While its size evokes the command ships of the Empire, the Finalizer's design recalls those of Republic-era capital ships from the Clone Wars.
Its dorsal flight deck, side hangars, and prominent keel are similar to elements of the Venator-class Star Destroyer, reflecting a renewed appreciation among First
The Finalizer can launch its full complement of starfighters and assault ships much more quickly than its predecessors in the Imperial Navy could.
The First Order lacks the resources to build huge numbers of massive capital ships like those that once served the Emperor. But the lessons of Imperial power have not been lost on the First Order's ship designers.
The Finalizer is a devastating weapons platform and highly effective carrier, but it is also a symbol of the new regime's power, designed to recall the era when Imperial might be at its greatest and inspire awe in the First Order's enemies.
Other Imperial-era design flaws have also been rectified--the need for a better-protected command bridge with increased redundancy in command and control systems was a hard lesson learned from the loss of the Executor at the Battle of Endor. #starwars

Resurgent class is the only good thing out of the entire Sequel trilogy for me. She look amazing. One of my favourite sci-fi capital ships ever.

These ships did not get enough screen time and was one of the better parts of thw sequel trilogy
Also we didn't get to see how overpowered it is in combat

A good story and well written characters did not get enough screen time in this trilogy
Well no one ever said the art direction for the sequels were bad. It was the writers who made the sequels unwatchable. The artists did their best to make up for the bad writing and i gotta respect that.
@@YourDrunkStepDad A lot of concept designs for the Sequels were actually better compared to what we got on screen.
One of the things that I did actually appreciate about the new trilogy was that we actually got to see more of the inside of these behemoth ships. Almost everything else was crap but they really went above and beyond with attention to detail about the internal layouts. They are very cool ships, even by normal SW standards.

Agree that the rest was crap! The ships were cool looking, and I do appreciate getting to see the inside, but in typical Disney fashion, they were just over the top in power. One of these could take out half of the Endor fleet, and then the First Order had a lot of these? Plus Starkiller base? It all made no sense.
@@wilsoch Yep that's all true, I'm talking purely aesthetics here though. I like everything they did except the bomber and the pizza slice, both of which were designed specifically for that particular battle scene. The Xyston was fine except it was just a star destroyer with a cannon strapped to it, it was very lazy compared to everything else. This however is one of my favorite designed ships in all of star wars.
Yes, the ships are larger but less iconic than the Imperial Class-Star Destroyer, Ventator or Executor-Class.
@@Halfscreen I find Resurgent more iconic than a ISD and executor.
For me, these should have been the Super Star Destroyers of the Sequels, having them supported by smaller Venator/Acclamator like craft.
That would fit better with George's idea for Stormtrooper holdouts, where they could perform quick and precise guerrilla like assaults.
One of my favorite star destroyers, a hybrid of the imperial-class, and venator-class capital ships.
Clearly the first order had the right idea when it came to super weapons, and bridge designs.
As iconic as the Imperial I & II class star destroyers are, as someone with a minor in engineering there are a few flaws I just can't quite get behind. The Resurgent fixes most of the issues I have, and it's more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. I can trash on the sequels' story and characters all day, but I can't deny the art department did a banger job.

It's basically like the vf-2 is in macross 2: super awesome design, probably the best, but attached to a not-so-spectacular movie.

It's scary to think what would have happened if the Empire had Resurgent Class Star Destroyers instead of the Imperial 1 and Imperial 2 Class Star Destroyers because if they did they would have slaughtered the Rebel fleets at the battles of Scariff,Endor and Jakku.
If the imperial 1 and 2 class star destroyers actually used their weapons, they would have obliterated the rebel fleets at scariff and endor.
Probably not Endor. Palpatine purposefully held his fleet back to let the Death Star do the pickings, because he's sadistic and wanted Luke to watch the Rebels die slowly. The Star Destroyers were purely there to prevent the Rebels from escaping.
Scariff and Jakku didn’t actually happen.

@@lukewaterbury9285 Really than can you explain all the Imperial and Rebel wrecks all over the place from ships like Imperial 1 and 2 Star Destroyers and one Executor Class,several Imperial walkers like the one that Rey used for her home and the wrecks of all kinds of fighters from X-Wings to most likely Tie-Fighters and I don't mean the newly added First Order ones that were shot down by Finn using the Falcon's Quad Turbo lasers.
Long live the Star Destroyer lineage, I wouldn't be surprised if one day in the future, a brand new generation of Star Destroyer has superseded the Resurgent class in size, firepower, and defensive capabilities.
Its so surprising and interesting that out of everything to come out of the mess of a trilogy. This is one of the best designs of capital ships in canon. Like there must've been a good amount of thought to create an actual successor to the ISD with this ship.

