    I just got mines 2 weeks ago, tested it last weekend and works great. All 3 modes work, i was surprised to see the thing going on circles in the sky. Put a smile on my face.

    Hi Michael,
    Though you presented this video in 2015, it is still valuable. I am a modell pilot that has learned flying by doing and crashing. Still using my second 'We Can Fly' modell, that is held together with glue and a lot of tape. The first one was beyond repair after again another severe crash. I was really fed up with crashing and discovered the BGL Installed it in my plane and started flying again. And now I have made a lot of wonderfull flights without any damage!! Also made a lot of SIM hours that turned out usefull. My learning plan is to make as much hours as weather permits to become ultimately comfortable and with the plane at height, switch to the unassisted mode. The 'RTH' option also works perfect. I also programmed 'RTH" in the 'Fail Safe' mode of my x-mitter. Have tested it when on the ground and works fine also.
    Best regards, Jan Willem

    Thanks Michael. With the help of this video I now have a Bixler 2 that Returns to Home. Tested it in 15kn and it worked. Even tried failsafe RTH by turning the radio off, scary but it worked.

      +Andrew Newton Thanks for the comment, it is brilliant to hear it has worked out. Would be good to do a little formation FPV. Add Mark in (once he has built his Cloudy) as well for a bit of three way air to air footage! Although getting planes near each other seems a bit like herding cats. Cheers Michael

    Hi Michael, Congratulations on a very well presented review. I presume from your video that the unit's stabiliser program is set and cannot be programmed. Also I have a Radian XL with the AR636 receiver. Should I replace it with a non-stabiliser rx, or will they work together.

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  4 роки тому

      Hi John, the stabilisation is in effect Auto Level. It will limit roll and pitch as well as return the plane to level flight when you take your hands off the stick. There is an adjustment on the unit that increases or decreases the sensitivity of the auto level.
      When you are looking at stabilisation from something like your AR636, they will allow you to fly unlimited but reduce the affect from the wind.
      They will work together, but I'd suggest programming your radio to have all the modes seperate. Off - Stabilisation - Auto Level - Return to Home.
      Cheers Michael

    Hi, thank you for the presentation. My BGL is bought and installed. But the manual is not very precise, so I have some question.
    - New model created, no trims. So when and how should I trim the model, because in manual mode I need model to be trimmed?
    - Really no mix functions? I use to use Aileron/Rudder mix, dual rates and exponencial something:-)
    Thank you.

    Hi Michael, trust you're well. I have 2 of these AutoPilots for my FPV Planes. On one of them the GPS receiver has stopped working. Do you know where I could buy a new one? or do you know of a compatible unit. I tried to use a Beitian BN-220 GPS but although this fired up and got a GPS fix it was not compatible with the BGL-6G-AP. The red light just stayed on all the time... Regards, Pete

    Thinking of getting one of these for my dads hk cloud surfer. His spektrum dx6i however, only has two way switches so im doubtful if it will be possible to select manual/flight stabalise/gps rth. Any ideas?

      G'day +Stephen hathaway I have spoken to another guy that needed to control one with his DX6 or DX6i. I thought it has a 3 pos switch for the flaps? Otherwise, there was another guy that set his up using two different 2 Pos switches. When they where both up Mode was OFF when when switch was down the mode was Auto Level and when the other switch was down the mode was RTH. Check out this DX6i vid from Motion RC. They are setting up a gyro on the DX6i - ua-cam.com/video/gKObxglL8lM/v-deo.htmlm30s

    I found just setting up a new model on the th9x let me set the 3 switch. I'm still not sure why you have in ur setup video so the pot effects the 3 switch on the 9x. Don't know how the hell you figured out how to do those settings the th9x is a confusing beast. I've got the EZUHF attached and it seems to work well on bench. Email a few questions just go to my last email others where me freaking while not being able to figure it out.
    And if anyone knows how to set this so it RTH as fail safe on the TH9X please let me know it'd be a big help.

      Hi Jason. The altitude that the plane is at when the RTH is engaged is maintained (as best as possible given the airspeed). I have my ASW28 set-up with no throttle on the fail safe too. I have been using this flight stabilizer for some time and I am a bit disappointed with the RTH. On different occasions the plane does not return to home but go's straight ahead in stabilized mode. I regret that one cannot use Flaperon with this stabilizer because there is only one output channel for aileron 1 and 2.

