Growing up in Oregon fires and smoke in the summer were commonplace but it does seem they've gotten worse and to the comment above I agree there needs to be more brush clearing, prescribed burns so that wildfires aren't as destructive.
Exactly but the authorities have cut back on what's called a prescribed burn. We went through something similar back in 1988, in Yellowstone And they decided to let the fires burn But then when the fires looked like it Might burn the whole park they decided to attack them. It took 25,000 firefighters, including 4,000 Marines until the first snowfall to put it Out. It consumed a total of 750,000 acres. If they would conduct controlled burns it would limit the growth of these conflagrations that are so destructive, both in property and lives.
Currently a big fire (over 32,000 acres) burning in the bighorn mountains just 45 miles west of my town. Smoke and raining ash here. A small town at the base of the mountain is in its path. It quite scary and I’ve never felt so helpless in my life. I pray for everyone and for rain, PLEASE!
Having grown up in California before moving up to Washington state, some friends of mine were in that area during that fire. Thankfully, they got out on caved, although they did lose their golden retriever. One thing, though that we need to remember is even though these fires are devastating to lives and property contrary to popular belief, they are actually very good for the environment. The reason we have such extreme wildfires nowadays essentially we’ve gotten too good at controlling them. Now we have large areas of forests with years worth of , dead growth on these forest floor. Which is basically just turning America and Canadian forests into massive tinder boxes.
How much did shutting down logging industry have to do? Loggers here leave the land clear of dead trees, the forest floor is clear of dead trees. Too much fuel and lack of forest management caused this fire to be so big.
From the Paradise Camp Fire 2018 - Reporter: “If there’s one takeaway you could tell the hundred other foothill towns that could be in the same danger as you-“ Councilman Mike Zuccolillo: “It could happen. I mean today this is the worst tragedy that’s ever happened. I hope I’m the last person that says that. I hope there’s not another town.”
The cause of the fire appears to have three stages. 1. The initial fire 2. Historical experience and 3. The new situations nature brought into play with devastating effect.
I feel as though in the end the fire will better the forest in general, the sierras are one of the most fire evolved ecosystems. I wish we would allow healthy forest populations by keeping numbers at less dense levels, allows the fire to pass by and not scorch the plants that actually require fire to release seeds. Everything under newsom has been a shit show and it’s really sad. The holy Jim fire took 3 years to start actually recovering, and 2 years later we had big rains and the canyon sprang back to life. Though our area didn’t have trees knocked down nearly as drastically making it much easier for recovery. Fires SHOULD NOT be able to move at hurricane speeds. So sorry for the communities impacted.
I think our pentagon should rethink this as a war on fire. We need to be sensible about what our military does all of these power lines could be put underground all of these fires could be fought with an army of people and equipment with better monitoring even like we need to use our resources with a fire crew National Guard with big enough numbers to make a dent. I pray for all of us! I was in a very fast scary fire. It was spreading in the tree tops wind driven fire it jumped from Pine Tree top to pine tree top half the length of a football field right in front of us! it could have turned in towards us...we literally got lucky not even knowing it was there before it did that, this is some scary apocalyptic stuff. Thankfully the area was located across from a national guard post and it was quickly contained! and these fire tornadoes are unreal scary I've seen one before, during a controlled burn!

