was younger, I added a small pillow to the bottom so she could see out the opening, but now she fits perfectly. Very comfortable for the human to wear as well as it has a fully padded/adjustable waist strap.
What a cute smile you have . Can we be friends?? Am sure that will make my day
Great vid, thanks a lot for sharing it and loving the kittens!!!! Good luck!
I have the older version of the Texsens backpack. I have a comfy mat on the inside the help with being cozy. I get compliments on it whenever I use it.
I stumbled across your videos while looking for cat food.....I was very pleased with both the amount and clarity of the reviews. Mallory is such a great person to be doing these... she has a great voice and doesn't get over dramatic on presentation like so many other sited screaming for viewers. Mallory needs a raise!!!
Thanks Mallory! So glad you did this review. I’m a first time pet owner and have been searching for reviews, as my little one (munchkin) has been trying to sneak out of my apartment to explore the world 😄. So just purchased the Texsen so I can take it out on walks & let this little curious one see the world 😊
Thanks. Love honest reviews!!!
Always!
bless you for this info
1) thanks Mallory- I have been waiting on this. 2) Wessy in the bubble is hilarious.
Thanks so much for this info! My wife and I just rescued our first cat and we love her so much we want to take her everywhere 😊 this was very helpful!! ❤
5:21 another great expandable backpack for not just the airport, but day to day activities is the “pecute” cat backpack! it’s a reasonable price and it works great! Both of its sides also open for easy entering and exiting for the cat, and it has a expandable back!
One you might want to look into is the one I bought: the Apollo Walker cat carrier. It is a backpack and I’ve found that it has all the features of that first one you mentioned but only $36 on Amazon. I love it for taking her in walks and she really seems to like it too. I’ve had it for over a year. I’m very happy how it sits, for her and for me. It has two pockets. Unzips four ways. Mostly I unzip the top and/or the sides. There is a lower front zip as well. The tether is a decent size. I extend it a smidge by hooking her short leash to her collar and the tether to the leash so when I stop and set down the backpack she can get out and move around a bit. She prefers to stay inside most of the time. At times she can get hot in it cuz it has a top zip mesh but I lay her blanket that lives in there over the top for shade. She likes the blanket for car rides cuz she likes to cuddle with it (cuz she hates being in the car). Thanks for this review. I think your number one choice is the same as mine. But this brand is much more budget friendly. Snd has most of the features of that first one.
Thank you. This was very helpful. 🙂👍
Your cat was so cooperative! He enjoyed himself too it seems. I just use a carrier and it might be easier for me as I have to take the bus to the vets every time. I had a friend that used a regular backpack to put his small cat in for the bus and couldn't imagine doing this!
I absolutely love your channel! 😀❤️
Thanks, Daniel!
Thanks for posting a variety of backpacks. I wish I did more research on backpacks before purchasing our Sherpa Bubble Backpack. Right now, the Sherpa Bubble backpack meets our needs. It is perfect for our 13 month kitten who loves to go outdoors and hates duffle style carriers (he chewed through and tore apart a few of our duffle style carriers on long trips). Our kitten has not been tempted to destroy the Sherpa Bubble, probably because there is less mesh. I am concerned about using the Sherpa backpack in the summer. I am considering one of the backpacks with more mesh. I appreciate the test you did with the pocket knife. That is something that I need to consider when traveling with my 13 month kitten. I recently posted a video showing how my three cats (13 mos, 7yrs, 11yrs) reacted to the Sherpa Bubble. As always, I appreciate your review videos. So thorough and informative.
I’ve been looking into a new backpack for my baby. This vid is helping so much on me making a choice. Thank you so much! We’ve been hiking more and I know he needs space and comfort. And I need back support.
I need a new bag and it was very helpful!! Thank u :)
Great video!
Your baby is so patient! My ginger was feral trying to get him into the carrier to go to the vet Is a challenge💯💯❤️❤️
thank you.so good
My cat hates backpacks!!! 🙀
But, she's comfy in the stroller!!
