I lost my partner three years ago and keep getting the " why dont you date??" I agree with you that its important to work on yourself so you can find a good and accepting person and not jump into anything and get a toxic situation once again. Thank you for your honesty and videos!

My boyfriend lives in a shelter, he is also disabled. I pay for a hotel when we want to be intimate. Nothing wrong with that.
Man, you have nothing to worry about. This van life thing has been going strong for a solid 10 years now, and the ladies are on board. You're a good-looking dude, you're working to make money and more importantly, you're working on yourself. Not only are girls living full-time Van Life, they are watching YOU specifically and will make their move at the right time. This is my experience as a woman who lived in her car and dated - it's easy for women to date but it's hard to have a real relationship unless the guy is also traveling. As far as sex, you can have sex anywhere, including the car, the other person's house, or a hotel. That being said, I would not put I live in my vehicle in my dating profile but I would bring it up relatively quickly in our communication, which would give my an opportunity to explain why I live in my car. Most people who live in their car are struggling financially and many have mental health or drug problems, neither of which says "safe, healthy, lifelong partner" to the average person. Leading with "I live in my car" is going to attract people who want to control you through housing and money, and that applies to men and women. Plus people who lead with the worst thing about themselves are often trying to set the bar as low as possible, preferably on the floor. They're the "well I told you" people who justify their toxic behavior. In my experience, it's usually better to talk about recovery and housing situations early, but not "on my profile before I can even say hi" early.

I respectfully disagree. We are living in times that saying “I live in my car” is not a shocking situation. If people are unable to notice or realize a large number of Americans are struggling financially they are simply not paying attention. Financial, drug or mental health reasons are not the only reasons for living in a vehicle either. I wouldn’t want someone in my life who made such a quick judgement from one statement about how I live. What a great way to weed out people who have no sense of empathy or understanding before judgment.

I think that it's great that you're completely upfront about your living situation. Having a partnership that's based upon friendship will really increase the possibility of a happy and long term relationship. (I was married for 23 years and am now in my 2nd marriage since 2011 and we're friends first. This makes for a relationship that survives both tough times and good times.)

You get used to it after a while but i imagine its nice to have someone by your side as you age and or get older. Your not alone brother and I agree its best to be honest about ur living situation, iv had fun in a car most of the time b4 my hiatus..
A lot of people live in there vehicles these days. Good, Clean, Responsible, and accountable people.
You technically still have your shit together and it helps that you have goals and are working towards better things.
I believe the best relationships are formed when two people face struggles together and build the life they both want together, versus relationships where one or both parties have more than the other.

Agree with you Ben about being up front with the things you know could create an issue BEFORE the first date. Let the ones who are not on board with unconventional living jump off before they get to the first date. 😂 When I used a dating site I know most men aren’t interested in larger women so I make sure I put up a full body picture and also said “If you’re not attracted to plus size women I am not the one for you and that’s ok”. Hoping it would stop all of the craziness before it happened. I’m not trying to hear “your face was misleading”… 😏… Communication AND honesty is key!
My last relationship was rough also. It’s been 5 years since I have dated or been intimate. I’m 56 and so much healing has gone on. I pray I never allow another abusive relationship. Your honesty will hopefully help someone else who may think dating is not going to work living in a car. I used to tell my ex “We could live in a tent just as long as we were together, enjoying life while working towards a better future”.

I’m not in the scene/community but I feel like this plays a big part in why the Pacific Northwest or west coast van life community is so much larger than the rest of the US. People doing this lifestyle are more likely to date others doing it just because “normal” people will be more offput by it. Good luck to you and glad to see you’re taking care of yourself
That's because the Western half of the United States is the least populated only about 20 percent of people live in that region so plenty of space for everyone.

I used the dating apps to date before and I find most swipe right or left just by the picture and don't read the profile so after exchanging a few messages I will ask them if they read my profile. If you put that you live in your car then one of the forst few messages from her will be about that if they did read it before contact.

Thank you for the transparency Bren. I have been single for 10 years (I am 43). Have not dated for 5 years and haven’t had sex for 8 years (hello born again virgin lol). Like you I am not into one night stands or meaningless sex just for the act of sex gratification. Plus, my introverted self (I work from home so days and days go by without human contact) only adds to the celibacy. I think when we find the right person sexual chemistry will just be present organically. But for now honestly my mental health and crazy cat spinster status is ok!