I'm Black and I care very much about this. Why didn't you word it like " Why don't many of the black people I've met feel this way" ?. Still would be irrelevant and foolish. Why are you even asking that question? Do you not think that there are many people of all races that don't care? So every person that you've met that wasn't black cares ? Or are you only keeping track of how the "many" black people you've met feel about it. The fact that you even asked that instead of asking why many people don't feel this way shows your blatant prejudice. None of the white people I know, are friends with, or have met never even talk about any of these fires, but I've never wondered why "many white people don't care about wildfires" because it's strange to single out a race like that, and normal people don't think like that. What are you doing to help the situation? Are you involved in any organizations that are working on solutions? Did you go to help out in any of the communities affected in these fires afterwards? Let me switch up the questions here. Do you care about any of the serious issues affecting black communities? Why don't you care about gang violence, lack of jobs, below average school systems, undiagnosed mental health problems, crack being put in black communities through the CIA? Until you care about even 1 of these issues don't ask "why don't black people feel this way". Not only is it a baseless, ignorant and uninformed question, it's also an extremely weak and cowardly way to show your bigotry because if you really were watching this wondering that, you're the lowest type of person, trash, as well as a waste of life. Try harder with your prejudice next time
If you are going to rebuild a house, do not use wood or plastic, or anything that could feed a hot blazzing forest fire. Build your rebuilt house completely with CONCRETE AND STEEL FRAME. With fire resistant doors and windows. Get a concret tub that can hold lots of water under ground. To have a solar powered machine that can convert water into breathable clean oxygen. In case of a fire. Then turn off every thing. Turn off all the gas pipes and everything else. Then evacuate. So you can be away from the forest fire. When you come back to your Concrete and steel frame house. Your house will still be standing . No reason to rebuild. After any forest fire notce all the surrounding houses that were burned to the ground. Notice all the brick walls and fire chimmays made of brick and concrete block walls are still standing in place. So this means built your future house out of concrete and steel frame fire resistant house. Notice all the big rocks and boulders in any forest fire. After a major forest fire the big rocks and boulders are still there. Do not use wood or cheap plastic to rebuild your house. Use Concrete and steel frame. With fire resistant doors and windows. This is my oppinion. If I had the money. Very simple.
The same can be said for literally *anywhere* in the country. West coast: earthquakes southeast: hurricanes north/northeast blizzards tornado/dixie alley, landslides, flooding, avalanches, wet bulb heat environment. The list goes on and on. There is nowhere in America that doesn’t have the risk of some kind of severe weather concern(s). I’ve watched documentaries where someone who had just to the area in the fast few years was killed by the extreme weather condition.
This is very sad. All these people that past away in the fire. They were not warned in time. Plus sadly some were trapped by the fire. I would visit in the mountains. I would personally never buy a house in the mountains. There is always the chance of a forest fire. The house might be five miles from a fire its the flying ambers that fly with the wind in a forest fire. So if your house is not fire proof it will burn to the ground. If I have the money to have a house. My house would be build with steel and concrete under ground about twenty feet under ground. I also would have a huge water tank. The water tank would be designed to convert water to oxygen. So I could have fresh clean air under ground. Like a submaine does. I also would have well structured and re-enforced shipping containers. With a concrete and steel tunnels to walk under ground to my shipping containers. Each shipping container would have a purpose. ( 1.) One would store my Sun Run back up Solar Power Battery for home elecricity. ( 2.) Then one to keep meats friozen if I need to be under ground for a while. ( 3.) This one shipping container would be used as a big refrigerator . For foods and lots of bottled drinking water. Plus medicine from the hospital. Under ground would have a under ground parking garage . Big kitchen . Big Den and dinning room. Then ten feet in front of the house would have a elevator to safely go to the top. With a submarine scope to see if there is still a fire. Or a small hole to sent out a drone to see if there still is a fire. On top of the house would be a round cylander shaped house made of concrete ,steel and brick. With in deep beautiful windows that can be covered by a type of fire resistant material. So the fire does not break the windows and catch the inside of the top house on fire. This I would do if I had the money to build a fire proof house. Plus : Water spriklers that stay on, if the fire sensor indicated a fire. This is if I had the money.
Notice all the Brick Chiminyes for a fire place are still standing. Notice all the brick and block walls are still standing. This is because there is no forest fire no matter how hot can burn a brick or Concrete built house. If I ever have the money. I will buy 20 acres of land in the forest. I will buld a Conctete and steel frame house. The steel frame will be insolated under three feet thick of concrete. The shape of the house will similar to that of a huge Egypt pyrimad. This reason for this shape is so the weight of snow can not bring the house down. Plus a forest fire has nothing to catch onto to burn. I also will have no forest trees near the house. The house will have a under ground parking garage. This will be a four story Concrete and steel frame house. In the huge back yard will be Olympic size swimming pool. With a back wall twenty feet high . Approved by the city. The front and back doors will be made of fire resistant material. So if there was a forest fire near my mansion in the forest , I would leave for one month. Because of bad air quality to breath. Then I would , easily come back to my house and it will be still standing. My house will not have any wood or plastic or anything that would provide fuel or food to keep a fire burning. If houses were built out of Concrete and Steel frame no matter how big or hot the forest fire is, the house will not burn down. To prove this point . Look at all big boulders and big rocks in any forest fire. After the hot blazzing forest fire is done burning all the houses and trees. Those big boulders and big rocks in the forest are still there. Case closed. Build houses in the forest with Concrete and Steel frame. With fire resistant windows. Case closed. When you leave for one month during the forest fire. When you come back your house will still be standing.

HELLA ads. Sucks cuz this is a good documentary.

Why would anyone wana live there for 38 years
Because it was pretty a nice area to live.
Conspiracy! Cover up!
I'm so sorry for the losses up there . My family went to shaver for many yrs camping . And the lives lost . God bless everyone 👏. 🌲😪😨🦔🐐🩵
Methane levels are so high that our" yellow" sun has turned into a" blurry orange blob"!! Methane blocks blue light waves creating the orange!
Must read book al-dukhan in the holy Quran.
Allah explains that al-dukhan means drought and smoke.
