  • Pushing your limits and the psychology of disability and sport. Disability doesn’t define you but your perception and mentality does. Being disabled should not be thought of as a negative. It can be a blessing. David explains how being born with a disability is a great opportunity to achieve something massive in life and has pushed him to extend the boundaries of his physical and mental capabilities. Without this, the tough times would have been a lot harder. David is a three time Paralympian and international table tennis player. He was born with Multiple Epiphyseal Dysplasia, a bone condition that affects the growing ends of bones, and Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect which was repaired via open heart surgery as a baby. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I can confirm this man is a true hero. Within our friendship group he is by far the hardest working, most positive and most humble man that I’ve ever met. Not to mention he runs rings around us all in the gym. Proud of you Mr Wetherill! Big love!

Becoming disabled at 40 was really tough losing my support system, my family walking away as they couldn’t cope, left me in a really isolated fight and it made me so resilient as I had to adapt on my own

I agree, partially though. It's a lot more difficult to succeed if at all, lots of disabled folks end up being congratulated for getting up in the morning which I think is not totally unjustified.

Thanks for this motivational speech. Iam also a disabled persons subscribing to get more motivation about. I do have tremor, in which it makes me hard to do hard certain things such as writing and staff like that. Because of this, most of my classmates and neighbors take advantage of my disability.
When, it comes for practical class, Iam the one who fails a lot. And because of this Iam about to give up my education and want to preach via my You Tube channel. I believe that this is the purpose why God send me into this world.