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому +1

      Hi Stephane, thanks for your feedback. I have not experienced this sort of behaviour. Although, I usually fly in the same place, so my RTH position rarely needs to be reset. Do you fly at different locations? You may need to make sure that the home position is set correctly by pressing the Rest Button after the GPS has a lock on the satellites (blue light flashing).
      Certainly the BGL-6G-AP does not have as many features as some other units that will allow flaperons and other advanced mixing, but to be fair, it is a very cost effective RTH. Probably the cheapest RTH in the world I think. Cheers Michael

    Hi nice video! I have a plane which has already a 6G/3D stabilizer integrated. Do you think I can add the BGL-6G-AP to get the RTH function? Can this module interfere with the existing stabilizer of my plane?

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  6 років тому +1

      G'day, yes the two stabilisers would interfere with each other. But if you have enough switches could set it up to have one on is certain modes and the other on when needed in different modes. So to get the rth function you would need to program the radio to switch off the other stabiliser when you select the rth mode. And make sure to switch off in failsafe too. Cheers Michael

    hello Dear Mike, where xan I find documentation - ive done a lot of research but havent found anything- of how to set the wiring on flying wings like the skywalker or the skyfun? thanks 4 your help as always :D

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому

      Hi +Jon J Villa No specific set-up instructions for the flying wing, but the switch combination on the unit must be set with S1 OFF S2 ON.
      As for the servo connections, one wing will go to the Aileron channel and the other servo will go to the Elevator channel. Nothing in the rudder.
      Then I think you'll just set up your transmitter as normal, mixing for a flying wing.
      You may need to check the directions of the auto level setting and the stick inputs and either adjust your transmitter directions or the gain potentiometers on the BGL.
      I will have a new video soon to the set-up of a new stabiliser from Bigaole (no RTH) and I'll do it on my Tek Sumo flying wing, so stay tuned. Cheers Michael

    Hi Michael,
    Can you describe how I can setup Flaps on my DX8e with the AP. Setting the aircraft type to 1 Flap 1 Aile allows for the addition of Elev and Speed input but conflicts with the AP.

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  4 роки тому

      Hi John,
      Sorry mate, I don't really know the Spektrum gear very well, but I helped a fellow pilot a while back to set his gear up. One of his planes had the full set, Ailerons, Flaps, Gear and all of it was setup on a DX8 G2 with no conflicts.
      I did a few videos for him, but they are not listed.
      I think if you use this link - ua-cam.com/video/bzzRdmjNsaQ/v-deo.html
      you should see the physical setup of the receiver and connections to the flight controller and servos mocked up.
      If you use this link - ua-cam.com/video/bzzRdmjNsaQ/v-deo.html
      you should see a detailed explanation of the radio setup.
      The videos are in context of setting up someones gear and explaining what I have done, so you might have to go through some details not pertinent to the flaps, but the details are all in there somewhere.
      I hope it helps. Cheers Michael

    I got a question, i got a bigaole for my wing and set it up for wing mode.My question is, can i use the rudder for make my cam look around? Or even if the wing not have a rudder, will it still be controlled by the bigaole controller?Or does the controller in wing mode passtrough the rudder?Thx

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому

      G'day +Denof The rudder channel passes through the BGL-6G-AP, but you can control that channel in all modes of operation. There is not need to pass it through though. You can connect it directly to your camera. Hi. I am going to use one of these. When I set the fail safe on the receiver ( lemon). Do I set the fail safe for the throttle only or ailerons elevator etc. Would be grateful for your advice. Mike

    • @xxMADxMICKxx
      @xxMADxMICKxx 8 років тому

      G'day Mike, your throttle failsafe will depend in the airframe. On he Bix3 I have about 40% throttle on failsafe, but for my ASW28 I have no throttle set in failsafe. At a minimum you want to set the mode of the BGL-6G-AP to the RTH mode, no need to set anything for the ailerons or elevator. I hope that helps. Cheers Michael

