Making arched brick headers with soldier courses and or rowlocks is a must for home design. I've struggled to manually map bricks but this is wonderful. Curviloft the quadmesh arch face, then thrupaint it to quads. Took a 15 min headache to a 2 min no brainer. Many thanks to Fredo6 and to you Justin for the quick review/tutorial. Just saved me about 4 hrs a yr drawing those items.
Great tutorial, thanks for bringing this extension into light, it will help speed up my workflow so much. I use SketchUp and VRay for PR renders, but it's a pity that most complex models from the warehouse come poorly mapped. I end up spending way too much time remapping and applying textures.
I have one big question/trouble with a SketchUp (2018) and V-ray (3.6) about materials, maybe you can help me :) For example: I have a texture in blue colors, I change the colors of this texture to red (using SketchUp panel Materials - Edit). Now I want to open and save this red version of texture in jpg file to the folder. How can I do that? In previous version of the program if I pressed button 'Open texture image in external editor' SketchUp opened for me my changed red texture, and I was able to save it easily. Also all changed textures were saved in folder 'C:\Users\..\AppData\Local\Temp'. Now something has changed - SketchUp open me original texture and also in this folder is just original texture. The same situation with V-Ray. How can I save the changed texture if I change it using Color correction Asset Editor? I'll be very thankful, if you can explain me that)
iam using vray 4.2 update for sketchup but while scaling the texture and applying rendering vray reading the image which is not on problem scale dimensions please tell me what iam doing wrong.
Could you talk about how to use the UV work done on Fredo and have it carry over to Lumion without errors? Lumion refuses to read UV mapping data from Sketchup imports. It works sometimes but on complicated surfaces that I put a lot of work into, Lumion just stretches them like crazy.
there is a problem with this tool. When you map an object like a sphere, and then you export this model in a fbx or obj file, the material on the sphere is "subidivided" for each face. If i have a sphere with 244 faces, when i export it i export 244 faces and 244 material (but the material is the same for all the faces). Anyone know how to solve this problem?
Same problem here. Did you solve it ? it splits the main texture and generates textures for each faces when exporting. Still looking to solve this but could not find anything...i hope you find the solution if yes can you pls share??... thank you !
@@tanerlinux I used this tool to export the model with its UV mapping to Unreal Engine. since the Datasmith plugin for Unreal Engine and Sketchup was born I no longer had to export the models to .fbx but to .udatasmith. thanks to this plugin so I had no more problems and since then I continue to use Thrupaint without problems. but I guess this problem has remained, why do you have to export in .fbx format?
@@898guitarist898 Thanks for your reply ! i use sketchup for the modelling. Fast and easy to use and export the model to Ciname4D for rendering. i had a curved road and could not figure out a proper texturing in cinema4d and find this way texturing it in sketchup. But as you know it genereates too many textures. For the road model that i export from sketchup has almost 120 textures and some doesnt rendering the texture only i can see white materials in some parts of the road.
@@tanerlinux I get it. unfortunately SketchUp is bad for UV mapping, however there are other plugins that allow UV mapping as quadface tools (I have never tried it but I know there is such a function). try to see if it works!
Been watching lots of your videos, trying to figure out something. I want to design a 6' diameter stock tank to use as a pool, with wood decking around 3/4 of the pool. I figured out how to draw the cylinder for the pool tank, but is there any easy way to use the materials and clip them to match the round tank edge?
Hi, Justin. Could you do a tutorial to UV map a cone? Trying to do a seamless retaining wall going from strait, then passing around a coned curve and then straight again.
@@Thesketchupessentials Think of a conical frustum - try UV mapping a brick wall on that for example. I could send you a real-world picture of the situation. Sort of got the situation under control with Thrupaint.
Hello dear, Thanks for your great support to the Sketchup community,.. I want to know that, is there any plugin for sketchup that auto put renamed material into the model detecting faces of geometry (like multi-color or same color renamed ) ?. i made lot of time consume, but couldn't find. it is very useful efficient when importing sketchup model into lumion to reduce time of material rename
Thank you for the great video, although I have an important question, after applying this plugin, the Vray render still renders the distorted material, how do we fix that? Kindly reply soon.. its urgent!!
@@Randaakarim Yes I found a solution. You have to segment the surface of your component, select all faces and then paint with Tru Paint. So if you have a trapezium Top=100cm, bottom=80cm Height=20cm. Then divide top and bottom edge in 10. Draw a line from top segment point to bottom segment point. Then you get quad faces. Select all quad faces and paint your material..
I found this very useful for a short while, and then I started having serious issues with it. I'm trying to wrap an Islamic mosaic tile texture around an onion dome, which was created using the follow me tool, entirely out of quads. I keep getting yellow and red errors, stating that some faces couldn't be wrapped, and some faces have more than 4 sides, which isn't true. Its becoming very frustrating to use, and since there is no other alternative, I'm forced to create different shapes than what I really need in my scene, or just quite entirely. Its really sucking the fun and creativity out of my sketchup projects.
Hi, can you make a video on how to make realistic wood louvers , please. I try to do them but the pattern of the map keeps repeating and they look very un realistic
@@Thesketchupessentials that's what I did in the end Justin, it just feels a bit clunky obviously. Don't get me wrong, ThruPaint is a great improvement over standard SU texturing. But it's just extra work. By the way, I put a question up on one of your lumion v videos. About wether it's possible to cast tinted light through glass textures in Lumion? Buy adjusting to technical support on Lumions forums, it's not possible. So don't worry about trying to find out (if you were curious)!
Hello, just a simple question: can this plugin work in groups where texture is applied?..without exploding the group every single time... Thank you!! Andrea
I don't think you have to explode the group - just click inside of it - theoretically it works on groups, but it was giving me some weird results. Thanks!
