The straw method was really cool and worked great. With the smallest brush I had with an extremely small amount of paint I could use it on a mini and it looked awesome.
Great video. I got the Vallejo Special Effects Set. You get Flesh Blood and Dried Blood which are reasonable effective. You also get Vomit, Verdegris, Dry Rust, Rust, Rotten White and some Chipping Medium. All the ingredients for creating something pretty gory. Or a really bad cocktail.
I think you're the only person who has mentioned adding typhus corrosion to the blood paint and you are actually a genius for it. The extra bit of texture is *amazing* Good find, great vid !
Filthy congealed blood. I would never think to mix together BFTBG and TC together. I will be giving this a go. The airbrush on a low pressure to get a splatter is a nice technique I have used myself on terrain. I watched Alex from 52 Miniatures mentioning using a drinking straw for a much more controlled and smaller splatter too. Excellent vid mate. Loved the “science with” section.
Thanks bud! The Typhus corrosion can really make all the difference, especially when those bits of pigment clump together. When you get that it's just next level! I actually watched Alex's vid as I was researching thumbnail and title ideas for this video, some really good stuff in there!
I like the sound of Dr Rich! You are welcome as always Spudicus! I look forward to seeing this on some Orks! I'm sure I could come up with a decent "Necron Oil Blood" effect for you if you want it?.....
Glad I could help! The pringles lid is suprisingly useful for things like this! If you eat a lot of pringles like me then you tend to have a fair few laying around too!
Vallejo: Smoke is also a good one for cutting the saturated red and having a gritty texture too. Worked really well with either a little red ink or Tamiya clear red and UHU glue for some nasty caked on gore :D Awesome video bud ;)
Great video mate. A big tip I always give is to add a bit of brown to the blood splatter and it always makes the difference. Bit this is another level mate! Stealing this for our challenge 😜

I honestly just wanted to watch this so I could draw danganronpa blood on my mini crime scene for class but I stuck around cause it looked cool and I liked this mans accent-
Thankyou! The armour tone for the sister of battle was achieved using the same technique as I used for my Grimdark White Scar that I did a tutorial on. It's essentially white ink, Oil Washes and then some Streaking Grime to tint and weather it.
Thankyou! The white was done using essentially the same method as I used in my Grimdark White Scar video but I have had a few people asking so when I next do a unit I will get the camera out!
@@SprayBlackStudios thanks. One more thing, sorry! I've got my Seraphim squad now, I've built them but wasn't sure what to do about their flying stands? Should I glue them to them, then prime and paint them? Or should I paint them separately, and if so, how would I go about doing that as they don't have flat feet to glue to bases? 😵 sorry to keep bothering you!
@@thecalvatron1955 no worries buddy! If you take a look at my instagram there is a photo of a Zephyrim prior to the streaking grime being added. What I do is to drill a small hole into the bottom of the jump pack where the base sits and then to insert a long pin and paint the mini whilst on a cork. To fit the base I'll then remove the pin and replace it with a shorter one that's been set into a drilled hole at the top of the flight stand stem. Hope that helps!
My rationale is that all my blood splatter is always fresh, so the browning doesn't really have chance to take a hold yet. Great stuff though, I'm definitely going to be giving this a try at some point.
I know this video was uploaded some 11 months ago. But does anyone know if a dark brown + deep red mix could give a similar effect? Or what to get that isn’t citadel to get equivalents of Blood for the Blood God and Typhus Corrosion? I really don’t like citadel pots, and my autism sometimes makes it difficult to visualize what mixes would make good substitutes.
A dark brown and deep red mix could get a close enough colour but without the properties of those paints wouldn't neccessarily get the same finish. A few companies do similar products, the one I would probably recommend is the Greenstuff world coagulated blood. It's a very similar product and comes in a dropper bottle!
Is there any way of achieving this effect without Typhus Corrosion, I am currently painting a pyramid head model and need this effect, would something like Stirland Battlemire work?
Stirland battlemire is probably a little bit thick sadly, it could work if it has been thinned considerably but the particles in it are pretty big. The colour can be matched relatively easily using various browns but the key of the Typhus corrosion is the small particles within that provide that clumping effect.
@@SprayBlackStudios Man I can't wait! I've recommended your channel to all my friends as a very easy step by step grimdark videos to follow. Keep it up!
I use a big range of paints for my work to be honest, mainly Citadel, Vallejo, Ak Interactive and Scale 75. For this the blood effects were all citadel 👍

Blood splatter is definitely a technique that takes some practice! It's very easy to go overboard.

A hint of rust helps too personally. Blood has iron in it and turns an orgish color on more pale or white surfaces.