      G'day Jase, (RCWASPOVISION ) Sorry mate, I have some how missed your questions here. And I do know that we've caught up since, but I thought it best to answer your question here too, in case others have the same question.
      For any fail safe, the receiver needs to be capable of being set into the desired stick and switch positions when you loose the connection to the transmitter. This is different across the different brands of receiver. For example - Turnigy receivers have no fail safe, frSky have a button, Spektrum vary across the different models.
      I have more information about fail safe on the RC Groups forums - www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2417656

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  5 років тому

      G'day Roger, I think you're asking of this RTH/Autopilot has an On Screen Display (OSD)? Simple answer is no, no information is sent to your video standard. I have had some people that have bought it have modified the GPS to also feed a separate OSD unit for that purpose. I have used a Remzibi, but keep it separate from the RTH. I hope that answers your questions. Cheers Michael

    Can't seem to get the modes working on a flying-wing. Does both elevons connect to channel 1 and 2 on FrSky Rx?

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому

      +leadpan I'd can suggest a couple things to try and isolate the issue.
      First, the GPS must have a connection to the satellites or the unit will default to stabilise mode. The blue light on the GPS unit will flash when it has a connection.
      Second, ensure that you have left wing into the aileron channel and right into the elevator channel as marked on the BGL unit. As for the FrSky, the channels are assigned in the transmitter, so you might need to double check the settings for the model you've set up.
      I hope that gives you a few things to go on with, but feel free to reply with any additional questions.
      Cheers
      Michael

      G'day +Peter Ha Could be the gains set in the wrong direction. I have done that on my ASW28, but luckily switch off the stab before disaster. I hope any damage can be fixed.
      Best tip I can give for testing the right direction is the aileron should drop WITH the wing. Best of luck for your next flight. Cheers Michael

    Hi I have one of these units but I find during calibration it flashes then I get a steady red then the servos move and I get the flashing again. The unit also does not respond to the transmitter aux switch as the unit is always in stabilization mode. Any Ideas?

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому

      G'day Gyrophill, It sounds like you don't have a connection for the GPS. You need to make sure that if you have the GPS plugged in during the setup, you need to be out doors or close to the window so you can connect to satellites. You will see the blue light start to flash if you have successfully connected to satellites. If the blue light is solid, there is no connections.
      The red light sounds like the calibration is still ok. Cheers Michael

    Hello great videos by the way. I am having a issue with transmitter reconnecting. I have only tried it in my garage so far and when i test the RTH mode for when i loose signal ( When i turn the TX off) and then turn the TX back on the RX never reconnects again ( correct that, it did reconnect once after about a minute or two of being stuck in RTH) but hasn't since. I've tried flicking all the switches in every possible configuration and turning TX off and back on again in each switch position. but nothing. Everything seems to work fine when i have signal all modes seem to work fine and will engage and disengage but not when i turn the TX off and on again

      So the problem is with my receiver. I took out a Frsky X8R reciever (i had in a quad that is very patiently being brought back from the grave from drop from 400 ft) and tried it with my Turanis Plus TX and everything worked perfectly. I must have a purchased a faulty tactic receiver and am sending it back. But i think i will just keep this receiver in this plane and use my Turanis Plus instead. It will be a far better set up anyway and save the tactic setup for a park flyer setup at some point. Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for making the video on setting up the Turanis with this also BIG help

    First great video second I just now purchased from your ebay store. I didnt realise it only has a 1 wire Aileronconnection. I dont know how that works when they run off two channels. I am using the flysky th9x which I think is the same as your control so dont know how you have yours set up to run off one channel. If you can let me know how that works that would be great. I have just yesterday switched to a EZUhf TX an RX but it just runs using the flysky. Also does it failsafe to return home on loss of control signal?
    Any hlp with above would be great hope Aus post does get it here over night.
    Cheers Mate

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  7 років тому

      G'day Angus, yes there is only one channel for the aileron. You need to get yourself a y-lead to join the two connections from each aileron together.
      As for the failsafe, you will need to make sure that your receiver is set up to fail into the correct position to engage the RTH. In this video I have a FrSky module in the back of my Turnigy 9X. The FrSky receiver has capability to set what each channel does if you lose connection to the transmitter.
      It looks like the ExUHF has a similar feature as the FrSky receiver. There should be a button on the receiver that allows you to set the position of the switches (put the switch into RTH mode) in the transmitter and then push the button to save them to the receiver. Then if the plane goes out of range, the receiver will remember the position of the switches and return to home or within range.
      I hope that helps Cheers Michael

