  • The Disney Shills are trying to rewrite history again. This time it's the Star Wars Prequels.
Use my link ridge.com/robothead to get up to 30% off through April 1st. Video sponsored by Ridge.
Jake Lloyd who played Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace has had a pretty rough time over the years. His mother recently came out and talked about his mental health issues. And what she said really upset the Disney shills who hate the truth. Join me in going down memory lane and reliving 1999!

I was 25 when Episode 1 came out. Everyone thought before the film that it was going to be unbelievably amazing. The marketing had been genius. When we got to see the film, there was some disappointment for sure… it was … well … passable. Any negativity was mostly on Jar Jar ( the character and Lucas for how he wrote him ) and the very simple ( yet confusing ) storyline. Among SW fans, there was a MUCH larger backlash on “midiclorians” than anything about Jake Lloyd. He was fine and just had like one stupid line at the end that people eye rolled at. But still people had faith in the new films… there wasn’t outrage or toxic fandom. After episode 2 and 3 There was passionate annoyance at Lucas’ lazy writing but not even one 10th as bad as Episode 8. And definitely not on episode 1…. Everyone still had faith it was going to get better as the story went on. That guy is a moron.
Edit: thinking more about this I don’t think Jake Lloyd even made the top 10 ep1 complaints… I heard far more often ( in no particular order):
    - Jar Jar was idiotic
-Midichlorians ruins the spiritual nature of the force
    - Anakin making C3P0 is stupid
    - the stupid Roger Roger robots
    - the blockade makes no sense in space
    - the space station was blown up too easily
    - why kill Darth Maul so quickly?
    - really? Immaculate conception??
    - is Anakin old enough? How TF are they going to reconcile the age difference? Why didn’t they make him more like Luke’s age?
    - why is Lucas writing this story for younger audience? The OG fans would prefer it to have more gravitas like ESB
That’s the stuff I can recall. More people were still upset about “Han shoots first” even.
Hate for Jake Lloyd just wasn’t a thing.
( and with all the “complaints” above I still watched TPM 3 times in the theater… and so did everyone else. this whole brutal behavior thing is just made up )

I was born in '04, which means I wasn't even a concept when The Phantom Menace came out. I was, however, old enough for the Lego Star Wars games and for the Clone Wars TV series, not to mention my family had all six Star Wars films on DVD. In other words, not only was Star Wars a big part of my childhood, but the Prequels especially. Even today, I still hold them in high regard. I enjoyed the Phantom Menace, Revenge of the Sith is my favorite of all of them, and I'm probably the only fool on Earth who thinks Attack of the Clones is a good film. And you know what? That's okay. Others can find all three to be shit, and while I'll definitely try and defend the films and act in their favor, I'm not going to try and tear down other people or rewrite history just to make my favorite films look good. Honestly I am really annoyed that Disney just decided that the only stuff made for star wars that is canon are the 6 movies and the clone wars cartoon making all the comics and games noncanonical, part of what I really liked about The Force Unleashed when I played it was that it connected perfectly into episode IV without making any changes that would have a drastic effect overall, then Disney shows up and makes a show where Obi Wan leaves the child he’s supposed to protect to go on a random adventure with Leia because I guess they finally decided to make a show that doesn’t take place in the desert

He didn’t say they “never,” or the “don’t,” something definitive, he said they “usually don’t” meaning that there are articles which do connect (support) to the argument and OP isn’t being dishonest. I’m sure if you look into it, most articles will support OP, and then shill articles won’t, but that’s because they used jacob’s tactics to do it.

I thought Jar Jar Binks was designed to appeal to children more stupid than any I had ever met, and both Darth Maul and the pod racing scene felt like gratuitous toy advertisements. In those days, this intense disappointment was expressed internally as sadness over the loss of potential for an expansion of a wonderful film trilogy and the corruption of George Lucas's artistic integrity. There was no need to express this disappointment beyond a commitment to never pay to see a Star Wars film again, but if vitriol were to be spat, it would have been towards Lucas, not the actors playing his characters.

Yeah, the prequels got a lot of hate (that still exists today really and there's plenty of evidence of it), but what I hate is this notion that critique is inherently "toxic" and we somehow ruin actors lives. It's all so overdramatic. Lucas never attacked the fans, unlike many modern creators when the fans largely reject their film/show. And fans debated the prequels, for sure, on forums (the social media equivalent back then), but it was nothing like what it has become today.

If TikTok came out in the early 90s and you were to post a dance video or a Zoolander-esque thirst trap to the app, the following day at school, you would be ridiculed mercilessly by the entire school. It would’ve been so bad that you’d likely carry a complex with you for the rest of your life

Watch Memphis Bell before it or The Tuskegee Airmen right before this and it'll feel right at home. You can't go from Saving Private Ryan to Red Tails. It's just not the same kind of war movie.

Saw Star Wars in a cinema in '77. Heres my 2 cents - Saw Phantom first midnight opening screening in Oz. Yes, there was a bit of backlash by a subset of OG fans that were not happy. Some cited Jar-Jar, many didnt like nor understand all the political stuff. Trade federation, taxes, embargoes etc. We did indeed have many film websites and forums that were equivalent to 'social media'. That said, I don't believe the detractors were 'toxic' by any stretch. They believed they had genuine concerns and voiced those concerns. As an older person, I actually look back and the prequels and enjoy them. Many people were indeed put off by the prequels not being a 'rising hero' story, but the complete opposite - a fall from grace. The prequels are a cautionary tale. -see The People VS George Lucas documentary for a good rundown on the era of release and some of its reception.