@@sethcourtemanche5738 Well the Supremacy was the HQ of the first order, and was never meant to be some sort of fighting vessel. It was a factory, a capital city and a mine in the same time, but was very capable of entering battles too

I can buy the idea that the First Order somehow has better Star Destroyers than the Empire, as long as they have less. They're a smaller force, I don't see how they could have thousands of Star Destroyers that are more advanced than the Empire
the official cannot number for the resurgent class is arround 30-100 which for this time period is nothing to scoff at due to the demilitarized post war galaxy the new republic created

I haven't done the Battlestar Galactica and planning to do some new ST ship, but little information are given.

It's just flawed because of episode 8, I consider to be neutral for Sequels and I dont coun't 8 as canon

I just have a problem with the fighters, they indicate 2 squadrons, but if you look at the csos section, you can see 40 fighters on one side of one side hangar, which would be 80 in one + the other satran 160, but the ship still has two lower hangars and on the way, I would guess 200 +100 spesila forces
I never understood how the first order was able to build these "in the unknown regions" so I could really take them seriously since they are somehow bigger than the empires ships
Meh. I prefer a Vengeance-class Star Dreadnought. Same length and armament as an Executor, only flatter and a far less exposed bridge and the deflector shield generators are inside the hull. The only thing I liked about the newer movies is that the TIE Fighters got much needed upgrades.
They really went into quality over quantity with the Resurgent.
Then they built the Mandator dreadnought where all common sense and lessons learned went out the window… identifying as a super fortress wasn’t enough to protect it from the republic’s toxicity….

Man I love the large ships in starwars, but it really is starting to get comical. The executor was 19 kilometers. Thst is literally insane. That's like the size of NYC. Idk it seems almost impractical. Not to knock on them. I kovr the big ships. It just seems a little unrealistic from a logistics perspective

If storm troopers were kidnapped in early childhood by the First Order (established in SW:TFA), how could they be "trained since birth for obedience to the First Order"?
Undoubtedly the best Star Destroyer out of the entire (canon) series. I would say that a single Resurgent Star Destroyer is worth three Imperial-II Star Destroyers, completely outclassing its imperial predecessor and I'm not even talking about the capital ships from the Clone Wars. Only the Xyston-class Star Destroyer could easily overpower its First Order counterpart thanks to its axial superlaser.
I'm just a newb when it comes to star destroyers but how would this compare to Darth Vaders' favorite ship: the super star destroyer Executor?

Ahh Star Wars u can never have so much wasted space on it's very wide hull. If they could install turrets all over the upper and lower hull as well as guns in the trenches on it's wedges then it would be a truly sight to be hold. These Latest Super star Destroyer Resergent class Definitely Scare any Star Trek warships and Star Wars Rebel Alliance warships Calamari Cruisers.
Star Trek D or Latest X class Enterprise battle Cruisers Are smaller but More Manuverable and heavier Armed With phasers and Torpedoes.
Now that would be a good fight? Although, Star Trek crew always seems to do some asspull with their ships to get the win.

Imagine all those resurgent class star destroyers joined the fight at battles in the last jedi. They're just doing nothing in flim.
There's always a point when a weapon system becomes too big to be tactically sound. For instance, if a ship is so big that it can only bring a small fraction of its overall defense systems to bear on an attacker, while the attacker can bring all its offensive systems to bear on a part of the huge vessel. You do not need to destroy such a huge vehicle, just disable it enough to practically mission-killed. These mega-huge capital ships are stupid. But I can see how they can easily impress the feeble-minded.
What is also stupid is that the new order is supposed to have less resources than the empire but makes bigger and more expensive weapons.
It's a shame these ships were one of the few cool things about the movies that didn't break all logic in them, because they did absolutely nothing

The crew hated the new design, number of toilets was reduced, no more beauty salon, bonk beds increased pr sleeping quarters, wages reduced, women given their own bathing facilities and the ship have a tendency to hive given everybody a slight seasickness.

Then why did they have to make a big "special" dreadnought with a massive toddler cannon to destroy the "resistance" base in Ep.8. Almost like the people who made 7-9 didn't actually know anything about Star Wars...
simple the resurgent is a big stick, sure it can do damage but the odds of it hitting a specific target from orbit are minimal meanwhile the mandator is a scalpel capable of precision orbital strikes on very specific targets. the mandator also served another more important purpose that being taking out enemy command vessels and large capital ships hence why poe refers to it as a "fleet killer"