(Used only for vet visits!!!) 😺
Thank you for all your reviews!! Being a never before pet owner these are so helpful.
I just got the gray mesh Texsens backpack that seems to be working well so far.. kinda wish I had ordered the version with cover flaps to keep the dander from flying around.
The collapsibility feature was a selling point for me as I have a small space.
Wish this bag had a way to secure the covered platform to the base- when it’s laying on its back the floor falls over. As a hack I’m using double stick tape to the bottom and sticking it to the safety leash - it won’t stay stuck to the surface of the base.
Double zipper tags for all the opening would be nice.
Would also be nice if the wide shoulder straps had more utility to it i.e. small pocket and/or key ring for keys, ID etc
I’m training him to get used to traveling and planning to take him on the plane soon so I like that it’s airport approved and there’s a strap on the back to attach to rolling luggage. *fingers crossed*
I'm preparing my cat for airport travel as well. Have you used this backpack for the airplane yet? If so how'd it go?
@@yesyeahyes1 nice..it’s such a significant level of comfort to travel with our kitties. Flying from one coast to the other and back was smooth for the most part. However I did find the width of the backpack didn’t really work for the aisle seats on all aircraft - if you can help it I don’t recommend the aisle anyway as the foot traffic is so close to their body. If you’re going through TSA you can request a private screening so they only scan the bag while you hold kitty. I padded the back with an egg crate cushion and a pee-absorbing mat wrapped with a thin old scarf just in case. Side pockets were perfect for miscellaneous ids etc. Good luck!
@@jemerrific Thanks for your reply!
I LOVE your cat videos ! Best channel on you tube ! Can you please make a video about airline carriers.
I recommend the Apollo walker pet carrier which have good adjustable straps and a clip on for the cat harness inside the backpack, it also have many zipper openings including 4 “windows” and two “doors”.
😀 You are awesome. I'm not sure I would climb a tree with a catpack. But I'm glad you went the extra mile.
I kept meaning to ask if you would possibly do a review of pet carriers rated for air travel. You did include one and I had not seen that one in my search. I think the Jackson one might be rated for air travel as well.
Like I said on your automatic litter box reviews... You should work with a designer/ engineer to create the best cat backpack & automatic cat litter box ! At least we would know we would be getting the best then!
For your last recommendation, I learned that for those clear, hard shell backpacks, there were several incidents that cats died in them due to overheating 🥺 breathability is important but many owners did not know…
I live downtown/ don't drive. Public transit is okay but depending where it can make more sense to walk. Our vet is an example and the hard carrier is a little awkward when the cat moves plus I have 2 cats. If I want to double up a visit I think it will be good to have a backpack for at least one but even solo I hope it is more comfortable for a 20min walk than the carrier
hii...I'm from India, this video is really helpful..after watching your video I finally decided to buy texsens backpack for my cat.
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching.
I have the equivalent of the Mancrew backpack (without the expanding section) and the Voyager backpack for my two cats. I use them as just normal cat carriers for my cats.
My first cat, Artemis, used to be incredibly anxious in the traditional carrier. It was really hard to get her in and out, and she would make a lot of noise while in it. But she doesn't fight getting into the Voyager style backpack and will even just right back in at the end of her vet appointments. It's not perfect. In particular, I'd prefer it to be sturdier, but she does so muc better in it than a normal carrier.
The Mancrew style backpack works for my other cat, Aurora, because she is very wiggly and the large opening on top makes it easier to put her in. I don't think it's very comfortable to carry though, and it's rather flimsy. I do see the slouch forward thing that is demonstrated in the video. I also wish that it had top carrying straps that could hold the bag upright. I far prefer the Voyager style carrier to this one.
Both cats are adult females who weigh about 8.5lbs.
I got a Travel Cat backpack, but I got "The Fat Cat" model. My Kal-El is a double hybrid. He's Savannah and Bengal, so he's a bigger and longer cat.
yay for cat walks! by chance, could you test some cat strollers please?