      Cheers mate. I.ve ordered mine from your ebay store.
      Now I'm new to fixed wing after getting sick of drones, still like to fly them now and then but planes look like so much more fun.
      It seems you may have the th9x and I am buggered if I can work the mixing out properly. If you do have this controller would I be able to throw some questions your way? If you don't, O well I'll have to keep trying. I have got the EZUHF attached to controller so can use the TH9x failsafe as its a little harder setting the ezuhf for external devices so Im told. And have watched the 3 channel switch setup will do that in prep for arrival of flight controller.
      Thanks again the flight controller looks great.

    G'day Mike, got the unit installed in my mates Bixler. Pretty easy set-up. Just need to test it now. Hopefully tomorrow!

      RCWASPOVISION G'day Jase, that is right, no rudder. Should be a fantastic day for testing tomorrow. I put my ASW28 up for the first time today. And to my surprise when I flicked the sabiliser on it started to slowly spiral towards the ground! Flicked off and tried a few more times, but same result. Landed and had another look at the direction of the gains on the unit and sure enough, I had them backwards! Unbelievable, but no harm done. Landed, fixed back up. So please, make sure you take off in manual mode, get some height and then test the unit! Cheers Michael

      MAD RC I managed to get a flight in today with the flight controller installed. Ground test showed RTH wasn't giving extreme aileron turn. I pushed the "set" button and then it worked. (Is this something you have to do everytime you plug in the battery Mike?) I then tested it in the air by going out 100m then switched to RTH. It started to turn then come back and proceeded to do a figure 8 around my standing position. Impressive! I then tested stabilization and it worked well! All-in-all a great little device. My only drama was after testing, I was coming in to land between some trees and lost perspective. Spent the afternoon with a very long stick trying to get the plane it out of a tree. lol! Eventually got it down. All good! :)

    • @xxMADxMICKxx
      @xxMADxMICKxx 9 років тому

      RCWASPOVISION OH No! Trees are the natural enemy of the RC pilot. But it sounds like a successful test of the BGL, if not a completely successful flight. With regard to the home position, you only need to do that once at any new location. It will remember the last Home position. But if in doubt, it is only a click of the button until you get the solid red light, to be sure.

      Hi +bill hiscock , that is the same as mine.
      RTH is at the top, OFF is in the middle and Stabilise/AutoLevel is at the bottom. Nothing wrong there.
      If you wanted to reconfigure the output of the switch, I think you'd need to change the output values for the switch. This would require you to do a change to the mix I believe, to set a value for each switch position of SC switch.

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  5 років тому

      Hi, this is not correct. There is no need for the transmitter or receiver to 'have support for GPS'. The only thing that you may wish to consider is that your receiver has the ability to program the failsafe option, so you can ensure the RTH is engaged if you fly our of radio range. This sort of feature is available on most radios. Some radios only failsafe to the last input if the plane flies too far away.

And most importantly, I did not want to have to add extra switching or circuitry (which may have created a point of failure) on top of the stock T1000FC. I did follow the theard on RCGroups that discussed the 'T1000FC Manual Mode with GPS' by lasersbee and I even looked into getting the MMB, but there was no way to import that to Australia. Some include On Screen Display, some allow you to program weigh points, some have dual aileron control and they all cost more (some a lot more) than the BGL-6G-AP.
      This unit is designed to be the best possible price for a RTH stabiliser. That means that there are a few features that are not included, like the a pre set altitude for the RTH.

      RCWASPOVISION Yeah good one. I replaced a T1000FC (which did work well) with this and just being able to switch it off is awesome!

      Michael Downie Yeah, there is a work-a-round to switch the stab off on the T1000 but who can be bothered. lol! I just want a hassle free unit with RTH and smaller the better. ;)

      RCWASPOVISION Yeah, I have seen that from the guy on RC Groups, with the board, but you are right a bit of a hassle. And I just realised I was replying with the wrong account. (not that it matters). Cheers Michael

    hi mad rc , I am having trouble, when I turn on my rtl my plane just turns upside down and goes side to side very quickly , and in stabilization mode it does a loop and heads strait down, can you help?

