    R.I.P. Pam Johnson. Back in the '00s, she helped feed me and many of my friends when we were homeless or crashing at Traveller's in Gatlinburg. I still remember, even after I had housing, I'd stop in at Fay & Dale's and talk to her. She was a sweet woman, and her memory lives on.

    I worked with Ms. Alice at the Christmas Place and I remember vividly that Sunday before the fire and she was talking about her grandkids and her kids coming up to visit her and then going into work that Monday after the fires and my coworkers telling me she was missing, I prayed for a better outcome may she Rest In Peace along with the other victims

      That's so sad Shalacy. My heart goes out to you. What so sad about this is how it was all about money. They could've put that fire out when they first saw it. But the cost was too high, and they ended up still spending the money anyway along with people losing their homes and lives. It could have been stopped!!!

    there were no evacuations until the fire was already killing people, then they were only voluntary. the city of Gatlinburg was orange and smoke was thick the whole day. when evacuation got to mandatory status was when police and emt were knokcing on doors to save lives. there could have been 0 lives lost if evacuations were mandatory from the start when the skies were orange!

    • @futurecorpse7330
      @futurecorpse7330 3 роки тому +2

      If I see orange and it’s dark outside I’m not going to rely on being told I have to leave, I thought the fire was almost like a tsunami if that makes sense I didn’t know Gatlinburg was visibly in danger the whole day obviously there was a fire but I didn’t realize it was basically in everyone’s face I’m not saying you’re wrong I just didn’t know that I guess that would be why it seemed like a tsunami cause nobody was told to mandatory evacuate til it was too late, I see multiple people saying the same thing about the fire being prevalent the whole day i was given same lies the mayor was saying about basically all the sudden conditions deteriorated instantly

    It could have been avoided. They didn't want to spend the money to put it out when they first saw it. Spent the money anyway when it got too big to control and people lost their homes and lives as a result. This is just horrible.

    I go to the smokies every year. The one place of Tennessee the family and i enjoy . I would love to buy property there but cant afford it so we at least visit as often as we can afford. Would love to ride on the motorcycle this year, i unfortunately only saw the smokies after the fact but i feel its still beautiful. I feel for these folks that lost their homes, their loved ones. Unfortunately the animosty those folks have for government and coverups i feel is well justified. Folks should have total transparency and yet all we do is try to live our lives and enjoy what time we have. I believe that the fore departments did the best they could but when nature gets wild its hard to beat. Regardless prayers to all who have lost but we must push forward and try to continue. God bless all those involved in this tragedy

    There was ash raining down in Seveirville at 9 am on the morning of the fire. At noon the sky in Gatlinburg was so orange it almost blotted out the sun. All day locals at work and tourists were encouraged to stay in town. Nothing is wrong. City Officials dropped the ball on this. Wind downed power lines all over town which sparked new fires yet they didn't cut the power in the gale force winds. Police officers were guiding people into the fire. I was one of them, I begged the cop to quit sending folks toward the spur because it was burning and they didn't listen. I know teachers that worked at the Pi Beta Phi school in Gatlinburg that said they had several Hispanic students and their families never return after the fires. Many people believed they may have perishes in the fires and have hidden it. Seems like Gatlinburg was the test run for Maui.

    The vast majority of people had homeowner's insurance, which unlike auto collision insurance, is a replacement cost policy, no depreciation taken on the rebuilding of the structure. Also, most insurance companies compel their policy holders to carry a coverage limit on the dwelling, which is in excess of what it would cost to rebuild the existing structure with like kind and quality. Why? So, they can collect a higher premium. The bottom line is, the overwhelming majority of people whose houses burned, will end up with a structure FAR better than what they had originally. A brand new house, compliant with current building codes, and inspected by qualified building inspectors.
    Don't get me wrong. This is not something the average person wants to go though, even if it means you end up with a much upgraded house. A lot of stress and headaches. Been there, done that. Hurricane Michael wrecked my house on 10/10/18.

    What do you expect wildfires helped keep down the volume of natural fuel fighting fires and not letting them do what nature intended it to do you caused this

  • @schlooonginator1227
    @schlooonginator1227 Рік тому

    They must have jumped for joy finding those 2 kids to try to steer the blame away from inept fire management.
    Just admit it, you wanted to save money by not attacking the fire at the beginning.
    Should be standard protocol to assume worst case scenario. You already knew you had drought conditions and had no fires in decades meaning a tinder box of fuel littered the entire area with just a spark needed from the fire that you let burn. The only variable here was wind.
    Im a layman on this topic, brush fires have been decided on by basic science for decades and today we have technology to accurately predict fire behavior.
    You played gross negligence with a potential hellscape in a heavily populated area.
