One tip I got years ago (before BFTBG was available) was to mix in a little static grass and flock into your blood paint to look like chunks of gore and hair. Works especially well on your 'savage' enemies like Ogres or Orks if they're using hammers and things to look like they've just crushed a skull.
Thanks for the vid, definitely worth looking into if I pick up an Undead army again :D

Awesome vid, I'm definitely going to try the iso and silicone method for some guts. When I'm doing gore (not just blood) I add a very small amount of black ink to my red base (roughly two drops to the amount of red you used in the video). My base color might be Tamiya x-27 red or a red ink that I mix with medium. When real blood dries and starts to get crusty it's not really "red" anymore, it takes on a dark brown-red color. The middle of the paint application (where it's thick) has a very dark black-red color and the edges where it's thinner are more red. I don't find that brown inks work very well for this, but black does the trick.

I've never been satisfied with any kind of painted blood. Spent from 1974 to 1981 trying to mix up something that looked realistic. I finally decided on not adding blood paint to anything. Instead I'd line up everything I finished that needed blood. Inevitably when trimming up minis I would cut myself. I would then use real blood for all of the lined up minis, and give a light clear coat just as the blood was drying.
I always got a lot of compliments on my blood effects after that. :)
