    AMD R5 340x never misses for a dirt cheap GPU, can emulate all the way up to PS2 era, and play PC games from the 2000s and below with ease

    Just upgraded from mini pc's and a steam deck to a full blown gaming desktop build, complete with 1440p ultrawide... but I'll never forget my roots of squeezing as many frames as possible out of a little block of angry hot sand. Excited to see more content!

    Think about Quadro P400, P620 or P1000. P400 is probably slightly better, more power efficient for sure and you can get one by about the same price. P1000 is a monster ;) (almost), it is more expensive but quite powerful and still very small and power efficient. Also those cards have "true" DirectX 12.1.

      Thanks for the tip. Originally I wanted to buy an Nvidia GT 1030 for this video, which as far as I know is between the P400 and P620. The problem with the 1030 was that Pascal doesn't run well on Linux with DirectX 12 games (VKD3D). However, I didn't test a single DirectX 12 game 😅

      Correct P400 is cut version of 1030, you can check wiki on Quadro cards, all is there about specs. Indeed Linux does not care much about DX, but P400 has also Vulcan 1.3 🙂. Not sure how much difference it makes, but still... Probably better compatibility. I have 2 P1000 and 2 P400 (one is on its way to me, should arrive today 😁). For both P400 I paid about $10. As for P1000, one I use on Linux, works great, and one on windows. They still have great driver support. On P1000 with 4790 CPU you can run Diablo 4 no problem as well as many other more demanding titles. On a plus side of those cards is also the fact that they originally were sold as low and high profile. So if you get both brackets it will fit absolutely anything. They also have great codec options and miniDPs as output, so proper, modern outputs, not mezozoic DVI 🤣. You can check my videos, did a few on those cards.

      Thanks for the detailed information. At least here in Germany the P400 is the exact same price as the GT 1030. I think the problem is due to the hardware design of the Pascal GPUs VKD3D does perform very poor. But DXVK (Games up to DX 11) perform very well.
      I will keep an eye on the P1000 and buy one when they become cheap enough.
      Thanks! :)

      @@LowBudgetLinuxGaming Sure, no problem, hope it is helpful. I did run some Steam games on Linux using Proton, but probably not DX 12 games... I need to test how those would perform. Good point, did not know this is the case.

    how do you run the games on linux? Do these run natively or emulated?

    • @LowBudgetLinuxGaming
      @LowBudgetLinuxGaming  Місяць тому +4

      Half-Life 2 and Portal 2 run natively on Linux. The other games run with the help of Proton. Proton is a compatibility layer that allows Windows games to run on Linux. In Steam it's all preconfigured and you just have to activate it in the GUI.

    How did you install the drivers? I ask because I have a similar graph and I don't know how to do it.

      You have to enable the AMDGPU driver for Southern Islands (SI) GPUs. Check 2.2 in the AMDGPU Arch Wiki for further information wiki.archlinux.org/title/AMDGPU How to do it depends a bit if your distribution uses GRUB or Systemd boot. If you tell me which distro you use, I can give you further instructions :)

    How did you manage to buy that GPU for 10 euros? I would like to do the same upgrade.

      At least where I live (Germany) it is not difficult to find these cards for very little money. They used to be in decommissioned office computers and are now being sold very cheaply on eBay or local classifieds, for example.

      Good point, I should have addressed this this in the video.
      Only a low profile single slot graphics card without an additional power connection fits in this PC. Unfortunately, this type of graphics card is significantly more expensive.
      Originally I wanted to buy a low profile GT 1030 for 30$ but unfortunately the Pascal architecture does not run well on Linux when using VKD3D.