I have one like the first one I prefer the mess over the plastic because I want them to see as much as possible and breathe normal and I use it to go to the vet and I have a twenty pound cat so I had to add cardboard to the bottom but it is comfortable for both of us. Also my cats sometimes use it to hide from each other, I leave it open so they won't react to it like they do a carrier
Wish you a nice start to the day
Thank you
I totally agree on your opinions of the bubble backpack. Please be really careful when you use it. I once saw someone carried a cat in a bubble backpack, and the cat must've been so stressed in it and even stuck the tongue out.
Thank you for sharing!
Hi thank you for your recommendations, do you think the navigator is okay to travel in a plane with? It looks a little large but my cat is long haired and I want her to be comfy. If not do you have any durable and comfy cat carrier recommendations for planes ?
Thanks. I bought a cat backpack a couple years ago (looked a lot like the voyager) but it turned out to be too small for my 8# cat to lie down. He had to sit up so he could only be in there for very short periods.
How do you feel about the soft sling style cat carriers?
Thank you for the helpful information your provide on the products. Questions: Can you review cat strollers?
They seem so cool especially if you have a dog and cat that are close and the cat indicates that it would like to join in on the dog's daily walks.
Also, it's often much more comfy for a cat to sit in a stroller. There's no jostling from the guardian's gate and they can sit, stand, lay and look around as they please.
I use a backpack and like the safety of my girl being bound to my body but I'm curious about strollers. I've done some research and would love to listen to a review from Mallory. Great suggestion!
Great points. I'm currently looking for a good backpack, that can handle chonky cats, because due to hand injury, I can't carry them in our old cat-bag anymore.
Can you recommend some large kibble cat foods that are still good for cats? Because no matter what I do, my cat hates the tiny kibbles!
would you recommend the Navigator backpack over the sleepypod air? I know they are different categories but I just need one to take my cat places,
I purchased the Day Tripper backpack that holds up to 35 lbs. Where will I carry my cats? To the vet. :) I only purchased a backpack because my Maine Coon is too heavy for the hard plastic carrier I have. I needed something that could hold both of the cats' weights and this one fit that bill. It will be tight for both of them to be in there, but once a year they can do it. I tried walking with one at a time in it, but they freaked out. Kind of glad because it was hard on my back, especially him since he is almost 20 lbs.
I had no clue there was a tether inside. Mine has a pocket for a water bottle and a second zipped pocket. I paid $60-$70, can't remember since I bought it last year. Seems to be well constructed.
I also recommend trying mr peanuts bags they have several types
You should also review the PETKIT Pet Backpack. It seems to be good. It's large, and has a fan and light.
That's the one I use. I needed a year-round pack and this fit the bill. The design is so thoughtful, it's really well made, it's safe, it looks cool and my meowzer loves it.
This was really helpful. Thank you.
Can you please review the PULLNSCOOP Litter Box?
They have a UA-cam channel.
The cat carrier I use is very similar to The Navigator Cat Backpack, it's called PetAmi Pet Carrier Backpack . I really like it because it has multiple entry points for my cat, as well as secured clips so she can't plop out if the zipper were to fail. During the summer, I'd pack my cat and walk over to Central Park and we'd enjoy the morning dew together :) it was always a nice and relaxing time for us
Awww, that's a sweet story. Thanks for sharing your preferred carrier pack and experience with it.
Thanks for the recommendation! Looks like it's less expensive than the navigator. The reviews I'm finding mention it's not comfortable and needs extra padding added to the lower back area
@@yesyeahyes1 I honestly wore it over my chest/stomach so that I could talk to my cat while walking. It isn’t the most comfortable pack but I didn’t walk very long with it
@@localchumb I see, that's helpful to know. I'm trying to decide on a carrier for international airplane travel atm
@@yesyeahyes1 this carrier would probably be too big for plane travel, since it doesn’t fit under the seat. A Sleepypod carrier at be better though. Mallory did a review on it as well if ya wanted to check it out. My cats like snoozing in it too haha
Fig and I hitchhiked to Rocky Point Mexico in that Texan backpack.. trying to figure out if its airline approved for our upcoming trip to Hawaii.. any ideas?