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  7 років тому

      G'day Charles, sounds like you may have the elevator channel reversed. You can test this on the bench by switching the plane into auto level (stabilise) mode and lift the nose. The elevator should go down to try and level the plane again. You can change the direction with the elevator gain dial. But if you do, double check this does not affect the inputs from your controller, you may need to revers the channel in your controller too. I hope that helps. Cheers Michael

      MAD RC that was it , it works, except my failsafe, I checked it today by turning off my tx and motor kicked in and flew straight into an electrical Tower should my battery , gopro , and opterra was in pieces.

      @madrc6667  7 років тому

      Oh Charles. That is not good news. I assume that the RTH mode was not set/engaged on your failsafe. I hope some of your gear can be repaired

    I installed but aileron stick will not work. Ailerons will stabilize but not stick control. I'm scratching my head over this one. Thanks for good video.

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому

      Hi +notsuretwo I think that it may be the selected mode is RTH. Couple of things to check; make sure if you have the GPS plugged in that you have a clear view of the sky. The GPS need to connect to satellites. You can tell that it is connected when the blue light is flashing. If the blue light is flashing and the red light on the unit is flashing too, check that the channel you have attached the control line to has been assigned correctly to the switch on your transmitter.
      Otherwise send me an email with more details of the behaviour and I can try to determine what it going on with the install. Cheers Michael

      Mad RC Ok, thanks for the reply. I have everything working all lights and modes and other channels work. I plugged the elevator out servo lead into the aileron out plug and i could control ailerons with the elevator control, but the aileron servo lead will not operate elevator. I pulled the 'aileron out' servo lead and plugged it directly into the receiver and it works fine so i am getting aileron signal from the radio. I guess there is an internal problem with the bigaole. I ordered two more of the bigaole stabilizers so i will try them when is receive them in the mail. Thanks for the advice.

      +notsuretwo I got the new bigaole's the 3ga and the 3ga-v2 (no return to home). They work fine but stabilizing throws are small even after turning up gain screws. I tried with no expo and with expo added to mix. Do low rates affect the throw of the stabilization mode? Thanks

      +notsuretwo sorry I do not know that much about those models. I have a sample of the v2 now so I'll be learning about it soon. I will have another video out in the next couple of weeks. Cheers Michael

    Arrrrrgggg dont suppose you have or can get spare leads? I fear mine where thrown out when the plastic shopping bag they were in got mistaken for rubbish....By the way its going in a wing so only 3 channel. cheers

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  7 років тому

      Hi Angus, Sorry, I don't have spare leads. But you can just use a standard servo lead and pull two of the pins out of the plug to use in the each of the other channels. In fact, you can get the plastic servo ends from Hobbyking for a few dollars - hobbyking.com/en_us/jst-sh-servo-plug-set-jr-gold-plated-10pairs-set.html and add the plugs to the other pins. Cheers Michael

      Mate never guess it....... I found them! YOU LITTLE RIPPER! The were in a mess of a FPVRaptor 2 that I hadn't stripped to rebuild. Thought Id just check one last time then thought Ill strip it now and down the end of the tail wedged at the end where the leads. Thank the gods. Cheers for quick reply.
      I hope this time I can use it last time plane went up plane turned plane came down. The raptor has an issue with wing stalls if not enough speed and it was my first plane so I've gone got a Opterra just as big but a little more forgiving.

      Excellent news that they turned up! Good luck with the Opterra, such a nice looking plane. Be sure to keep the gains low when testing for the first time. Cheers Michael

    My red LED doesnt Locks On in Calibration Mode...

    • @madrc6667
      @madrc6667  8 років тому

      G'day +Chris ImItReal the red light will blink when it has power. The only change is when you press and hold the SET button and the red led will go solid after about 3 seconds. The blue light on the GPS antenna will blink when it has connected to satellites. Check my other video for a few more tips on the set-up - ua-cam.com/video/J2lfk1IJCuQ/v-deo.html Cheers Michael

      G'day Murat, this unit does not include an OSD. However, I am hopeful that Bigaole will release a new updated unit that will. If they do, I will include on my eBay store and make some new videos too.
