It's a vacuum pump generally used for evacuating moisture from refrigeration systems prior to filling with refrigerant. Under that brass cap, which unscrews, you would connect to the system with a manifold gauge set. The discharge is via the carry handle. Specific vacuum pump oil should be used with the sight glass level generally being half way. The oil needs to be changed often if used as designed.
As so many have said, it's a vacuum pump for fridges and acs... continuous duty motor because it takes HOURS to remove moisture from a system with one, lol. Can also be used to impress kids by collapsing old 55 gallon drums!
Under the brass cap screw is a schrader valve to hook up vacuum line to. The little oil I saw come out the drain hole looked real old, so it should be changed before use. There are a lot of experimental fun uses they can be used for besides what they are made for
Vacuum pumps are used to remove air and other wet gas and vapor particles from a system. Without a vacuum pump, these particles can cause a system to run inefficiently and can even corrode internal parts. Generally, the purpose of a vacuum pump is to clean and seal an area from the air or other gasses.
gould sargent welch pumps are used in chemical industrial applications /and i am now a new subscriber to your channel, looking forward to the journey,,,,
It's not a hydraulic driven concrete vibratory, you plug the vibratory tube in at the end and when you turn it on it vibrates when you are laying New concrete.
I have to say, that "cat" looks more like a fox to me! - Connie's going to be haunting your new house..... You'll be hearing things that go bump in the night, and howling, moaning noises all night long. Then in morning you're going to find........................... Some drunken old fella's gone axle over transmission across the garden. Poor Connie, I'm really going to miss that little cat 🐈.... Royt, so wots first on the bench when you get all set up?
Pleeeease change the oil before you switch on that vacuum pump! A pint of it is about 15 pounds on eBay. Too bad I live in Germany, if I lived near you, I would have donated a bottle. Or exchanged it for beer, respectively.
@vk4uh96 the plug isn't really a killer. Most of our electric motors are 110/220 single phase capable. You could fairly easily run a UK plug to most, and it wouldn't know the difference. But our local use motors will never be labeled 50hz. You might see resistive load stuff like heaters labeled 50/60, but never a 50hz motor

Vacuum pump probably used for degassing industrial refrigeration systems.

I seem to remember that's a vac pump, can't remember how we used them.
It's a vacuum pump, unscrew that brass bit with the knurled cap by the handle and you should be able to fit a pipe. It sucks really! 😂
vacpump, refrigeration engineers use them, it only sucks and you connect it to a bridge.
Adam the brass object does the top unscrew off, and there may be a connector like what you put a hose on 🤔
Awesome old find there

No American tool comes with a 50hz motor, we run 60hz over here
Nor a 240v plug wired on