I've seen a number of people on Amazon saying they were able to carry it on during a flight, but as always, the question is whether or not it will work on your chosen airline. You should check their requirements and see if the carrier fits.
too bad in malaysia the options arent many and we have lots of sellers selling the last space backpack. so i got that one and yes the plastic packaging is so hard to remove its frustrating
Have you had a chance to try out any of the double compartment cat backpacks? I have two cats, one of them cant be alone so i have yet to buy a backpack for them because i want one that can fix both of them!
It would be nice if there were a cat backpack with a waist support for us older folks with back problems.
Our indoor Calico doesn’t go out at all. To carry her out to the motorhome when we ho on trips I wrap her in a small blanket(that has her smells on it), and it’s a fight until I put her in the rear on the bed. She is 14.5 yrs old. (Grade 4 heart murmur but no health issues). Would taking her out in a backpack just be way too stressful?
I’m no expert but that does seems stressful for an older cat who doesn’t like to be moved or be outdoors. I don’t bring my kitty outside for this reason. She looks terrified :(
@@joyousenoful my other cat, who lived to 21.4 years, was just fine traveling in the motorhome but she’d get car sick. This one is fine once we get going but NEVER goes outside. She’s a rescue so we don’t know the details of her upbringing..
I would leave the backpack out with her blankets in it so she’ll use it at a bed. It’ll make her more comfortable with it
Your lovable cats & cute outfits again put my health in jeapordy! Luckily a good samaritan had a portable defibrillator! UA-cam needs some sort of cuteness overload disclaimer. This is just too much for anyone to bear!
I'm thinking of getting this carrier but it's not one that have reviewed
ibiyays Double-Compartment pet Carrier Travel Backpack
I got the backpack like the third one you showed with the option of the bubble window or the screen. Unfortunately, it didn't come with instructions and I am not able to find any online. Everything looks the same as the one you showed. I saw that your window just screwed into place but mine will not and I don't know if pieces are missing or what. I got the backpack, the pad for the bottom, and the bubble window and screen. Was there another piece that I am missing?
Have you tried the lyra cat backpack? Im an avid hiker and want something that will work well for the cat and my comfort and needs on the trail
Hi there! I haven't tried the Lyra cat backpack yet and, unfortunately, hadn't heard of it before now! It looks like a very promising option for adventurous kitties and people who want a truly comfortable, functional pack. Could be worth it!
Thank you for this video. I find it hard to find a proper backpack for big cats, or even just any cat. Designers don't seem to understand cats. All the cats I know don't like to be constricted to sitting, which all those long, but low, bags force them to be. When a cat is comfortable, they like to stand and look around in the backpack. So they need space to stand up, and a lot of options are not suited. And it's not because a cat can fit a tiny place that they want to for long periods of time as it happens when traveling. So thank you for showing some good options.
I am actually looking for more of a cat carrier/sling type. My cat loves to be held all day but I need my hands free. Have you come across anything like this? Almost like a baby carrier but for cats
Hi Janette, we reviewed 5 cat slings in this article: allaboutcats.com/best-cat-sling-carriers
Hi! My boyfriend and I love your videos! We've been having a hard time figuring out how much wet food to feed. We might even want to do a combination throughout the week of wet and dry. Anyway, I see online that people are saying 3 of the 3oz cans a day for a 5 pound cat. That seems like so much to me. Do you or anyone have advice on how to determine how much food per day of wet food or dry food? Thanks!
It really depends on the caloric density of the food! We made a calculator to help you figure it out. allaboutcats.com/weight-calculator
@@AllAboutCatsYT thank you so much!
2:07 my backpack has that too and it's not that type of backpack and I found out and realized that couple months ago
Hello everyone ! I have a question: My future cat will be an appartment cat because i live near a road and it would be way to dangerous to let them out the house (no need to debate me on this, I have read and done research on this topic for literally a year, my cat can and will be happy inside). I'm looking for a cat backpack as one more way to entertain my future furry baby: should I let the cat out the bag and let it play a little bit outside when we go walk or should it stay in the backpack for the whole time ?
do you think you’ll test the pura max?
Yes!
Navigator seems to have changed its strap design. Is it weaker now? And Texsens gets good reviews until users have taken cats out 3-4 times prior to straps and buckles breaking. Any comments on this? Follow up?
Not really, unfortunately-I haven't tried the Texsens since producing this video, and to my understanding, the Navigator was receiving some complaints about weak straps when I ordered it, and I'm not sure where there's any indication that the straps were updated. Are you sure that they were changed after this video was made?
does anyone know a good brand with an interior with a height over 16 inches? My cat would be most comfortable with a 24 inch height but I really can't find anything approaching that
Hi. Can you help? 😽 I'm aware this is regarding carriers- but I don't need one. I looked through your videos for Reviews on Cat Strollers and did not see one. I just thinking of a cat stroller, ( don't need it to covert to a carrier), that is durable and claw resitant like you tested these backpacks with a knife. Thank you!
ty
Is there such thing as a cat back wirh good back support?
Does anyone know which one would be best for cycling? I'm an avid cyclist that regularly does 100 mile rides. I probably won't be taking my cat on one of those, but mostly to the vet(5-10 miles.) It would be nice to have the option to take him on a longer ride. Thanks. :)
My first thought was that Mancro expandable product. While standing upright the floor of the backpack was tilted backwards, but I'd bet if you were on a bike, leaning forward, the back would also be leaning forward resulting in a level floor.
@@whiteknightcat Maybe... that one looks like it would fall apart easily though. Currently, I take an Uber to the vet just as an extra precaution so he won't be stressed out at the vet. And on the way back I put his plastic carrier into a 150 liter Northface bag (it fits.) I could probably put the *cat in the bag* both ways (he would be fine with it), but I just want to make double sure he doesn't act up at the vet.
I have a Kurgo G Train that works well for more outdoorsy excursions. Might be an option for your cat, depends on his size and comfort with the type of opening.
Any for carrying 2 cats?
I have two cats and I'm searching for one backpack to fit both of them. Can someone recommend me something?
Can someone tell me the names of some flower plants that are safe to grow indoors if you have pet cats?
Heya, you might like our video on plants that you can and can't keep with cats: ua-cam.com/video/bmyVOOuzPUk/v-deo.html&
Crazy to me that you didn't review Mr. Peanuts backpacks (unless they didn't make them yet then). They have special zippers that are near impossible to unzip from the inside. My cats have absolutely tried to destroy the mesh with no results. They're also cheaper and nicer than a lot of similar ones plus a lot are airport compliant in case you want to bring fluffy on the plane.
Any cat backpacks that carry 3 cats ? Will they fit? Only for a emergency use only
I always buy rolling back pack due to my shoulder injury I always use dog urine pads my cat. Take the bus to Banfield.
I think the bubble backpacks are a bad idea, same with plastic domes. If it is a hot day it can certainly cook your cat!
In answer to your question, I would never take my cat out of the house ever, except to take it to the vet. However, if you live in earthquake country, you might need a cat backpack some time for hiking out of a damaged area when the roads are impassible.
That bubble style backpack...my mind says no way. Not enough air for the cat.
Will my 8 kg cat fit in texsens?
Sorry 9
i do NOT like the price of the navigator but my cat… she knows how to open everything. she’s always opening cabinets and my shower doors. so i do feel it’s worth the price, alas
i will make the perfect backpack for my kitty
What harness does your cat wear in this video?
why can't you just use a secondary clip for the tether
Which in your opinion is the best?
There's a few more cat designed backpacks!
So number 1 😂most expensive lol the rest seem terrible. Thanks for the review.
Cat stroller reviews?
We'll consider it! Thank you.
I’m an old lady
To carry the cat on my back is a youthful concept….?
